Lighthouse Counseling has been in business for over yearsWe service San Bernardino County Children Family Services, Probation / Parole and Medi-Cal clients
In this unique industry, there are many clients coming in to see a therapist
in hopes of getting a professional recommendation for them to receive Social Security benefitsMany of these clients have been denied and are searching for other ways to qualify for Social Security benefits
The client we are discussing came in to our office in hopes of getting a letter, addressed to Social Security, stating that she should be entitled to Social Security benefits
This client was seen by an LMFT, which is a licensed marriage and family therapist; not a psychologist or doctorThe therapist she seen has been in the industry for over years and is familiar with Social Security denials
Though our LMFT's are willing to write such recommendation letters, it is only after he or she has had time to work with the client for an extended amount of timeAfter the initial intake, this client was seen in our office a total of four timesWith a decision of such magnitude, there would need to be further sessions attended for our LMFT to make a professional recommendation to Social Security
As far as client records are concerned, there are specific HIPAA laws that protect the clients as well as the therapistsWe are able to offer specific documents to the Court upon subpoenaWhat some clients do not understand that there may also be information, in their records, that work against their Social Security denial cases
All of the above was discussed with the client several times on the phone

I've had two major
problems with my old therapist Dr***
Firstly, with all of the visits I've had with Dr
***, he only took notes once with my first
intakeAlso, he only ever really talked about
himselfI know about his son, his religion,
his family, the fact he can put his leg over his
head and the fact that he was fired in the
past because he said he was working with a
German man whom didn't like him because
he was a seekHe also said they pinned him
having a threesome with some of his clients
These are things I had to listen to in my
sessions that didn't help me get better at all
There are things I wanted to discuss with Dr
*** that I never got to because I couldn't
get a word in edgewise and I didn't feel
comfortable anywaysMy very first session
he said he thought I deserved disability to I
didn't see any problem with mailing him a
mental health residual form that I need filled
out for my disability lawyerIt's a very in
depth form and it doesn't state with certainty
that the doctor thinks I should get disability
or not, it's more of an evaluation of the time
he's spent with me
*** in his office had said he would mail it
back to me within a few daysAfter having to
call back times within a month and a half, I
finally hear back that they aren't going to fill
it out after all because they think i'm just
trying to use the letter for disability
Regardless, *** from the Access unit of
my insurance has stated I have the right to
my files and at the very least, a summary
Lighthouse didn't want to give me the
summary though because they have nothing
to right down, the doctor probably doesn't
remember me because he only ever spoke
about himself* is now forciing them to
write me this summary and I'm anxious to
see what will be on itIf anything on the form
is false, *** told me to contact her again
as at this point, this doctor is not doing what
he's supposed to be doing, his job
They've made this process of getting my
records so very *** me and for what?
Because they don't want to do their job?
