Review: I rented an apartment from Macgil Village from Sept 2014 to July 2015. Due to my husbands Navy orders we had to move to [redacted]. This broke the lease 2 months early. But due to the Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act Section 535 we can break the lease due to military reasons. It has been months and the apartment manager is not forth coming with our deposit because he says we broke the lease and home office in [redacted] has to decide whether to return it. He says in their lease agreement there is nothing about military personal being able to break their lease. He refuses to give me the number to the home office so I can sort this out myself.Desired Settlement: I just want the deposit back.

I rented an apartment to complainant and her mother in Oct. of 2014 with a 1 year lease. It was understood at that time that she would be moving before the end of the lease and her mother was to stay in the apartment, which she has. When she gave me notice that she would be moving and asked for deposit refund I explained to her that the deposit stayed with apartment as long as her mother was still there. I explained to her and her mother that there still had to be a deposit paid on the apartment and the two of them needed to work it out between them. I have not received a deposit from her mother so the deposit is still being held for the rented apartment. [redacted]Manager- MacGill Village
