they changed caliper on right front and put the crystallized brake pad back on.which lead my vehicle to lose breaks. only told me that I needed breaks
When I called Mac Auto about my van's problem (Front end shaking) I told them I was not sure what was wrong with it. The lady in the office said they could take a look and fix the problem. It was seen on 6/17/2020. The lady in the office said she talked to one of the mechanic's and that it sounded like a caliper problem. I got a ride home and waited for their phone call to hear what the problem was and how much it would cost. I did not receive a phone call about what was wrong and how much it would cost. I only received a phone call when the van was finished and that I owed 205 dollars, and that the caliper was locked down that they fixed that one but to keep an eye on the other side that it looked like it was fixing to lock down as well. She also told me that the van needed breaks and the drums and rotors turned. I said ok just as long as it is SAFE for now she in-turn said yes it is safe.( I had to take my daughter to surgery the next day). The next day the van was still periodicity shaking and I just thought to myself well that must not be the problem.
On my way to pick up my mom from the air port just 4 days later the breaks went completely out. It scared me and my children. I then had to bring it to the closet repair shop that could get me in rite away. the repair man said that they put crystallized brake pads back on and that they were flaking apart. also said that they never should have put them back on in that condition.

Desired Outcome

i feel a full refund is in order due to their failure to provide a safe repair on a break pad that was clearly in decay and could have potently caused a dangerous outcome, the proper procedure is when changing a caliper and you see the break pad is crystallized you inform the client that it has to be repaired now not later since we the client have no way of knowing just how bad it was until we lost breaks going down the highway. the work that was performed did nothing to make the car safe nor stop the shaking of the front end. i am seeking a full refund of $205.00, for unsafe mechanical repairs that led to total break loss and another mechanic bill to fix what should have been fixed the first time

Mac's Repair Response • Jul 23, 2020

This Repair was not diagnosed as a Standard Brake Job. The Complaint of the Customer was that as she was driving the car would rock & shake & she would have to pull over to make it stop & then pull back onto the road in order to proceed. She arrived on 6/17/2020. When the Technicians began their diagnosis they determined it to be the Front Right Brake Caliper that was frozen up. The phone call was given to the customer explaining the findings and how much the estimate was going to be. She told me that was fine, & asked if it was ok for her Grandmother to pay over the phone when it was finished. The parts arrived & were installed on the vehicle & the vehicle was test drove as well, to insure proper stopping. The Technician noted that the customer needed brakes and for the Front Rotors to be Resurfaced. He also noted for the customer to keep a check on the front left because it too may need a caliper to be replaced. When the Customer picked up her Vehicle I made sure she was informed of this . The customer stated she would make an appointment soon for those repairs.
When reading this entire "complaint" I asked the Technician about the brake pads & what a Standard Brake job consisted of and that is checking the brake pads & rotors, brake fluids and brake lines & replacing the parts that are needed.
This however was NOT a STANDARD Brake Job. The Technician did inform me that the brake pads on her vehicle were glazed and they scuffed (buffed) them out, therefore Removing the glazing that was on them. Hence the reason for noting the issue that the customer needed brakes & rotors to be resurfaced. It could not be determined by any technician or anyone how quickly this glazing could reappear. Glazing is usually caused from a driver stopping too quickly over and over. It causes the brake pads to over heat & therefore a glazing then develops. When the vehicle left our shop, it was safe to drive. If the brake pads had been crystallized and flaking, then we would have definitely recommended that the brakes to be replaced that day. Our Technicians are very thorough when repairing vehicles. We know the importance of making cars safe to drive & pride ourselves on this. We have always stood by our word by telling our customers that if they have any questions or problems to give us a call or come back by and we will fix the problem. To this date I have yet to here back from the actual customer herself. (It was her Mother whom I spoke with about this incident) I informed her that our Technicians did not do anything wrong, & that fortunately no one was hurt. I do understand her frustration, but there was not an indication of the brake pads themselves to determine when or if they would fail, if the brake pad was in the bad of a condition, we would have called again informing the customer that her brakes were too bad to drive safely & that they needed replacing.
