Review: This doctor and practice are a scam and nothing more. My son had an ATV accident and was taken to the ER at Southampton Hospital. After being treated by the attending physician who put the cast on my son's broken leg, Dr. Y* from Long Island Bone & Joint was the "specialist on call". He came down and spoke with us for 10 minutes, told us that he reviewed the films and that the break was a clean break and should heal on its on and he was gone. And now we are fighting a bill received for... ready... $4,882. Yes you read that correctly. $4,882. for a 10 minute consultation from an "on-call physician". They submitted this bill to my insurance company as a "surgical procedure" that he never performed as the attending physician applied the cast. My insurance company had already approved and paid the hospital for the attending physicians work of putting on his cast and all of the other ER procedures done. So we have two bills for a cast, one from the attending physician for roughly $900 for total ER services including the cast, which was approved and paid for by my insurance company. And this second "double-billing" for a "surgical procedure" that was never performed. This doctor did nothing but review the films and speak with us for 10 minutes and we are fighting a bill that could effect my credit of $4,882. It is insane. And this is not the only doctor that does this at Southampton Hospitals ER. The entire place is wired to rip off patients who are in need of emergency care.

We took our son here to check a possible fracture in his foot and we brought xRays we'd had done elsewhere. This was out of network for us so we asked the cost of an appointment in advance and were told "couple of hundred dollars". A cast was put on his foot and we were billed $3,500 (that is not a typo). When we questioned this, it was reduced to $1,400. My father-in-law is a doctor and in speaking with his orthopedic friends were told $500-600 would be high. Our insurance company says $350. We will never go to this doctor again obviously.

The billing office is unorganized, therefore, over a year and a half since the office visit, I am still getting curiously unexplained bills for co-pays. First a bill for $20, which I paid, then a year later, a bill for $25, now, 1 & 1/2 years later, another bill for $20.

My insurance company had to spend a lot of time sorting it all out.Desired Settlement: I should not be responsible to pay this fraudulent bill so I would like it immediately resolved so it does not effect my credit. And some kind of statement in writing so they do not do what they did to the other patient listed above who is now receiving bills that were already paid, 1-2 years after service was rendered. Please help so they stop hurting people who need emergency care. This is not right. Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you need me to provide any documentation, the original and correct bill from the hospital that was approved and paid, and this "specialists" private bill for services that were never rendered other than a 10 minute consultation because he was on call that day, please advise. Thank you.
