Lighthouse Country Commons Reviews (%countItem)

I am a handicapped, disabled 57 year old woman. I have a spinal compression fracture, partial paralysis in both legs and I also have no muscle mass in my knees after a femur fracture, which now forces me to be wheelchair bound or walker bound to get outside. After I a fractured my femur in March of 2015; I am now only able to get outside or inside the apartment via the “ramp” that was built for the unit when I moved in this particular unit. The ramp is not good quality and causes splinters, but the main most dangerous concern is that the beginning of the ramp on the bottom, the wood plank is raised from the ground, which makes it a unsafe and very difficult for me to go over with my walker.

Prior to summer of 2019, I was told by management (Maya) that they’re working on renovating new units to specifically accommodate people with my condition and that they would reach out to us at the end of summer so we can select a unit.

Summer came and went and nobody called or offered a unit. I called the office myself and Maya the manager stated “oh we forgot about you, we have this one unit left which you can take a look at.”

I looked at the unit and I did not like that the ramp was so long with turns and shared with several other units, after declining that unit, the manager stated to me “SINCE YOU DECLINED TO TAKE THIS OTHER UNIT, WE ARE NOT REPLACING YOUR CURRENT RAMP EVEN IF YOU FALL AND INJURE YOURSELF AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO”

Not only do I feel humiliated that I was yelled at in such tone, put down and was left helpless, I am in fear of leaving my apartment thinking that I may fall on that ramp!

There have been talks of how this office takes bribes and closes their eyes on a lot of things that other tenants do. I still to this day have not gotten an approval to get a stationary compact washer and dryer installed in my unit while other neighbors have it. I am very traumatized and disrespected.

Lighthouse Country Commons Response • Jan 21, 2020

Thursday, January 16, 2020 To Whom It May Concern, This communication is regarding a letter we received on January 8' 21020 dated January 6, 2020 informing us a received complaint about our business. The letter mentioned that there have been previous attempts to contact our organization, but no response was received.

For the record, after carefully reviewing all our records and the resident file of Unit ***, we would like to report that no prior communication from Revdex.com nor the resident was ever received by our office regarding complaint in question. As stated in the email that was written on January 9,2020 to ***, the issues mentioned in the complained were reviewed and inspected. The complaint mentions that the resident is: 1. Unhappy with the current ramp that leads to her unit, 2. Lack of a washer/dryer appliance in the unit, and 3. Transfer to an ADA compliant unit. 1. Upon original completion and installation of the ramp in question, Bensalem Township inspectors were at the property and approved all ramps installed to be up to code and ordinances. We realize that wear and tear happen especially to external structures and uncontrollable weather destruction. That is why we do our best to keep up with maintenance and inspect outside premises on regular basis. To resolve the ramp issue, we have replaced parts of the existing ramp. Enclosed in this communication are documents that show the progress of work done specifically for Unit *** and an invoice for the completed work. 2. The statement about the washer/dryer and the desired outcome, unfortunately is not correct. There have been cases and reasonable accommodations approvals were provided to residents, allowing a portable washer with a sink hook up to be used and stored inside the unit. These appliances were purchased by residents and do not require any modification to our plumbing system. These accommodations were allowed due to a submission of a written request and completed form from a medical provider explaining the necessity and urgency for the accommodation. Our community does not offer any units with mentioned appliances, nor an ability to install a hook up for a stationary one. Country Commons offers a large newly renovated laundry room with 21 washers and 21 dryers attached to the management office on premises, operating hours are from 8AM to 9PM. 3. Upon recent renovation we have modified 18 units to be ADA compliant, due to an extensive waiting list, and proper procedure order, *** was offered one of the newly renovated ADA compliant units that was available at the time her turn came to transfer. Upon the walk threw of a new unit resident stated that the unit was smaller in size and the ramp was not to her liking, therefore declining to transfer. To conclude, we strongly urge our residents to contact the office with any issues and always strive to provide solutions to satisfy their needs. Also, as with any important matters, all requests should be done in writing to our office. Currently we have nothing in our resident file reflecting any of the issues stated in this complaint were brought to our attention. We welcome *** to schedule an appointment in order to discuss this matter further with her if needed.

Sincerely, Polena K.Community Manager

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the response. If no reason is received your complaint will be closed as Answered]

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:First of all I would like to mention, after the office received this complaint, one of the employees as named in the complaint Maya, called and yelled about how dare I make such claims, my blood pressure went up. How does one yell at a disabled person ?The claims for washers and dryers; we know a unit or two that has washer and dryer.Aside from that, I was promised to view SEVERAL UNITS ADA, but after months of waiting, MAYA informed me that they forgot about me and only had one unit left to show. How do you forget about a client in need who was promised a selection of units. The ramp that is so called for wheelchairs or walkers, my wheels get stuck on bottom and top; making it a hazard if I fall. Maya states that since I rejected that one unit, nobody will help me with this ramp even if I fall and become injured. However, even my caseworker for my waiver program agreed that the ramp is not up to standard for a disabled individual who is wheelchair or walker bound. We have tolerated being yelled at, discriminated against and treated as waste; There are so many hazardous things in this development and since I fear walking in and out of my apartment I took measures of filing complaints here and states attorney.
