Hired a locksmith to program keys to my Prius 2011. Prior to locksmith, car worked fine. After locksmith, car needed over $2,000 worth of repairs. When I lost my key to my 2011 Toyota Prius, I looked online for a reputable locksmith that had specific experiences working on automobiles. Lock N Roll, Raleigh Mobile Locksmith claimed specific experience on their website stating "We specialize in automotive locksmithing giving customers "an alternative option" instead of taking it to the dealer." I called [redacted] at "Lock N Roll," Raleigh Mobile Locksmith after I ordered replacement keys to be programmed to my Toyota Prius. [redacted] came to my house in January, 2016 and tried to program my keys, but could not with the tools he had brought. He was unsure that the keys would be programmable, because they were used, but promised to return two days later with another tool he believed would work better. I paid him a nominal fee in cash for coming out, and agreed to pay the rest upon his return. When [redacted] returned on January 8th and attempted again to program the keys he told me my battery had died, because he couldn't get the dash board to light up with anything other than this flashing picture of a lock. We agreed that it was not the battery, because the power locks, lights, and horn still functioned. He then told me that he wasn't sure how to get the dashboard to come back on, that he was out of his area of knowledge, and that I would need to have it towed to the dealer. I got my car towed and when the dealership ran diagnostics they informed me that when [redacted] attempted to reprogram the computer and wipe the old keys from the memory, he wiped the entire ECU (electronic control unit) as well as another computer and it would need to be replaced before anything else could be done. The dealership had no doubt that this was due to the mishandling of the locksmith. I contacted [redacted] immediately after the diagnostics were run and the dealership was sure the ECU would need to be replaced. Though the system was responsive when he arrived and non-responsive after he worked on car, he refused to take responsibility for the damage that his actions caused to my vehicle. His exact words were "this will be a case of your word against mine." The car was fully functional before [redacted] worked on the vehicle (prior to keys being lost) and unresponsive after he worked on the vehicle. Despite the claim of specialization on his website he admitted to being "out of his area of knowledge" after he damaged the ECU. I have called and left messages, but they are unresponsive and not open to a dialogue about repairing the damage caused.I have had the dealership repair/replace the components damaged by Lock N Roll, Raleigh Mobile Locksmith. I am seeking restitution for repair cost. The total cost for the repairs was $2733.73. Desired SettlementI am seeking restitution of the funds that were spent on the repairs and replacement parts for my vehicle.
