This letter is in response to Complaint ID ***The initial report of bedbugs in the student's room in *** Hall was brought to the university's attention late (close to midnight) on August and the resident was relocated to a temporary room, also in *** Hall, until the room could be
treated, which did happen on August by a local pest control companyUnderstanding the student's discomfort in a room where evidence of bedbugs were found, the Assistant Dean of Students granted the student's request to relocate to *** Hall, another residential facility, on August 30.On October 18, the Assistant Dean of Students received an email reporting bedbugs in their *** Hall room, after that room had been recently treated for bedbugsIn response to that email, the Assistant Dean of Students expressed that the pest control company would be called again to reexamine the room and reminded the resident that all materials that could carry bedbugs would need to be left behind to be treatedIn a follemail after the resident responded they would seek help elsewhere because they had no faith in the pest control company, the Assistant Dean of Students agreed to move the resident to another facility, once the room in *** Hall had been examinedIn the response, the Assistant Dean of Students wrote that in the event of the actual occurrence of bedbugs, relocating without treatment or even determining if bedbugs were indeed the issue, would only exacerbate the situation by carrying them to the new spaceOn October 19, the Assistant Dean of Students asked staff to relocate the resident to *** HallThe resident was contacted again on October for their phone number after no additional response was received from the October thread of communicationThe student eventually made contact and was relocated to *** Hall.The university takes very seriously any complaint regarding bedbugs and contacts the pest control company to examine and treat roomsIt is our belief that the university has responded to this resident's concern by contacting the pest company with each complaint and relocating the resident twiceThe university strives to create a safe, healthy and comfortable living environment for all residents, and to our knowledge, we have done our due diligence in working to provide that for this student
