M & H Tires & Treads, Inc. Reviews (1)

I brought my wife's car into to this business for an oil change on 09/24/15 in which I brought my own oil. I have been doing the oil changes on the car since we bought it in 2012. The car is a [redacted] and it has a cover on the bottom which protects the engine. The cover contains multiple screws which secures it to the car. I decided to take it to this business for the oil change because I got tired of going thru all the screws to get to the oil filter. I checked the oil when I left the shop and easily noticed that I could see clear to the ground because they did not put the bottom piece back on. I went back to the shop and was told it was not there when I brought it in. I was also told that they usually charge extra to take off that piece because it is so tedious taking off the screws. That is not true because I put that piece on myself when I changed the oil and it was there the last time I checked the oil a week ago. The car is driven by a middle age woman who drives on the expressway back and forth to work and there have been no repairs on it in years. There is no wreckless driving to tear it off or some other mechanic not putting it back on after a repair. I think they thought I would not check and decided to save time by not putting the piece back on. The bottom of the engine is not protected and I'm sure Ford engineers put the part on there for a reason.Desired SettlementI would like the part they took off to change the oil. The old part with the screws is fine or a new part will do. Business Response Mr [redacted] did come in on 9-24-15 to get his oil changed, he did bring his own oil and filter for us to use. We charged him $15.00, the customary charge for all oil changes in which parts are supplied by the customer. We do charge an extra $8.00 to remove the under carriage shield because it is so time consuming. Mr [redacted] was only charged $15.00 for his service because there was no shield to be removed. We don't hold onto shields. Our service manager thought this to be a setup because he didn't remember Mr [redacted] leaving the parking lot before he checked his oil and checked the shield. In other cases there has been times where the plastic shields have been hanging on by a screw or two when it comes in and at that time we will ask the customer whether or not they want us to leave off the shield, replace it or try and repair it. This was not the case with Mr [redacted]'s car, the shield was simply not on it when it came in the shop. We have a small business here with only 11 employees and everyone here remembers Mr [redacted] coming back in and asking about the shield and everyone also remembers it not being one on the car. If there was a shield Mr [redacted] would've been charged $23.00. We have not heard a word from Mr. [redacted] since 9/24/15 until now, and can't fathom why he would've contacted Revdex.com instead of contacting us directly. Our small family owned business has been in operation since 1979 and we don't like conflicts such as these.Consumer Response As I stated in my previous statement, I use to change the oil in this car but I did not want to be bothered with the shield. I know the shield was on the car because I secured it on the car when I changed the oil several months ago. I checked the oil multiple times in the last several months and the shield was there. I checked the oil once I went to [redacted] across the street and noticed that I could clearly see the ground for the first time ever. It's strange that all the mechanics in this medium to large garage noticed my shield was missing on my wife's [redacted]. The car was not on a car lift for anyone to see the bottom of the car but the man working the oil changes below the car. If it was such big news that I was missing the shield than why didn't they tell me and charge me accordingly? Many cars and trucks were being worked on but everyone noticed my missing shield and noticed my return to question something everyone in the garage knew but refuse to share with me when the car was being worked on. I would have gladly paid the extra 8 dollars to remove the shield. In conclusion, a mechanic did not want to be bothered in replacing the multiple screws for the shield and thought I would not notice. I don't think the man I asked about the shield or the garage in general would support this action but one of their mechanics got lazy and did not finish the job. Their signs in the waiting room discourage or intimidate anyone from complaining about service. It's the biggest garage in the town and customer service is not a priority. I just want a shield for the bottom of the car. I will put it on myself.Final Business Response As stated in our previous response to Mr [redacted]'s complaint, there was no shield on the car when it entered the shop. We do not speak with every customer that has a shield missing on their car, because there are so many that are missing from normal wear and tear. We do not have a pile of shields in our shop floor that we lazily leave off customers' cars. We are appalled at the accusations being thrown at us about discouraging and intimidating customers from complaining about our service. There are three humorous signs hanging in our showroom that the owner of the shop thought to be funny. They were hung to be a conversation piece and until Mr [redacted]'s complaint have only been laughed at by our customers. We are at this time trying to get into contact with Mr [redacted] to get more information about his [redacted] so we can buy him a shield that he will put on himself, because his car will never come into our shop again. We do not like being falsely accused, but in order to stop this back and forth business through the Revdex.com, we are buying him a shield!
