DO NOT BUY NON-OEM CATALYTIC CONVERTERS FROM MAC AUTO
A buddy of mine accidently shot a 12 Ga shotgun through the floor of my 2016 Expedition hit the catalytic converter. A new OEM FORD part replacement would be about $1,000. I really couldn't afford the OEM part but was pleasantly surprised to find that MAC Auto had a non-OEM catalytic converter for about $500. I was skeptical, but that was hard to pass up. When the part came, I noticed that the actual Catalytic Converter was SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than the original Ford one. Within a couple of hundred miles of installation, I started getting ODB engine code P0420. I cleared it several times, but it kept coming back every couple of hundred miles. I tried to get a refund under warranty but was told that "my problem" was caused by an improper fuel mixture or some other problem in my truck. Now, my truck was running fine before the incident and no other engine codes were given other that the P0420. I eventually sprung for the OEM Ford part and am not experiencing any further problems. DO NOT BUY NON-OEM CATALYTIC COMVERTERS FROM MAC AUTO! Instead of saving $500, I wasted $500 and had to do the very difficult and time consuming changeout twice. DO NOT BUY NON-OEM CATALYTIC CONVERTERS FROM MAC AUTO!

1st & Last Time Dealing With Mac's
I ordered a turn signal kit which came missing 2 screws, 2 anchors, 2 clips & the mtg. strap. Also missing was 2 of the 4 6-volt bulbs (*both 6 & 12 volt bulbs included*
-copied from their website) I believe that 2 amber & 2 red lamps still adds to 4.
They customer service rep. had to check with their supervisor numerous times after telling me that only 2 6-volt, 0.95¢ bulbs are included.
Finally, after 48 minutes & 15 seconds, the supervisor gave his blessing to include the missing 2 6-volt with the shipment of the rest of the missing parts!
My time is worth more than $1.90 when it comes to dealing with such incompetence in filling an order as well as the customer service personnel who not been granted the ability to make any decisions on their own.
I'm going back to Lange's & Snyder's

Review: I paid $638 for a product on eBay from this seller. I gave the seller my VIN number in order to be certain that I rec'd the correct item. Even after I gave them the number they requested, they still sent me the WRONG item, after I paid $638. Then, I had to pay $75 shipping to send this item back to them, even though they sent the WRONG item. I sent it back, but the seller waited until after my 45 days of eBay Buyer Protection had ended, then ONLY gave a $512 refund - what about the other $126, that's missing. I spent over $700 ($638 item + $75 return shipping) to a seller for an item that they never delivered to me. Then, when I sent back their WRONG item, they only give me back $512 - and eBay suggested that it is right. (we have also opened a complaint against eBay on this matter also) WHAT! So let me process this correctly, MAC Auto sends the wrong part, and I get penalized. They lose no money, no rating, nothing. Me, on the other hand, I am out of $200 and I don't have my part! WOW!!! Please cause me to understand how this is anywhere near fair and equitable.Desired Settlement: I believe I should receive the entire $213 from the seller ($126 missing from original refund & $75 return shipping). The following is quoted on the seller's website as of 7/**/13... "Shipping charges are not refundable unless the return is due to our mistake." "If you choose a refund for the part, we will refund your shipping and handling expenses for a part sent to you in error, received defective or damaged in shipping. This refund will be automatically credited upon receipt and inspection of the part. We will also pay for return shipping to us for a part sent to you in error or damaged in shipping." They suggest they will cover the full refund & the return shipping if the part is sent in error, but they didn't... I would like them to honor their guarantee...

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: I purchased a "catalytic converter and front pipe" for a subaru forester legacy outback, brand new from Mac Auto Parts via [redacted] using [redacted] costing $365.04 total on December [redacted] 2014

The pipe was installed by a certified mechanic and ran smoothly for about 6 weeks; no issues.

While driving I then noticed a rattling sound coming from the said car; within 5-10 miles after hearing the sound the car would not drive above 20mph - the car broke down. I did not notice any smell coming from the car and my 'check engine' light never came on.

After taking the car to be examined by the mechanic - he noted that the new catalytic converter and front pipe piece I had purchased from Mac Auto Parts had caused the car to break down. A welded screen piece inside the front pipe broke free causing the rattling sound and creating a 'plug' effect in the emissions system of the car. The mechanic noted that nothing else on the car was problematic; there was no engine fail, no installation faults, or car performance problems. The break down of the car was solely due to the faulty catalytic converter and front pipe piece.

The catalytic converter is under a 5 year, 50,000mile federal law warranty. Warranty was denied by Mac Auto Parts.

After sending multiple pictures and explanations of the part (now removed from the car to be examined) Mac Auto Parts said break was due to an overheating of the car - which is false as stated by the mechanic. The car never overheated as proven by the 'screen piece' which caused the break still being a 'screen' - if the car over heated the piece would be melted and formed together - as the Subaru mechanic who surveyed the car explained. Mac Auto Parts said the pipe would have turned purple, brown or blue to prove an overheating - the piece had no such coloring to it.

In conclusion I have proof to assure the catalytic converter and front pipe part breaking was solely due to the manufacturing of the piece and therefor qualifies for warranty. My car had no previous issues, was insured and inspected by [redacted].Desired Settlement: Since such great time has gone by since I bought this part - I have spent weeks going back and forth with Mac Auto Parts, weeks communicating with [redacted] and [redacted] to resolve the issue (which lead no-where) and eventually had to purchase a brand new piece from another dealer; I want a full refund from this said purchase. Thank you.

Business

Response:

The business has responded. Please see below:Our warranty policy clearly states that before buying a converter buyer must be aware that catalytic converters are designed to last the life of a vehicle. if a converter needs to be replaced it is due to an emissions error/problem in engine tuning. This must be corrected before mechanic installs new converter. Buyer was giving a copy of our warranty policy and it states that " converters with "Blue-ing" shell are not covered by warranty" All warranty information was provided at the time of purchase on our website. His converter failure was due to initial emission error and this voids the warranty. Please refer to our Warranty Policy on our website for more information.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:The car part manufacturer is claiming cause of the break in the part to be the fault of the car when it was not the car. Break was due to a break in the welding of the part. There is no blue coloring on the part which clearly yields an overheating as well as the screens being in tact. I have sent over pictures to prove that as said before. Thank you[redacted]

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

The business has responded. Please see below:Our policy clearly states that "before buying a converter buyer must be aware that converters are designed to last the life of the vehicle. If your converter needs to be replaced it is due to an emissions error/problem in your engine tuning and this must be corrected before the new converter is installed" The buyer was given our warranty policy when she purchased the item and it is also posted on our website. A discolored or blue shell is a sign of excessive heat and these conditions are not covered by warranty.

MacAutoParts is the worst one, usually I don't write reviews but macautoparts is just a chect and fraud. They are good till you buy their product and they misguide on first place. They advertise 5 years warranty on their product and even you call after three months they don't honour the warranty and making excuses and try to make you fool. It was just waste of money and time. I will not recommend any body to purchase anything from there. Their products are just bad and their service is bad for customer satisfaction. It's better to shop some where else.

I will rate 0.5 in my experience.

Review: I purchased a set of Automotive Strut Towers from Mac Auto parts online with a 5 year warranty. the parts have failed and have caused abnormal tire damage and two front tires have been replace via Sears automotive at an additional cost of $375.49 to me. I purchased the Strut towers from Mac Auto at a cost of $167.99 to me on July **, 2011. I have made multiple attempts to resolve and return the defective parts to Mac Auto via Ebay messaging and via e-mail. I asked them several times to e-mail or message me an RMA number for return or refund. They have my e-mail address and I have documented all correspondences, however they have avoided sending an RMA number for an acceptable return. At his time I am not asking for exchange or replacement but a refund of costs to me as I will pursue it further if not settled.Desired Settlement: Refund of damages in the amount of $543.48

Response:

It is in our policies specifically that the warranty entitles the customer to a new set of parts not a refund. Also, we do not cover shipping or labor cost.

Below is more information regarding our Warranty Policy. You can find this information on our website. The link is down below

Warranty Parts

We offer the highest quality parts available, but in some rare cases there are manufacturer’s defects. If you have a defective item under warranty we offer options to make warranty service easier for you. In most cases you have the following options for warranty service:

You may return the warranty item to us for a replacement and pay just a shipping charge for us to reship it to you

You may pay for a new item and have a replacement item sent in advance. Then you may return the warranty item to us and you will be refunded less the cost of shipping (actual cost if free shipping)

Your original invoice serves as your proof of warranty so make sure you keep it

Part that are covered under warranty will be exchanged for the identical parts

ALSO WE RECOMMEND THAT ALL PARTS BE INSTALLED BY PROFESSIONALS, LABOR FOR ANY WORK IS NEVER COVERED REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE ITEM PURCHASED WAS

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I have tried upon several attempts to follow their warranty procedures by requesting an RMA number to return the defective parts. The seller would not send and RMA merchandise return number and as stated in their webpage they will not accept returns without it. As I stated the parts are defective and have caused damage to other components on the vehicle. If they do not replace the part in question I will at least forward my complaint and seek damages through the New York/NJ Attorney generals office of consumer affairs.

Sincerely,

Business
