If you elect to eat at Lucy's Cantina Royale, they will request your credit card to "hold" before the server takes you order. They take your credit card and "place in index card box" with all customers' cards. They state their rationale is because they fear you will leave without paying. Then, you are permitted to order your food, eat and get your bill. Only AFTER you pay bill will they return the credit card. Your credit card is away from your possession throughout meal. How do you know they are not swiping info off your card for credit card fraud? How do you know they don't accidentally give the wrong card to the wrong customer? This is a really poor business practice.
Hello. I occasionally go to Lucy's Cantina Royale for lunch during the week. On August **, 2016 I went and sat at the bar. I placed my order for food and an iced tea, which totaled $13.10. I was expected to pay before receiving my food for some reason. And I was actually asked if I wanted to start a tab, perhaps because I was sitting at the bar even though I was not drinking alcohol since I was on my lunch break. Anyways, I said I was paying cash, and I proceeded to pay with a $10 bill, 2 $1 bills and 4 quarters and 1 dime, which were weighing down my purse. The bartender/waitress (named Melissa according to my receipt) refused to accept my change for my bill. She said they only accepted dollar bills. I have a big problem with this since money is money, and if they refuse to accept change then why are they charging in amounts that call for change. Do they refuse to provide the change owed a customer after paying also?
I have a big problem with a business not accepting my cash money. Since I had not eaten the food at that point I had not incurred a debt. But why are they allowed to not take money approved by the federal government in their day to day business ventures with the public? Especially in Manhattan.
