Linden Farm, Inc. Reviews (1)

Review: The Day Camp is not licensed by the Dept of Health as advertised. The owner, [redacted], endangered my child and broke the law by transporting my 6 yr. old daughter without written permission (as required by law) and without a car seat to [redacted] National Historic Site (@ 4 miles). When questioned about the car seat, she stated “what could I have done”. She never apologized for endangering my child, hung up on my husband when he was trying to discuss this situation, and kicked us out of camp for the next week (which we obejcted and stay long enough to find alternative care). We left as soon as we were able to find a solution. She also down played the carseat incident by saying the according to her attorney it was only a misdemeanor that was subject to a $50 fine. We later found out from my daughter that there were 3 other children in the back seat. None of the other 3 children in the car had their seat belts on. She never address the lack of seat belts.

Additional false advertising included, did not provide the daily horseback riding lessons and horse games.Desired Settlement: Ideally I would like a letter of apology, and a period in which the owner could not run her day camp, a notation in the Revdex.com website site about my complaint and a refund for 2 days (the day we took our daughter out of the camp and the day she did not provide horseback riding lessons).

However, I know that not all of this is possible. I would really like to just ensure that the owner is no longer able to endanger any other children.

Re: Your File No [redacted]

Dear Madam,

While it is always distressing when a client is unhappy, this complaint has errors of fact that we believe nullify the complaint. However, we are advised that we are not required to correct the complaint, nor assist the complainant in any way, simply to address the complaint as presented.

Background: The child has been a pupil at our riding academy since February 2012 until June 30 of this year. Her parents enrolled her in two of our summer camps during the summer of 2012. She attended every day and indeed was left with us for several hours after camp ended at 2:30. During at least eight days of those camps, the child was not picked up until 5 or 6 p.m.. It thus beggars belief that the parents would again sign up their child for exactly the same camps in 2013 if there were any issues. The child was enrolled for ten days of camp in 2012: July 11 and 12 of Camp I, July 15-19 of Camp II and July 22-24 of Camp III,

To the Review: 1. We do not claim to be licensed by the Maryland Dept, of Health; indeed this is not the licensing body for summer camps. As you can see from our Camp Description,

(Attachment 1) we are neither licensed nor certified by the department of health, however, since we are on well water we are required to have our water tested no more than three months before the camp begins, and the pool water is tested each week not only for chemical levels, but for bacterial count. We have complied with these requirements by the Dept, of Health.

The complainants have already contacted the Summer Camp Licensing body in [redacted]; they have contacted us and after review have decided that we will not meet the requirements to be licensed for 2014 thus intend to take no further action.

2. The complainant states that we did not have written permission to transport his child. I have attached a copy of the Liability Release (Attachment 2) that clearly specifies such

permission in the high-lighted paragraph. This Release provides not only a release of liability, but also indemnity in case of any accident or issue. This is the same Release signed by the parent of every camper.

3. The date of the alleged offence occurred on Friday, July 12,2013 according to the complaint. We can attest absolutely that no camper or counselor left the camp on that date except in company of their parents. Affidavits can be provided to that effect if required. The child was picked up by her father at around 2:30 and there was no conversation regarding any issues or problems at that time. On Sunday, July 14, we were closed for business and would not have answered the phone. Therefore, there was not, nor could there have been any communication on that day. There were neither phone messages nor e-mail from the child’s parents on that date either.

4. False advertising re: camp activities: The attached Camp Description (Attachment 1.) Sets forth a list of the activities from which we assign the each day’s program.

It is not possible for each day to include all of the activities listed. We might do a trail ride one day, a lesson the next, a mock horse show on another, or have a driving instead of a riding lesson. However, each and every activity revolves around horses, their uses and other aspects of hippography.

Conclusion: We believe that much of this complaint isn’t about camp, but because we regretfully had to advise the child’s father that we were unable to provide after care to the extent we had done in the prior year. The child did indeed not attend the last day she was registered for camp; Wednesday, July 24th. Her father informed me Tuesday evening that they had several doctor’s appointments for his daughter and since we could not offer after care, there was no point in bringing her just for a couple of hours. He also informed me that the child would not be returning in September to resume her riding lessons. Since this was also our decision, there was no issue.

If you require additional information, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Consumer

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because the business does not address any of the real concerns or offer any sollution.

Generally, the business failed to address Violation of numerous laws-- operating an unlisenced cummer camp, operating an unliscenced daycare and the response is fullof misstatement of the facts.

Please see attached my letter addressing the entire reason and supporting documentation (3 documents total)

Re; Your File No[redacted] 2nd submission

Dear Madam,

1. The prior submission has already addressed the issue of an unlicensed summer camp. To wit: The licensing bureau does not offer licenses retroactively; they have determined that our camps do not fit the criteria requiring licensing for 2014. As requested by the complainant in their last submission, we have contacted the summer camp licensing board and they have required no corrective action as stated above.

2. We do not, have not and have no intention of running a daycare. It is not possible to address violation of a law that does not apply. WE ARE NOT and NEVER HAVE BEEN A DAY CARE. Under Title 13 A Subtitle 14, Chapter 01, Family Day Care, “Youth Camps’4 are specifically excluded from consideration under these rules.

3. Regarding the alleged misstatements in our previous submission, since they are not enumerated we cannot address them..

Sincerely,

Consumer
