I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
Mr***:We appreciate that you don’t want to leave us in a bad spot and we also want to come to a reasonable solution that we both can agree onAs we notified you weeks ago though, we have already committed to another company to do the repair and we are requesting that you reimburse us for part of the cost of the repairWe are willing to pay the difference in cost between the modified bitumen membrane vsshingles and request that you reimburse us for the remainder of the repair costPlease let us know if this is agreeable to you.Sincerely,*** ***
Regards,
*** ***

Obviously Mr*** thinks he is correct on this issue, and I believe that the *** caused this problemIf rubber is required I would ask that Mr*** call his insurance company and request that they pay the difference that they paid for the shingle installation vs rubber roofing. If insurance will pay the difference I will absorb the installation costI truly believe that this is not our fault, having said this I am willing to come to some sort of reasonable agreement that will satisfy Mr*** and Cost Saver. I do not want to leave anyone in a bad spotIf we can come to an agreement I will take care of this installation next week. With Regard, Mike ***

Cost Saver was contacted by Mr *** in for roofing estimates due to storm damage on his propertiesAfter meeting with Mr*** and finding out the circumstances we did contract to do the roofsAll of the roof jobs were paid for by his insurance companyMr*** did inform us that
he could not pay any money out of his pocket, so Cost Saver did issue him a credit for his deductiblePer Mr *** he wanted to do a new roof exactly like we were taking off that had been there for plus yearsHe wanted no changes and no upchargesThe insurance company inspected the roof prior to our installation and agreed to reshingle exactly like existing roofAll went well and everybody was happyOver years later I received a call that there was a problem with roof sagging in one spot. I did go to inspect and did find a dip in the roofAfter closer inspection I observed new wood had recently been installed in the same area as the dip, I took photos and called Mr*** and explained to him exactly why there was a dipThe *** wedged the new wood in just below the dip and lifted up the plywood sheetingI did agree to do the repair for a discount (1400.00) due to the the wood the *** installed incorrectlyMr*** would not hear of it and continued to interrupt me and refusing to meet me on the job site and show him why the problem happenedI did not ever use profanity when speaking with Mr***. As far as all the other roofers that looked at the job recently, Per Mr ***, he did not let them know that a *** had worked on this same area recently, so whithout the full details I can understand why they are siding with the customerI have always stood behind our work and will continue to do so, however, in this circumstance I am 100% sure that the *** caused this problem and have photos to prove my point

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Mr. [redacted]: You have left way too many questions unanswered – either you or your attorney needs to answer these questions: 1.           Over 6 weeks ago, you said you were going to call the other roofers whose phone numbers we gave you in order to clarify what caused our roof damage – our [redacted] vs. your roof installation. Why haven’t you called them? Do you “not want to hear the facts” they have to tell you? 2.           Why have you not responded to the other roofers’ claims that your crew made the “valley cut” too low, which contributed to our roof damage? 3.           You say “I can not do any more for Mr. [redacted] than I have offered.” Since 4 other contractors tell us not to do what you have offered (namely put shingles back on a flat roof), we have asked you to give us your price to install the right roofing. Why have you at least not done that? That’s not even asking for anything for “free” – it’s simply asking for you to do the job like everyone else says it should be done. 4.           You say “I did try to help solve the problem by doing the repairs caused by his [redacted] at my cost.” In your previous message, you wrote that you quoted us $1400 to do the repair and put shingles back on the roof – how is that at your cost? That is the same amount that other roofers with whom we aren’t under warranty would charge (though none of them recommend doing the repair that way because they say we would end up with the same problem again!) 5.           What about the false statements you made that we “wanted to do a new roof exactly like we were taking off” and that I “wanted no changes and no upcharges”? We never said these things to you – why did you say this? 6.           What about Matt telling us in April 2015 that our roof “checked out” and that the moisture we were seeing was due to condensation? That moisture was in the exact same area as our current leak and was present before the [redacted] repaired the hole. If the person named Matt that inspected our roof in April 2015 was Matt Andrews, we have been told that he is not an experienced roofer, but works primarily with gutters and siding. Regardless of who you sent to inspect our roof in April 2015 though, that person missed the roof leak; and, as a result, we have more damage than we would have had if he would have caught the leak in 2015.   With regards to my son asking why you didn’t fix the hole in the gutter board when the roof was installed, he asked about it because he thought it was odd how fixated you were on the gutter board repair, how you said we should have called you to fix the hole instead of the [redacted]; yet neither your crew in 2012 nor Matt in 2015 made any mention of the hole. Regarding wanting something done for “free,” the issue at hand is a warranty repair. If we thought our [redacted] caused the damage, we would pay for the repair ourselves. Based on what FOUR other roofers tell us though, the damage was not caused by our [redacted], but was a result of your company’s improper roof installation. Despite YOUR efforts to “continuously dodge the issue” and “not want to hear the facts,” we insist on holding you accountable for the warranty that your company advertised when the roofs were installed. Mr. [redacted], you are the one that is “trying to find any reason not to pay for his mistake.” Regarding your comment that “I have never left a problem unsolved to my customers satisfaction,” this hyperbole can easily be disproved by looking up online reviews. But more importantly, as we’ve said before, “actions speak louder than words” - if you really do stand by your work as much as you talk about it, you would at the least pick up the phone and call the other contractors like you said you would. We are still requesting that you work with us to come up with a fair resolution to this issue. Because you are the company that installed our roof, because 4 other roofers say that your improper roof installation is to blame for our current damage, because we paid you over $30,000 for roof installations in 2012, and because we expect you to stand by the quality of your work as well as your advertised warranty, we insist that you take some responsibility for the roof damage – it is only fair. If you continue to avoid answering the important questions we have raised and are unwilling to work with us on coming up with a fair solution, your responses to our Revdex.com complaint will remain grossly inadequate. Sincerely, [redacted]
Regards,
[redacted]

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. There are several false statements and omissions in Cost Saver’s message. I will respond to what the owner wrote in sequence:   “Cost Saver was contacted by Mr [redacted] in 2012 for roofing estimates due to storm damage on his 3 properties. After meeting with Mr. [redacted] and finding out the circumstances we did contract to do the 3 roofs. All of the roof jobs were paid for by his insurance company. Mr. [redacted] did inform us that he could not pay any money out of his pocket, so Cost Saver did issue him a credit for his deductible. Per Mr [redacted] he wanted to do a new roof exactly like we were taking off that had been there for 20 plus years. He wanted no changes and no upcharges.” I never told this company that I “could not pay any money out of [my] pocket.” The project manager in 2012 (who no longer works for Cost Saver) offered the “credit” as a discount for me because we had given him so much business (approximately $50,000 for 4 roof repairs in the same year) – this credit was offered solely and voluntarily by the roofer as a gesture of thanks for our business. The statements that I “wanted to do a new roof exactly like we were taking off” and that I “wanted no changes and no upcharges” are false. I never said these things and I would have been more than willing to pay a surcharge for the right roof if that had been recommended to me, but Cost Saver did not recommend anything other than shingles. I can’t help but think that the owner is making these things up because I never even dealt with him directly. The project manager, who is the only person we were in contact with when purchasing the roofs and with whom we have been in contact recently, will attest that I never said these things. “The insurance company inspected the roof prior to our installation and agreed to reshingle exactly like existing roof.” The insurance company is not the roofing expert. It is the roofer’s responsibility, not theirs, to make recommendations as to the most appropriate roof to install, even if it would involve a surcharge that the insurance company would not cover. Cost Saver never made any recommendation against putting shingles over our carport, but it was their responsibility to do so. Before we told them anything about what had been going on other than that we needed an estimate for a roof repair, the first thing 2 of the 4 other roofers told us when they first arrived at the job site and called us was that “shingles never should have been put on that roof.” The remaining 2 roofers basically said the same thing and all 4 of the other roofers would not have recommended shingles even if an insurance company said they would only pay for shingles. So, why did Cost Saver never mention anything about the risk of putting shingles on a flat roof to us in 2012?   “All went well and everybody was happy. Over 4 years later I received a call that there was a problem with roof sagging in one spot.” He left out the fact that we called Cost Saver over one year prior to this due to a suspected roof leak at the exact same spot of our current damage – the roofer they sent out told us that there was no leak and that the moisture we were seeing on the ceiling of the carport was due to “condensation.”   “I did go to inspect and did find a dip in the roof. After closer inspection I observed new wood had recently been installed in the same area as the dip, I took photos and called Mr. [redacted] and explained to him exactly why there was a dip. The [redacted] wedged the new wood in just below the dip and lifted up the plywood sheeting.” This is in complete contradiction with what 4 other roofers have told us – namely, that the dip in the roof is due to the wrong roof having been installed in combination with an inappropriate valley cut and that the wood the [redacted] placed had nothing to do with the damage.   “I did agree to do the repair for a discount (1400.00) due to the the wood the [redacted] installed incorrectly.” Cost Saver was the only one of five roofers that wanted to put shingles back on the carport. Why was Cost Saver the only one that didn’t recommend replacing the entire carport roof with rubber or a modified bitumen membrane? And, why, even after we specifically asked him to, has the owner of Cost Saver not sent us a quote for doing the repair the way all of the other roofers recommend?   “Mr. [redacted] would not hear of it and continued to interrupt me and refusing to meet me on the job site and show him why the problem happened.” My son, who was the one that spoke to Mr. [redacted], had very clear reasons why we did not want to accept his offer; the most important one being that Mr. [redacted] wanted to replace our carport roof with shingles when every other roofer told us that is a bad idea. As far as “refusing to meet me on the job site,” I don’t know how he comes up with this stuff. First of all, he never asked me to. Second of all, I currently live 2000 miles away.   “I did not ever use profanity when speaking with Mr. [redacted].” He may not consider yelling “bullsh**” then slamming the phone on the hook profanity, but I do. That is what he did after my son told him that the 4 other contractors contradicted what he had been telling us.   “As far as all the other roofers that looked at the job recently, Per Mr [redacted], he did not let them know that a [redacted] had worked on this same area recently, so whithout the full details I can understand why they are siding with the customer.” The other roofers did know what our [redacted] did because we told each and every one of them what the [redacted] did by talking to them on the phone when they were at the job site. They all looked at the piece of wood our [redacted] placed at the gutter board and all of them told us that that is not what caused the damage, but that improper roof installation was what caused it. As far as “siding with the customer,” first of all, why would they have any reason to “side” with me – they have no skin in the game. Mr. [redacted] is the only one that serves to benefit by “taking a side.” Second of all, why did all 4 of them say the exact same thing, in contradiction to what Mr. [redacted] told us. Third of all, before he yelled at my son and slammed the phone on him, Mr. [redacted] asked my son to give him the phone numbers of the other roofers. My son sent those phone numbers by email 3 weeks ago and also sent follow-up emails asking if Mr. [redacted] had gotten in touch with them. As of September 2, the other roofers had not heard from Mr. [redacted]. Why has he not called them like he said he was going to?   “I have always stood behind our work and will continue to do so . . .” Everything Mr. [redacted] is currently doing is a contradiction to this statement. If I can address the owner directly with one sentence it would be: “Actions speak louder than words.” If he stands behind his company’s work and means what he says when he offers customers a 10-year warranty, then we urge him to please do so and not continue to make excuses that 4 other professional roofers disagree with.   “. . . however, in this circumstance I am 100% sure that the [redacted] caused this problem and have photos to prove my point.” I have written estimates and letters from 4 other contractors who saw everything in his photos and still completely contradict what he is saying. How can he possibly stand his ground when he didn’t even call the other contractors after my son gave him their phone numbers?   In summary, Cost Saver’s message was a grossly inadequate response. It has many false statements. The owner has not attempted to call the other contractors, whose contact information we gave him. He continues to avoid addressing the fact that the 4 other contractors do not recommend putting shingles back on the carport roof. He has not addressed the fact that the other contractors have told us the “valley cuts” were made too low, which is part of the reason the roof ended up leaking. He is the only roofer that recommended keeping shingles over our carport when he gave his repair quote. And, despite our asking for it, he has not given us a revised quote to repair our roof and replace the shingles over the carport with another material, like the 4 other roofers have strongly recommended. It has become abundantly clear to us that the owner is trying his best to avoid honoring the warranty his company advertised when they installed our roofs. Regards, [redacted]

I regards to Mr. [redacted]s response, he said he has spoken to my previous project manager and that person left on very bad terms. What he told Mr. [redacted], if in fact he did say those things, is absolutely not true.  Matt is a roofer and has done many jobs for me.  As I have stated from the beginning I have never left a problem unsolved to my customers satisfaction. In this case Mr. [redacted] had a handy man do work in the same area below the roof and jacked up the underlayment (plywood) that caused this problem and was very obvious when I inspected this issue. When I informed Mr. [redacted] what I had found he replyied that we should have fixed this hole behind the gutter board while we were there 4 years ago and this would not have happened. I told him that we were not hired to do work that was not on the roof and if the hole was there 4 years ago we could not have even seen it and that was not our responsibility. He did not want to hear the facts, just wanted something done for "FREE"  It is a shame that customers use the Revdex.com to hold good companies hostage for problems that was not caused by the company. Mr. [redacted] has continuously dodged the issue regarding his [redacted]s repair that caused this problem. I did try to help solve the problem by doing the repairs caused by his [redacted] at my cost, at that point Mr. [redacted] is trying to find any reason not to pay for his mistake. I can not do any more for Mr. [redacted] than I have offered. For the first time in 20 years doing business I feel I have no option but to turn this matter over to my attorney.  SINCERELY, [redacted]COST SAVER [redacted]REMEMBER WE PAY FOR REFERRALS

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response.  If you wish, you may update it before sending it.  If you and the business have reached an agreement and compliance is set for a future date, we trust the business will comply.  Please contact us after that time if the matter is not resolved as agreed and we will review the complaint and proceed accordingly.]
Mr. [redacted]:We appreciate your agreement to what we see as a fair resolution to this issue. The contractor we’re using has estimated the repair using a modified bitumen membrane will be $2000, however that does not include repair of the decking, the cost of which can only be determined after the shingles are removed. Also, we are still waiting on the other contractor to give us an estimate to replace the carport roof shingles so that we can calculate the cost difference. We will let you know once we have this additional information. The repair should be completed by next week, weather permitting.Regards,[redacted]

Mr. [redacted], I am willing to do that, please let me know what that number will be. Thank you [redacted]
