Lugnuts Automotive Reviews (3)

This customer had this truck towed in for no start. He told my service writer that he replace the ignition module and I believe one other part. He did say he suspected the distributor but he was for sure. We do charge 75 for diagnostics as most every automotive shop does charge some kind of fee....

After the diagnostics we did find the distributor was faulty and gave him a price on the phone. He agreed to the price and said to go ahead with the repairs. After the completed repair the truck did start and run. It was fixed. Not until after he picked up his truck I find a review on Yelp stating I doubled my part cost. I never mentioned that I double parts but I did say I do have a mark up on parts (as every business does) in order to stay in business. He had some prices for that part from 3 sources one being an internet website. I did mention he can get parts cheaper at a parts store rather through me but again how can I stay in business giving away parts for the same price I purchase them for? I told him my prices are very fair and to call three shops to see what they would charge for the same repairs. At this time I have not heard that he has done this so I did it and only called one shop. My invoice is attached as well as a quote from a competitor down the street from me. My question is (look as his review) that if he knew it was a distributor and knew that its easy to do why didn't he do it himself? Cause he ran out of time? doesn't it take more time to get a car towed to a shop and we have to put it in line as we are first come first serve so he then would have to wait at least a day??. My conclusion is he installed parts at his house and truck still did not start so he was guessing the distributor and then after we verified it he then wants the diagnostic money refunded as well the mark up on the part.

I am rejecting this response because:-1- Misrepresentation of sequence of  events: There are three major areas that can go wrong with this truck's ignition: fuel delivey, ignition system, and compression. I addressed the first by measuring fuel pressure at the injectors (pass), moved on ignition systems and found no command signal going into ignition coil to fire. Then going down the line, I replaced the ignition computer and tested - still no command to fire. Well, the ignition computer fires if the distributor asks it to. Well, there was no command from the distributor (voltage on the harness pin). Surely, the last thing to replace and check was the distributor. At this point, I ran out of time and handed the car to the shop (using my free towing service with AAA). They replaced the distributor - and VOILA - the car worked. But I GOT CHARGED for what would have been their work diagnosing! -2- They charged me double for what the part costs in stores and online. They charged $195 for a part that costs $90-100 in stores. Price screenshots attached.I firmly stand behind my demand for a refund of the $95 diagnostics fee and the $100 part cost difference.

I am rejecting this response because:- Initial agreement was over estimate only. The estimate need be adjusted for actual time spent at checkout. There was zero adjustment and consideration over diagnostic work I performed. They in fact opened the distributor (the failed part) and saw it was broken, immediately replacing it. - It is unfair to charge DOUBLE the cost of parts in store. They should instead adjust their labor costs or otherwise communicate to the customer that their part prices are severely marked up. - The business never communicated with me alternative means of procuring parts to them.
