Long Beach Marine Institute

I put two out of three payments in to them to pay for a week long field trip to Catalina, along with multiple other parents at my child's school, New World Montessori School. As the final payment was due, right after Covid 19 hit, I tried to get information on what how they were going to deal with Covid 19 in terms of the trip which was for the week starting May 18

Even with multiple calls and emails from the school, there was either no response or pretend responses with no follow up. My personal email to their director, *** was returned, I think they cancelled that email due to all the angry parents calling. Also, they never put out any information that they were canceling the trip even though they were not allowed to by Governor order. Instead they wanted people to personally cancel so they would not have to return the money.

Essentially they took everyone's money, didn't fulfill their end of the bargain and didn't respond to any questions. I am personally out over *** and everyone else planning to go on this trip is out more that that. And that's just our school. You'd have to ask them how many other schools they've ripped off.

My child attends New World Montessori, a small school in Los Angeles. Our field trip to the Long Beach Marine Institute (LBMI) was cancelled the week of May 18th, however LBMI refused to state who, when, why, and how the trip was cancelled. When our families were considering our options for the week of May 18th, LBMI also refused to respond and explain the safety and health guidelines they would implement to protect our children and chaperones. Although we do not know the details of the cancellation, LBMI offered a new contract, but the terms are vague and unreasonable. We still do not know what safety measures will be implemented to protect our children and chaperones, and LBMI has not committed to a reschedule date. Even if LBMI offered a reschedule date for next school year, this is not a possibility for many of our children because some have progressed to middle schools and others will be attending different elementary schools next year. We are all aware of the unfortunate circumstance that the pandemic has created, however LBMI has placed our families in a box that we cannot get out of even with the best intentions. My child has faced a lot of disappointments due to the pandemic, but this one he cannot make peace with and he should not have to!
