I don't really know where to start this agonising and horrific true story of conducting business with this solar panel company-LONG ISLAND POWER SOLUTION. I contacted the company to explore about a possibility for getting solar panels. They sent their agent/sales rep at my house, named Mike Haines who came and showed me the break down, cost, guaranteed State and Fed refund, terms and conditions and the lay out for 16 panels that were to be installed on my roof. Caution to all readers and potential customers who will be reading my complaint: when they say "IT IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, CONSIDER IT IS" That's what this company does!
Soon, they sent an engineer to inspect my roof, which it passed, he said "the roof is in great condition". It was the month of August 2016 The day the technicians came to install the panels, I decided to be home and watch the process and also for the reason if they need me for something. It was summer in the month of early August. They started carrying the panels on to the roof from the left side of the house where the roof was lower in easy access due to low height, to the spots on right side of the roof where they were actually going to install the panels. I watched the process standing outside for a little while and then I went inside the house for few minutes when I heard a big "Bang/thump" sound which made the whole house shooked! My brother also lives in the same house and he was scared, he felt as the whole roof was going to be collapsed. I Immediately came out and asked the guys installing the panels as to what the heck had happened?! They looked at each other and then replied, "it's ok, a panel just slipped out of our hands while carrying but everything is ok" I was shocked and puzzled as to what else I should ask them or do but I trusted them and asked if they are sure that everything was ok and they reaffirmed yes! The biggest mistake I made at that time was that I did not climb the roof and inspect myself cause I did not want to intercept their work and basically took their word! After the whole installation was completed hours later they left. I even tipped them nicely. Now, months later during rainy season I noticed a small water mark on the ceiling of my Dining area, of course, as people usually do, I also ignored it and thought it will go away or dry up! Another few months passed and the spot started to get bigger! since it wasn't leaking yet, it did not catch my attention, and one day it rained very heavily and the ceiling was dripping but still lightly. It was now alarming. Next day when the weather was better, I climbed up the roof taking all the risk and danger, noticed that there was a dip on the portion of my flat roof at the exact spot where I had experienced the bang while the technicians were carrying the panels and had dropped it! The whole picture ran in front of my eyes and it did not take me much time to think and figure out as to what happened the other day when the panel dropped from their hands and why my ceiling is now leaking from the exact same spot! The fear now I had was that it was Rainy season and water has already made it through inside of the ceiling and it only gonna make it worse. I immediately called the solar company and Spoke to the manager named Brian, who was pleasant and appeared to be concerned and assured me that I don't need to worry and if it was the fault of the company, in this case their technicians, they will take care of the problem. I was very relieved to hear that, but the truth was to be very different! I was back and forth with Brian about taking care of the problem ASAP since it was almost raining every day! He said he will be sending the roofer to inspect the roof and will let me know the outcome. Meanwhile, the leak was getting bigger and bigger. Eventually, their roofer came and inspected the roof and did not say anything to me but reported to Brian. I called him again and he said sorry we can take the responsibility of your leak for two reasons, first, the leak is not in the area where the solar panels are installed, second, your tiles on the roof are not properly installed which caused the leak! I was shocked and very disappointed. I told him that its not true and I'm very disappointed, up on that he said ok, you can call your own roofer and let him give his report and we will honor that.I called an independent third party roofer, who established that a couple of shingle tiles and the plywood under the tiles were cracked due to falling of some very heavy object on the roof at that particular spot, which exactly correlated the incidence of dropping of heavy panel on the roof by the edge of the panel hitting the roof that damaged my roof. I gave Brian the phone number of the independent roofer to talk to him and he explained the damage, but still since this solar company has the reputation of not accepting the fault at any cost, they refused my claim. Meanwhile, due to rain everyday, all the internal ceiling, my furniture and my new rug all of them got badly damaged. this company left me completely stranded and did not care at all what I was going through! I ended up getting the roof fixed and paid $1750 out of my pocket. The Horrific experience and misery of mine did not stop here, it continues... I now started to have a leak on the area right where they had installed the panel, this is totally a new leak. I called the company several times, spoke to their agent Mike, who had sold me these panels, but to no avail. Every time I call them, they simply give me run around and false promises. The mayhem does not end here either, I filed my tax return of 2017 and received only half of the rebate that they had promised before selling the product, in writing. I called and complained about that to the agent Mike already anticipating a to what would be the outcome and I was right, he yet gave some more run around and false promises. Basically, company's after sale/installation service is rated "JUNK". Of course, They will answer your calls but would not do anything until you get tired and stop calling them and that's how they deal with your problems, you are basically on your own. ...AND ICING ON THE CAKE IS THAT MY ELECTRIC BILL RIGHT TWO YEARS AFTER THE INSTALLATION OF PANELS IS COMING MORE THAN WHAT IT USED TO BE BEFORE HAVING THE SOLAR PANELS! In all, I wasted about $18,400 of my own hard earned money down the drain plus all the aggravation they caused me.
I BEWARE EVERYONE WHO IS READING THIS COMPLAINT NOT TO FALL FOR THEM OR EVEN THINK ABOUT GETTING ANY SERVICE THROUGH THEM. SPREAD THE WORD TO ALL YOUR ACQUAINTANCE ABOUT THESE CROOKS. THIS IS PROBABLY THE WORSE SOLAR COMPANY OUT THERE. SAVE YOURSELF A MOUNTAIN OF PROBLEMS BY NOT DEALING WITH THEM. I have read numerous other customers complained about them. Please check the link above in my complaint. I have all the documented proofs, my tax return to show just half of the amount of rebate promised by this company, out of pocket expenses paid to fix the leaking roof, and wish I could upload on this site to prove my case.

Great Company! Long Island Power Solutions is the ONLY way to go solar as far as I'm concerned. No lease rip-offs (ownership program is the way to go!) and the staff is very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Like working with a trusted family member. 5 stars all the way!

Long Island Power Solutions installed our solar panels a little less than 5 years ago. We love our solar panels and working with LI Power Solutions was a stress-free joy! From start to finish, they informed us every step of the way. The job was done quickly and professionally. In the first year alone, we saved $2000 on our electric bill! I'm so glad we decided to get the solar panels and thrilled that we used LI Power Solutions. I highly recommend them!

Great company to deal with, straight forward no hidden agendas really care about their work and service.

Long Island Power Solutions is a great company to work with. Their office staff and crew are competent, courteous, efficient and work very neatly. I would highly recommend them!

We had our system installed last march and everything has been running wonderfully. We exceeded our expected output and there have been no issues at all. We had no issues with our installation. The panels look like what we thought they would look like and a year in we have yet to have any leaks or issues with the quality of their work.

[redacted] was wonderful to work with and we got our tax credits and rebates as discussed. Going solar really was a win-win. It helps the environment and it helps your wallet. What is there not to like? If you're on the fence, give [redacted] a call and at least let him explain to you all the benefits.

Review: Last year we had solar panels installed at our residence by this company. [redacted] hasn't once returned our phone calls and this is turning into a serious matter. Firstly they didn't install the panels in asthetically pleasing manner. After we complained they promised to come to resolve on several occasions but never came to do so. We finally gave up but now we have discovered a huge leak that extends across the whole roof in line with the panels- it is now causing out ceiling to warp. There are rust marks all along. We are also worried about potential health implications if this leads to mold and as we have four young children, we cannot afford to play games with this company any more. They must get this resolved as soon as possible.

Thank youDesired Settlement: Fix the leak in roof and all the other damages on the ceiling caused from the leak or provide full remuneration for us to get it fixed before the problem gets worse and we are dealing with mold and health implications

Response:

[redacted] called the salesman's cell phone. The phone number the office had on file was the summer home so the customer did not get our responses until a later time. Once the communication breakdown was cleared up, we moved quickly to rectify the problem. We hired a professional roofer to seal the leak, we reinstalled the solar and now are fixing the interior. Everything is being handled to the customer's satisfaction.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

In response to the message: [redacted]'s statements are false for the most part. We left numerous voice mails with all of our numbers with the solar panel company. They only responded after we filed the Revdex.com complaint. They were then quick to come out and remove the panels so we could have the work done to seel the leak. WE hired the roofer and paid for the completion of the work ($6550). We let the solar panel company know that it was finished, they then came out and put the panels back on the roof. They have not done anything to fix the inside damage or have contacted us about doing so. An initial estimate for fixing the damage is $5000 but want to check with another company. We also need to verify there has been no mold growing behind the sheet rock. Thank you.

Response:

We removed panels and reinstalled them after the roof was repaired at no charge to the customer. At this point our insurance companies are working on subrogation.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[redacted] finally sent an insurance agents contact information to our agent on August [redacted]. This is 4 months after we first contacted them and almost 3 months since our Revdex.com complaint. In [redacted] response, he says the claim is in subrogation. This is false. How could be in subrogation the same day he sends the email which coincidently in the same day he wrote the response. Given he has not been honest in any Revdex.com response so far, we will not be satisfied until we get through the insurance claim process and see if he is honest about his companies fault. Thank you for your help because I doubt we would ever of had a response from LIPA if it wasnt for Revdex.com.

Review: Recap of issue:

Got 15 panel solar system installed by Long Island Power Solutions in January 2014. Had to wait until May 2014 to have solar panel/net meter installed working and crediting me for energy. At time of installation I was specifically told that I would be getting real-time monitoring, the company and Enphase will know about potential problems with my system before I even do. I was also specifically told that because of my installation (no trees, steep roof), I do not need squirrel/critter guards. The system comes with 10 years parts & labor warranty, and 20 year parts warranty.

Feb **, 2015 - I sent company an email to ask you about why my system hasn't been producing energy since Jan [redacted], which I discovered after getting my electric bill

Feb [redacted] - I sent the history of my KWH usage to you to review as I had received a bill for 653 KWH, and I have never seen such usage in my life. Owner mentioned that monitoring should have been enabled from the start to catch these things, but had you have enabled it now.

Few Days Later - the issue is resolved with technician's visit and resetting the breaker

Mar [redacted] - I sent another email after leaving voicemails that the breaker is resetting every so often, without any notification/email about it. Only when I check the enphase website, I find out of solar system down

Another technical visit replaced the breaker, I change the FIOS modem box outlet to avoid any interference.

May - After more resets, another technical visit discover that the inverter was bad, the technician replaced it and company said they placed a warranty exchange with Enphase on it.

June - Company notifies me that more "investigative work" has found that the panel wiring is also gone bad, and all this is caused by squirrels, which is not covered under warranty. I do not understand how I am being told in June that in the middle of such a harsh winter, we had squirrels living on our roof in January. And that to what discovered after so many visits and inspections.

July ** - I waited for service lead to talk to owner about my situation, no response for five weeks. After more emails, I get response that a discounted estimate it being prepared to replace bad panel. Another panel/inverter has now stopped working.

August - By now it has been determined that 2 panels and 2 inverters have gone bad due to squirrel damage. The panels and inverters have been taken by the company. I have by now received several cost estimates by the company, with very different range of prices which do not make sense to me. I am told by company this is my cost (only charging for parts) and that I should let them know where I can find cheaper parts. I provide full list. This makes no difference.

September - I have requested that my damaged inverter and panels be returned, but they have not. I have requested that just the critter guard be installed to prevent further damage, but the price quoted is too high.Desired Settlement: At this point I would like my 2 panels and 2 inverters to be returned and critter guard installed on my roof without any additional cost. I have already incurred loss of time, resources, and money with 1 panel being out of service for EIGHT months and another panel being out of service for TWO months.

Response:

In response to the above complaint, we offer the following response: On 2/**/15, [redacted] contacted us regarding decreased production of his solar array and a problem with a tripping breaker. On 2/**/15, Joe M[redacted] responded asking about snow and ice covering panels, as that was the case with the vast majority of our customers from the end of December until almost April of this year. [redacted] responded they were not, so on 2/**/15, we sent a technician to his home. Access to the array itself was impeded by snow and ice, however, the technician did reset the breaker. On 3/**/15, [redacted] once again called reporting a problem. We once again sent a technician to his home, and once again reset the breaker. [redacted] called us again in May still reporting decreased production, which prompted us to call to Enphase technical support (case # [redacted]). Enphase reported that the inverter was bad, and we sent a technician out to replace it. Upon removing the non-functioning microinverter, it was discovered that squirrels had caused substantial damage to the wiring underneath the array, including the non-functioning inverter. Despite the fact that this type of damage is NOT covered under warranty, Long Island Power Solutions replaced the inverter free of charge. We also notified the homeowner that the decreased production was caused by squirrel damage and that this was not covered under warranty, although he could make a homeowner's insurance claim to cover the cost of repair. We gave the homeowner an estimate with the cost of repair including the installation of squirrel guards to prevent future damage. Lastly, we offered to credit the homeowner $185, which, after running production reports and seeing the decreased production due to the damage (180 watts), was an extremely generous offer (current [redacted] elec. rates are about .22/kwh.) I need to note that our estimate to repair the array and install the squirrel guards is for our cost. We are not making any money on this; we simply want to resolve this problem to the customer's satisfaction. However, [redacted] is not satisfied with the pricing and has attempted to negotiate it several times (emails attached). We have had technicians to his home multiple times, but until the squirrel issue is addressed, there isn't much we can do.We have been and are still trying to work with [redacted] in good faith to resolve this issue. It has never been about warranty, but rather, that [redacted] wants us to make the repairs at below cost, which we are unable to do. In the meantime, we have removed another inverter, which has squirrel damage, along with 2 panels that have been damaged, and it is likely that while all this is going on, the squirrels are continuing to cause more damage to the system, none of which is covered under warranty. Emails are attached for your reference. Please feel free to contact me should you have any additional questions regarding this matter. Best Regards,Julie E[redacted]Long Island Power Solutions[redacted]

Joe from LI Power Solutions came to my home for an analysis and quote. He was very informative and straight forward with all my options for solar. Unfortunately, a large tree on my property prevents me from getting the proper sun exposure so I didn't go through with it!
