Initial Business Response /* (1000, 14, 2015/08/21) */
On July 10, 2015, I towed two vehicles to [redacted] at L&M for repair for [redacted]. The first vehicle was a Jeep Cherokee which I loaded on the rollback bed. this vehicle would not run and was leaking oil on the bed of the tow truck. The...

second, was a Ford Escort, which I loaded on the wheel lift and towed behind the tow truck with the front (drive wheels) off of the ground. The Ford Escort would not run or start as well.
On the charges, we are contracted to L&M at the rates of $65.00 for the hook, $3.00 per mile, and $25.00 for the roll-back fee if applicable. I charged L&M $65 X2 (for the double tow), and $3.00 x2 per mile ( for the double tow) which came out to be $15.00 x2 for 5 miles. I did NOT charge the $25.00 roll back fee for the Jeep Cherokee, although I did have the right to do so. That total came out to $160.00, and we gave [redacted] a 20% discount for the double tow, which was $32.00. [redacted]'s bill came out to $128.00. Legally, I am able to charge $81.25 for the hook, $3.75 per mile, and $30.00 for the roll-back fee, per state law. There was absolutely no overcharge on the bill.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 16, 2015/08/26) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This guy is lying. The jeep was not leaking oil when he put it on his truck. I couldn't very well miss a leak that big. If it had been, I would have asked him to fix it. I'm not trying to get something for nothing. And also, my complaint is not against the tow truck company. It's against this supposed mechanic. He told me from the beginning this tow truck guy was a friend of his. So at the end of the day seeing how he does things, the tow fee is the least of my worries.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 18, 2015/09/04) */
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 20, 2015/09/12) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This statement is absurd.
He never mentioned anything about 85.00, rollback fee, or a markup on anything. This is the first I've heard of any of this.
The deal about the tow was not what he said it would be over the phone.
I never told him I was a state employee because I'm not.
He never called me once to authorize any work, parts, anything. Not even once. And he knows he didn't. I don't know what kind of person can sit there and fix his mind to lie like this.
No one on the planet would agree to pay 168.00 for a starter on a 94 ford tempo. No one.
When I got there to pick up the tempo, the first thing I asked about was the jeep. I followed him down the stairs where the jeep was, and it was already broken down. The column, and the dash were off, and the hood was up. Pieces of the of the column were in the front seat. He told me he hadn't figured out what was wrong with it yet, but he was making calls, and he knew people.
When I paid for the tempo he asked me to sign what I thought was a receipt, later I realized it's also an authorization form. Unfortunately, this aides his lies. He did turn the fuel filter right side up and snap it back into place. It took him all of fifteen seconds. He makes it sound like we did a duet together, afterwards. I just said thanks. Not to mention the miss is still there. I've met some characters in my life but this guy...he's a piece of work.
As far as the story about credit vs. debit, he did want cash for the tow, but when he saw it wasn't going to happen, he hurried up and changed his tune. This conversation also happened on the phone, in the beginning, not in person.
279.00 for some part? Never heard of it. He never called me.
Being rude to him and his daughter? I was never rude to either of them. She hung up on me. I did call him, hours after he said he was going to call me. She said he'd call me back. Then I called right back to ask her to tell him, to call me and let me know how much all this was going to cost before he did anything. That's when she got sick of me and hung up. If asking you for an estimate, fifty times, after you've already shown me that you have a habit of not doing that is rude, then, I'm sorry.
I did call him about a week later concerning the battery. But I wasn't rude or insulting. And I never said "What the [redacted], so and so". Another straight up lie. He has a million of them. I just asked him if he had any trouble starting it. Was their anything wrong at all. He said no.
I did grill him but I wasn't mean about it. Then h started up again. He said I might have caused it myself, when I took the battery cable off in the beginning. So I asked him, "Then shouldn't you have experienced the trouble, also? I did that happened before it was towed to you." This is when he unraveled a bit. He started accusing me of blaming him. I assured him I'm not trying to blame you, I'm just trying to figure out what happened, when it may have started, and what I need to do fix it. That's it.
Their was no rant, I was totally calm. I didn't have a reason to be angry at this point. I knew exactly what kind of person I was dealing with by now. I'm not angry now. I'm sorry to have ever been involved with all this nonsense. This guy knows what he did, and did not do. He knows his statement is full of lies.
What I can't understand is how do you live your life like this?
As far as the question of whether or not I accept his proposed resolution? I can't answer that. I chose "no" because it wouldn't let me submit my response without choosing one or the other. I went with "no". But, he really doesn't propose one.
