This email is a follow up to our phone conversation on Monday April 18,
As I stated in our conversation *** * *** had contacted our firm to prepare a married filing separate individual income tax return for tax year 2014. Before that return was filed we
were asked to prepare a married filing joint tax return for *** * and *** * *** for the tax year 2014. We prepared the tax return and provided both *** * *** and *** * *** a separate copy of the tax return to be filed along with a separate e-file authorization form to each individual. Both parties approved the filing of the tax return and authorized us to electronically file the tax return by separately providing us with a signed and dated e-file authorization form. We electronically filed their return. Their income tax return showed they would receive an income tax refund.
The two parties divorced in 2015. The IRS does not split refund checks. They issue the refund check in the name of both taxpayers listed on the income tax return and mail it to the address shown on the income tax return. The refund check is issued in the name of both taxpayers and requires both of their signatures to deposit or cash
In summary we were hired to prepare a married filing joint individual income tax return for tax year for *** * and *** * *** We prepared the return. Both *** * *** and *** * *** separately provided signed and dated e-file authorization forms for their joint income tax return and we filed the tax return electronically on their behalf. We provided the service we were hired to provide and believe we should be paid for our service
