Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
Please review my original letter which specifically addressed the code violation that this insulation causedThis was confirmed with the email that I copied into my original letter from the Ohio department of building standards. I maintain the same position as in my first letterThis cost dollars to remove and bring into compliance with the code prior to my home sale, which has not changed since the work was done
Regards,
*** ***

Business responded. In response to complaint ***: Creating separate attics is a practice when changing the thermal boundary of a home that contains knee walls Our suggestion was to provide ventilation you choose not to at the time of insulating your attics Both Dominion Good cents, and C-town are reputable companies You choose not to do the job completely creating your problems, this is no fault of C-town construction or good centsWere ever the customer is receiving his information on insulation is incorrect, dense packing slopes without baffling is a proper practice and is accepted by the department of energy when ventilation is providedYOU CHOSE NOT TO DO THAT AT THAT TIMEWe never suggested to this customer not to ventilate The bottom line is that the customer was provided proper information on the risks of not venting the knee walls, the decision was made by the customer to not complete the job in its entirety

In defense to open blow insulation:C-Town construction following in line with H.W.A.P and state of Ohio department of energy standards (at the time of 2010) allowed open blow cellulose insulation over knob and tube wiring. The standards at the time show in text:SectionS-type fuses 302-3.1d"If
knob and tube wiring is in use, install proper sized S-type fuses in boxes that contain fuses before installing any insulation."Your homes panel box had already been swapped out to the proper breaker style to allow this action.Your home had a R-insulation value covering the knob and tube wiring prior to C-Town arriving on the property We added an additional R-worth of cellulose insulation H.W.A.P standards have been applied to tens of thousands of homes in the state of Ohio over the last couple of decades, many of which also had knob and tube wiring It has only been the last couple of years where the standards on insulating knob and tube wiring has changed This has gone from channeling to not insulating which are the standards now, however in this was the accepted practice. Our personal suggestion is to hire a certified electrician to inspect your panel box and wiring to give his stamp of approval, and turn this over to the home inspector or the home purchaser

Business responded to complaint In response to complaint ***: The customer wanted insulation to lower energy cost and stop ice damming, a problem that he was having for a whileIce damming occurs when insulation is poor, allowing heat to escape from the home and melt the snow on top of
the roofThe solution of the problem is to add proper insulation to the knee wall, attic and sidewalls to ensure a proper thermal boundary to the homeVentilation is always needed in unconditioned areas of a home, this particular customer choose to not receive ventilation in the knee walls as well as insulation in the side wallsThe customer also wanted roofing and siding estimates from our company and decided that at that time is when we would install gable vents for the knee wallsThis particular job was inspected, and a rebate was given from the dominion good cents programDominion good cents rebates are only given after a job is inspected and done correctlyC-Town is guilty of not returning phone calls or emails to this customerThis course of action was due to the fact that the customer did not want the job to be completed entirely at that particular time and was informed that he was going to have more issues until the sidewall insulation and ventilation in knee walls is completedWe decided this customer was not a good fit for our company do to the fact that he chose to not finish the job properlyC-Town has had thousands of customers over the last years, many good cents customers, and state of Ohio house warming program, and we have never had an issue such as this
