Loos Custom Homes Reviews (1)

Review: We purchased a house from Loos Homes in September of 2009. About a year and a half later we noticed our shingles were flapping in the wind on one side of our house. We contacted Loos Homes immediately and were told they would come look at them. We were then told several other homes built the same time were having the same issues so it was obviously of problem with the shingles. They removed the shingles and sent them to the manufacturer. A short time later we were notified by the shingle company that the shingles were nailed incorrectly and was the builders responsibility. I contacted Loos Homes then and was told they would tar the shingles that were bad. I didn't hear back for a little while and when I did [redacted] Loos sent me an email saying they were no longer Loos Homes but now Loos Custom Homes and would not help us. Another employee contacted me and said he would honor the tar part and then would do no more for us. I felt that was okay because the manufacturer said that would be an okay solution. I told this man that more shingles were flapping and I wanted all of those to be tarred again and I wanted to be home when it was done. He assured me that would be fine. Well the roof repairs were done, however, I was not home because they sent me an e-mail and said they were coming in 2 hours but I was not home to get the e-mail so I didn't know they were coming. I assumed everything was fixed correctly until this winter when we lost many more shingles. These were the same shingles I said needed to be tarred. When I contacted Loos Custom Homes they said it wasn't there fault but faulty shingles. I gathered all shingles and said they were all nailed in the part that the shingles should not be nailed and therefor hung incorrectly and should be their fault. I explained I could bring all shingles and they could see this but they never responded. I did tell them I would contact the Revdex.com and they said they would give me the number. They didn't want to help in any other way. I am very disappointed. We had a roofer come and give us an estimate for fix but said the roof needs to be redone. This roof is 4 1/2 years old and was clearly hung wrong. The builder should fix it.Desired Settlement: We want a new roof before problems arise.

Response:

Dear Revdex.com,

In response to this complaint about some wind blow-off shingles/tabs, I have the following comments as to how Loos Homes, Inc. had performed repairs to this matter.

1. LHI had made blow off repairs a couple different times.

2. There had been severe storms with recorded winds in excess of the shingle manufacturer ratings.

3. The builder warranty period had expired 12 months from closing of the home. After that builder warranty period, the material manufacturer is the provider of such items.

4. Loos Homes, Inc. no longer exists.

For the above reasons, I'm confident that in this matter, LHI as the builder fulfilled its obligations in a good business matter.

Regards,

Response:

It specifically says the shingles were hung HIGH!!!! Your employee told me you would reseal the shingles that were not hung correctly! Those shingles were not repaired. Only half of the shingles that were flapping were resealed!!!! He told me the person you guys would have come fix the problem would make sure I was home when the repairs were done so I could verify that the flapping shingles were repaired. That was not done. These shingles became lose during normal winds!!!!! If the shingles that were flapping during my discussion with your employer were fixed appropriately we would not have shingles that are off our house now. I have the shingles that flew off and they were all nailed HIGH. I can show anyone those shingles. This is not hung in accordance with the way the manufacturer says they should be hung!!!!
