Mabry's Garage and Towing Reviews (9)

The young man making the complaint had his vehicle towed by the police department because 1. he was a repeat offender w/a suspended license 2. he was following individuals on the road as if he was a police officer ready to pull a vehicle over becoming a distraction and hazard to others.  When we became in possession of the vehicle the driver advised him that he had another tow and should be back around 2:00 if he wanted to pay the towing fee and obtain his vehicle.  He was advised that the office is closed on the weekends and that he would only be able to retrieve his vehicle on a "on-call" basis when someone became available.  He then at that time stated that he did not have any money and would contact us when he did.  He called Saturday stating he was ready to pick up his vehicle and he was told at that time once a driver became available that they would contact him.  He proceeded to call over 10 times. And when the dispatcher asked him to stop and wait for someone to become available he stated "bh fk you and watch what happens when you see me".  The dispatcher then contacted the police department and made them aware of the situation.  They stated that he had contacted them several times and they made him aware that he would have to wait until a driver became available.  The officer then stated that since he has made such threats that he would have to come during business hours, that after hour release is not an option when threats are being made and to contact them when he does come into the business.  I have phone records of the numerous calls and the police department made notes of the 4 individuals that he contacted, persisting and demanding for them to shut down the business.  He then contacted the state police for the law stating that he has to pay for a tow.  Once he came into the office on Monday. He was charged the regular fee of $[redacted].00 for the tow and $**.00 for 1 day of storage.  Totaling $[redacted].00. Payment was made in cash.  The vehicle was released and he left out the building swearing and using profanity.  I am very sorry that this individual broke the law and had his vehicle towed per the order of the [redacted] Police Department but we did our very best to try and accommodate him so he could retrieve the vehicle but when he started to make threats we did as advised from the police department and that is to release it during the day during business hours with assistance if needed.  For further questions feel free to contact [redacted] at [redacted]Thank you for your time in advance.

I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
[Provide details of why you are not satisfied with this resolution.] This Company has told numerous of lies about fees because I was told within 10 hours my car was $[redacted] so that shows they added two days of storage fees already in price. I never stormed out or cursed at them. They were unprofessional and rude to me. They lie about things that never happen and the owner told me and my mom he got bruised and had to use two tow trucks. As you see he is a liar. I want them red flagged and shutdown. No Business like this needs to be around taking people belongings and treating victims to crime like they are the criminal. The car title has a lien on it so they can't sell the car anyway it belongs to a loan company

I do want to again apologize to this customer for the situation that happen on 4/8/2016.  When the customer was told that someone will come back at 2am he advised the dispatcher that he did not have the monies to get his car.  He continued to call and a the dispatcher that was rude to him...

was let go this morning.  When the customer came to the actual building this morning I apologized for any inconvenience that had occurred since his car was not available.  He was only charged $[redacted] for the tow and one day of storage which was a total amount of [redacted].00$.  The customer thanked us for the reduction in charges and left satisfied with how things where resolved.

we were contacted by the Petersburg police department on 5/1/2016 around 12:00 to the scene of an accident. it was raining on this particular night and when the driver arrived the vehicle had been abandoned in someone's yard, stuck in the mud with a portion of the vehicle wedged up against a...

tree.  the driver proceeded for over 30 minutes to retrieve the vehicle by providing a winch service to pull the vehicle out of the ditch and from against the tree.  the police department at this time did not have any record of the vehicle being reported stolen so they advised to store the vehicle.  the owner contacted us Monday asking the details of how to obtain his vehicle. he was told the bill was $500.00 w/a breakdown explaining the amount being $185.00 for the tow, $225.00 for clean up/winch/recovery service, and $45.00 a day storage equaling $90.00 (2 days of storage). He came to the place of business the following Tuesday and stated that he had no insurance and that the vehicle was stolen although he never reported it stolen to the police prior to the accident.  He then asked if he could retrieve his items and he was told that if he could at least pay for the tow in the amount of $185.00 to reimburse the driver that he may obtain his personal items.  he was not happy with that and stated that we were treating him unfair due to previous complaints.  We explained to him that we are in the business of treating every one fair and that then we also gave him a copy of the VA statue that states that personal items/payment for towing if not retrieved/paid becomes a civil matter between him and the towing company. we also explained that the reason it becomes a civil matter is because in most cases when an individual who does not have insurance once they retrieve their items they then abandon the vehicle on the property and then it becomes a legal issue for the towing company to obtain a mechanics and storage lien, try and notify owners/lienholders and try to obtain fees for services, once those methods are exhausted then the towing company has to at the company expense dispose of the vehicle. end result a loss for the company.  he then stated that he didn't have any money which is why he didn't have insurance. we then directed him to a business in Petersburg that try to help those in situations of such matters. he didn't want to hear that either. he then stormed out of the business stating that he was going to get us and using threats that are not allowed in a public place of business.  I am sorry if he feels that we are being unfair but we are operating our business according to the Virginia law/statue and they also advised him of this at the Petersburg police department.  if the individual can pay the fee for towing within the next few days he is more than welcome to retrieve his items from vehicle before we start the storage lien process.  thanks for your time and feel free to contact us for any further questions.

Review: My Car was stolen on the 2nd of May. By doing research I found out that Mabrys towing had possesion of my car. I was told by them I the victim had to pay $500 to get my car back. I then ask them could I retrieve a few things that might still be in the car and they told me I could. When I went down there to see if my things were still in there they realized I was the one who filed a complain in them before on this website so they refuse to let me get anything out of car unless I pay $185. But that's wrong because I'm a victim and they are mad cause I contacted y'all before.Desired Settlement: This Business needs to be Shutdown and red flagged

Review: I took my 2007 Buick in to have warantee work done. I understood there was a back up and it would be first come first serve. 6 weeks later I get a call saying the battery went dead and a sensor went out because of that and the warantee would not cover it. I asked for an estimate on what it would cost to fix it. I was told 485.00. They would have to take it to the dealer to have it fixed because they didn't have the correct tools to fix it. I told them to fix it. Two weeks later I get a call and was told on top of my deductible I was going to have to pay over 800.00 to get my car and I was being charged 117.00 for a new battery and 100.00 to put it in. I called a week later to get my car and I was told I would get a call back. They never called back. I called 2 days later and got the voice mail and left 2 messages and never received a call back. They are not very efficient I would not recommend this company to anyone in need of repairs on their vehicle.Desired Settlement: First they should have called me with the additional costs. and they should have replaced my battery on them since this would not have happened if they would have taken care of my car in the first place. If I would have known it would have taken two months to fix my car I would have taken it somewhere else and paid out of pocket. Now I have more problems and aggravation than I would have if I would have taken it somewhere else. I will not recommend this company to anyone.

Review: My car was towed Friday night around 11pm by Mabry towing for Petersburg Police. I was told by Officer I could get my car back soon as Mabry tows it. I called Mabry towing at 12am Saturday morning they said they wasn't coming back out until 2am and I would probably be sleep. So I told him I would get my car in the morning. I called at 8am Saturday and they said they were closed the weekend and they will charge me storage fee for weekend because they don't have no one there to copy my I.D but they say they are 24 hour tow. So you basic my are holding my car just to get paid extra money cause you wont have no one give me my car back until Monday. I'm not dealing with shop hours I'm dealing with your 24 hour tow that's holding my car because your saying no one is there. It's false advertising and fraud by holding my car and charging me cause you claim your 24 hour tow has no one availableDesired Settlement: I would like for the Business to be shut down and red flagged.
