Review: were should I begin. There customer service is awful. There billing system is horrible bills are mailed out late! let me tell you my story. My parents have health insurance thru LIA in March I had advised them that my dad will be getting medicare as of April [redacted] which means only mom will be on the policy. When never got a bill in April, called and was advised that billing is being adjusted due to change on May [redacted] called again and advised still have not received any bills! April and May billed faxed to me and they showed adjustments the May bill shows a credit of -$53.27 fine no payment is due right? kept receiving bills june to oct and they were taken our payments. Now again no bill for Nov. my called Nov [redacted] and was advised that her policy is terminated eff 9/*/13??? no letters stating balance due, billing does not show there is a prior balance and termination letter received! spoke with one rep who was horribly rude spoke with supervisor who still not understand what the problem and could not answer any of my questions so in order to get reinstated I sent in 2 payments anyway because I did not want my mom paying all of the bills she had because she did not know she did not have insurance! with no termination letter! no bills showing prior balance! and letters stating billing is late! so if my mom did not call to find out were her bill was this would never had come about and she would have still had insurance no questions asked!Desired Settlement: why should I pay for a billing error made on there end? Its not my fault that they have a faulty horrible billing system! they are taking peoples money with no explanation. (had to send $1456.10 in order to reinstate chekc#[redacted])

Response:
Dear [redacted],
I am in receipt of above complaint which was originally sent to [redacted] at Long Island Association – [redacted]. As you may know the LIA Health Alliance was sold last October. I am the director of the Enrollment Processing Center and my name is [redacted].
I am not sure if this is a timing issue or not but it was my assumption that I had resolved this issue with [redacted] the insured’s daughter on 11/*/2013. There was a billing misunderstanding due to a change in premium rate and the member missed a premium payment. When our term letter went out it is a form letter which references the process to reinstate coverage including payment of a $100 reinstatement fee. When I spoke with [redacted] I told her we would waive that $100 fee, the requirement for certified funds and the request for three months premium. I told her we would accept 2 months premium which was past due and she could have until the end of the grace period, 11/**/2013, to pay the November premium. We did not wait for receipt of the payment and went ahead and had the coverage reinstated at the carrier which we requested on 11/*/2013.
The insurance carrier reinstated the insured’s insurance benefit with no break in coverage. If any claims were received within that time period they will be reconsidered and paid according to the plan benefits if resubmitted by a provider.
Please let me know if you need any other information in order to close out this issue.
Thank you,
Enrollment Processing Center
