Lotts & Associates Reviews (1)

Review: Me and my wife had a survey done by this company. We called around and were given a price of around $600 by them which was cheaper than everyone else and we had heard only good things about them. The survey was done as needed but we received a bill for $1350. More than double what we were quoted. My wifes mom, whos land was the one that had to be surveyed, talked to them about the bill they said it was something we asked for that doubled the price. On the bill it states "Mark corners and lines as requested". We don't recall asking for this but if we did we should have been told that it would more than double the price. Not once were we told that the price would be double what we were originally priced. We were shocked when we got the bill and the only thing he said when we picked it up was "I know its higher then what I said but we had to do more than what we thought".Desired Settlement: The check is already in the mail in full. I would however appreciate it if they could take another look at the bill and possibly split the difference on the extra $600 that we were not told about until the bill was done.

Response:My company was hired to perform a division survey of 2.5 acres more or less and a verbal estimate of $600 plus the County of Augusta plat review fee of $100 was given to the wife of the person who filed the complaint. On October 29, 2013, my field crew met with the land owner (the mother-in-law of the person who filed the complaint, and started the survey. At this time, the land owner asked my crew why certain things were not done by a previous survey by another company. They responded that those items were not required and there would have been a charge for those extra services. After this conversation, the land owner requested that all of the property corners of the 12.047 Acres be marked, some property lines to be marked, and a survey plat that showed the entire property for her mortgage purposes to also be drawn up. All of these items were out of the realm of the original estimate, and at the request of the land owner, were done. When asked by the land owner why the bill different than the original estimate, she was told we would look at the bill and see why it was different. Upon review, the bill was broken down to show the extra charges for the services requested by the land owner. Upon review with my field crew, it was determined that all of the services provided (including how the property was to be divided) was performed at the request of the land owner and there was no discussion of who was paying the bill.

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. I am not satisfied with the fact that these jobs were done with no mention of how much money it would cost. When your surveyors told my mother in law that those things would be more than the original estimate I'm sure she wasn't thinking double the price. I understand if it was a couple hundred more but double the price is unacceptable without making anyone aware it would be that much of a difference!

Response:

Response: My crew surveyed 12 acres instead of only 2.5 acres as originally requested. The person who requested all of the work that was done was by the mother in law of the person who filed this complaint. The crew met him the first day out on the site, but never had any requests or direction from the person who filed the complaint.

Response:

Who requested the work has nothing to do with the fact that I, the person who is paying for this, was never told that the price would more than double. And I do know that you were aware I was paying for the survey so I should have been told before a $600 estimate turned into a $1300 bill.
