M. Duran Construction Reviews (2)

My name is [redacted] / owner of  Duran Construction. I am responding to a complaint that was filed against me by a Mrs. [redacted]. In my response what she said about me and my work ethic/quality was not correct. Originally I took on the job at a proposed cost for three weeks of labor only...

to tear off the old roof and replace new, and the homeowners negotiated a price much lower than my charge. That was my fault for still taking it on. I made clear that we would just do the work and clean our mess left behind. I stated that we will not be hauling debris off.  I told them that the only way I will go lower on my cost is if I give them a day labor charge and I work by the day for them. We agreed on $800 a day for me and three workers, for a total of 4 people on the job. I broke down the cost for her and I told her it would be $250 a day for myself and $150 a day for each of my labors, plus $50 for fuel each day because I was driving 150 miles one way back and forth everyday to do the job, plus $50 for miscellaneous cost each day. She agreed for me to work 14 days and she also said that they wanted me to lower a section of roof for an extra $1,000. She had many more request for me while we were there. I agreed to do the work but I told her that was for the roof only. When we started the job they were expecting us to Haul the taken of material to the dump to do other projects around the house like their Plumbing, tediously separate the trash debris that came of the old roof and ceiling repairs on the inside.  It was one thing after another that made it really hard on me and my guys to work for them. I had to sit down and tell the ladies that we needed to focus on the roof before we do any of the other stuff they were asking us to do. It seemed like that they were trying to take advantage of our labor there and we were taken away from what needed to be done for the proposed cost we charged. I had no problem helping out and doing a little extra in the beginning but at the end of the second week they were being overly picky and constantly telling me that I did not do my job right or fast enough when there is a process that needed to be done for the roof and I was not finished at those times. I never agreed that the 2nd  draw will be received when the whole old roof is torn off  and dried in. I had stated that the first draw will be requested at the time of us starting the job and the second draw will be requested after we put in a full first week. And that's what was requested and received. We worked for 16 days and for the first two weeks I had 4 helpers and myself so that was a total of 5 employees, when I was only getting paid for 4. The last week we were there ,yes, it was only myself and one other guy because there was no money in the job and the ladies were giving us a hard time about finishing the job, so the others didn't want to work for them anymore. I was asked on the last day when I showed up, to gather all my things off their property and leave. So the project was left as was and in the process that we were in. I did not deliberately leave the roof undone. I had full intention on finishing the project whether I had any money left in it or not because I stand by my work and my agreements . So what she was left with was because of the decision she made not mine. I have proof of our agreements and pictures of the work.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:  I have written proof of what he has said is false, I have written proof that he installed the metal roofing incorrectly and there is NO roofing company anywhere within Austin, San Antonio or otherwise that does not include removal of old roof debris in their quote to re-roof a structure. At $800 a day,vwe expected a Full crew working a full 8 hours and we got 1 lead who was trying to do everything portion of job only part of the time. (Thr rest of the crew only did what he told them and when he was not at job, No work was done.) We had roofing taking place at All hours of the night, because he showrd up when he felt like it, roofing at night, miscutying material and telling us he would fix it later.  He did lower roof, but did not finish out closing it in, has left it open to animals and elements.   The company  which completed his votched work, had us cleared, dried in and re-roofed within 3 days, plus they hauled off ALL trash he and his "crew" left behind. We were also told he was Insured, Bonded and Licensed...we have since found out that his license was only applicable to Kerrville and expired in Dec 2016.  Im sure he carries No insurance and is not Bonded either, which means he lied from the very beginning and continues to lie.
Regards,
