As with many other restaurants, party halls, and hotels, we require a nonrefundable fee to secure a date for a special private eventThis is stated on our website and customers are verbally informed. Many customers, including Ms*** book their events via telephone and are consequently
unavailable to enter The Mad Hatter to sign any type of legal document affirming their knowledge of our long standing policy. The policy protects the restaurant against cancellations like Ms***We have spoken to via phone to Ms*** regarding her cancellation and verbally reminded her of our policyShe has continued to voice her displeasure on several review websites as well as now via the Revdex.comWe apologize that Ms*** feels wronged and support her personal policy of expressing her disapprovalWe accepted a nonrefundable room rental fee of $on May 12thIn her complaint, she states she called two days later to cancel and request a refundThere is no way that we would have been able to accept or attend to call of that nature on our busiest day of the year, Mothers DayIrregardless, the policy is for no refundsAgain, we apologize that Ms*** feels negatively effected and we hope she is able to find accomadations to her liking for the baby shower
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. I called the day after Mother's Day to cancel the event, which was scheduled months laterI will add that the woman who took my original inquiry about that date told me no one had shown any interested in the date, August 5, because it was the weekend of Park Avenue Fest When I called back a week later to schedule the date, she told me no one had called to show interest In fact, we discussed the fact that interest in scheduling that date would be low anyway because of the Festival. I venture that even between now and August 5, they either got no interest from anyone about reserving the space that date or someone has scheduled it My attitude is that the business simply needed the money so badly that they would be willing to jeopardize their relationship with a prospective future customer, and any other prospective customer who might hear about this incident from me.
Regards,
Jean ***
