M & D Paving Inc Reviews (6)

We needed to asphalt our moderately long driveway and parking pad for our garage and home. The area was relatively large as private driveways go, but smaller than most commercial jobs. We were working within a tight time frame and therefore concerned about signing up with a contractor and then getting bumped for jobs that were more lucrative for a contractor.
The process and relations with the contractor we selected, Vince D[redacted] went very well. We took bids in March and Contracted with M & D Paving in early April, 2016. We were very concerned about having the job started before the last two weeks in May and completed before June 1. Mr. D[redacted] accepted our addendum to the contract that stipulated the latest starting and completion date, subject only to extreme or persistent rainfall in our area. Mr. D[redacted] provided a detailed work/cost statement. He worked within those parameters to the end, even though we shifted the entire driveway to the right (without adding area), changed the depth of the drain at the apron between the driveway and the garages, and added cement rather than asphalt setting for the drain. His excavation subcontractor, Speedy, was also adaptable and willing to meet our needs. The scraping/paving crew, led by Vince, did an extraordinary job. They were knowledgeable, a good team, and polite. Surprisingly they finished in one day. Not only that, they laid down at least 1 inch more of asphalt thickness than was called for in the contract! Finally, as the crew was leaving they spread the remaining unused asphalt at the edge of our entry road where the asphalt pavement was broken or degraded---this was beyond the contract, not requested, not charged for, unexpected, but impressive! We do not write extremely positive reviews often, but took time to produce this one. We highly recommend M & D, Vince D[redacted], his Crew and grading Subcontractor for asphalt driveway installation.

+1

This company exceeded our expectations. From initial phone call to final work, everything was done professionally . We were given options that fit our budget and all the options were fully explained without pressure or BS. The work began as promised and Vince (owner) and his crew were fantastic. They were on-time, polite and friendly, worked together like clockwork and obviously took pride in their work. The finished driveway was right on budget and was better than we expected. We are delighted with the work and would definitely recommend M&D Paving.

M & D Paving are awesome! They did an outstanding job making/paving a new driveway for us. We have an 8000+sf driveway, so they took it in 3 days. They started the minute they showed up on Day 1. They arrived always on time and ready to go. They worked hard and did an awesome job. We are very pleased and would not hesitate to call them again. We will call them next year when it is time for the sealcoat. [redacted] and crew are very nice guys, good people. You won't be disappointed. Give them a call!

Review: M and D paving has been contacted by myself or my wife 6 times in the last 10 days and has yet to return our call. They paved our driveway last summer and gave us a signed contract that was signed by their company and my wife for a free SealCoat for driveway. They have yet to contact us in anyway.Desired Settlement: Complete the work that you wrote the contract for and signed with customer and company

This story might get lengthy but I will try to do the best I can to explain and keep it as professional as possible. We were contacted by the [redacted]'s to come out and bid their work on their driveway for paving. There was some discussion about the steep drop off at the rear of their driveway concerning the bank washing away. [redacted] said that as long as grass was planted and that it grew it should be fine and will stay put. [redacted] in no way said that he guaranteed that the mud will not wash away in a rain. We were awarded the bid to do their driveway. When we started the work on the driveway Mrs. [redacted]'s father was there supervising. He was very meticulous with the guys and wanted it done his way which I can understand he was protecting his daughters investment. When Mr [redacted] sells a driveway he obviously measures everything and marks down dimensions and paints the lines to what they were agreed to. [redacted] painted the lines before the asphalt was laid and her father didn't like the lines and [redacted] said that’s the way the [redacted] wanted it and he said absolutely not and changed the lines [redacted] had down. Which ended up where the [redacted]'s got a little bit more drive than discussed but it all worked out. We paved the driveway and were loading up the equipment and the father came over and stated nice job you guys work very well together. The [redacted] weren't home to settle up with so [redacted] stopped back I think a couple days later and Mrs [redacted] was yelling that their was a puddle in the drive and that the lines were off . [redacted] stated no big deal about the puddle when we are in the area we will come fix the puddle which was approximately one foot by one foot. As for the lines Mrs [redacted] yelled at [redacted] for changing the lines they agreed on and [redacted] stated that I'm sorry but your father wanted them this way. She stated that her deck that was installed was off slightly by a ¼ inch and she didn't pay them either. ( there is a sign there) [redacted] stated to go get her husband and he wouldn't come outside. [redacted] said he needed her to write him the check and she said she wouldn't until the puddle was fixed. [redacted] stated that he wasn't leaving without a check but she can hold 350.00 until we fixed the puddle. [redacted] said OK and gave her a contract that stated she paid 5000.00 and still owed the rest according to the original contract after the puddle was fixed with her signature. Keep in mind there were some torrential downpours during the time of this driveway installation that lasted months last year similarly to this year so could you imagine trying to plant grass when it rains like it has been. Which brings me to my next episode with the [redacted]'s. Keep in mind I wasn't in town when my crew paved their driveway so all I was doing was pulling in to fix a minuscule puddle and get my other 350 dollars owed to me. We pulled in and next thing you know my crew is getting blasted by her father and both Mr. and Mrs [redacted] concerning the bank of dirt that was washing away from the asphalt edge. I jumped out of the truck and ran over to see what all the commotion was about. Mrs. [redacted] was screaming that [redacted] told her that he guaranteed dirt wouldn't wash away from the hill side. I started laughing and stated Mrs [redacted] nobody can guarantee dirt wont wash away especially if there is no grass planted. She yelled back at me and said she planted it three time now. I stated, Mrs.[redacted] I'm sorry I understand how she felt its been a horrible rainy season and I planted a back yard three times also and that I am not a landscaper and only here to fix a little puddle. Her father stated that its been a horrible rainy season and they cant keep the dirt from washing away and that [redacted] guaranteed that it wouldn't . I called [redacted] in front of all the [redacted]'s and [redacted] laughed and said how can anyone guarantee dirt or mud wont wash away if grass isn't. I had him on speaker phone. I hung up and took the father aside and said Sir, I am sorry about your daughters dirt but you know and I know that nobody can guarantee dirt from washing away. He stated I know that, I'm not stupid but your salesman said something about the hillside. I stated that [redacted] mentioned that if you plant grass on the hill side it will stay put, but I'm sorry its rained so much and that that s out of my hands. We shook hands and he said can u put some asphalt in a trough to help channel the water , I said I didn't think it would work nut I will try. Mr. [redacted] come running over and started screaming at me in front of my crew and my son. He not only embarrassed me he belittled me in front of my son to the point my own son was begging me to leave cause he thought we were going to end up in a fight. All l was there to do was fix a small puddle. My crew and I built a trough and Mr [redacted] came up to me again and said who the hell is going to replant this grass again. I told him nicely that he would have to. He started yelling again at me stating that he and his wife were school teachers and held a lot of clout around the area and that if I didn't plant the grass he would bad mouth my company. I offered him a free seal job on his driveway if he agreed to pay me the 350.00 he owed me and he said OK. So I stated, so Mr, [redacted], it all came down to that you wanted something for free, he said damn right. I walked away and told them that [redacted] would be over with a free seal job contract and to pick up the check for 350.00. [redacted] went to collect the 350.00 they owed for fixing the puddle and she signed the contract for the free seal job and refused to write the check for the 350.00 after she signed the contract. I will not be doing anything free for the [redacted]'s or will be returning any phone calls of theirs until I receive my 350.00 they agreed to .

Sounds like the [redacted]'s like to have free things given to them. I'm sorry and in the 14 years in business, I have and my crew have never been treated so poorly or demeaned so badly by a customer. Especially as their little kids stood by and watch such a disgrace as roll models.

On a side note, after the work was completed he even gave us a recommendation for a friend of his. The driveway came out beautiful, still looks beautiful and will continue to look beautiful for years. Hell we must not be doing to bad for them to still want us to do their sealing work. They kept our 350.00 of my hard earned money, or is it they just want something free again.

I will be waiting for my 350.00 in the mail that she promised us.

Sincerely,

Review: I received a quote to complete work on 5/30/2013. I understand that Paving is a construction job and he could not do it immediately. I called several times throughout the summer and he said it would be done in 2 weeks, then another 2 weeks, then another 2 weeks. It never got completed. I called 1 month ago and I said realistically how long and when. he told me first week of September. It is now almost October and it is not completed. I need my driveway paved as it is not safe to get out of right now.Desired Settlement: I would like Revdex.com to get involved to tell M and D to pave my driveway. Thank you.

I am very sorry for not getting back in a timely fashion. I was out of town in South Dakota during that snow storm. I am very sorry for Mr. [redacted]'s issues with his driveway. My company has been struggling all year with the weather. Every time we lose a rain day we lose installation of three driveways. I am very sorry that Mr. [redacted] had his driveway installed by another company. We were in contact with Mr. [redacted] through the time since signing contract and I realize that we took a while to try to install and that it was very frustrating. Not only frustrating to our clients but also very frustrating to my company. I spend a lot of money to have a salesman do free estimates and lose signed contracts. Mr [redacted] also was not charged a cancellation fee for going with another company and not calling to even inform us of doing so.
