Customer brought vehicle to store to have a smog inspection performed on it. The customer mentioned that the vehicle had been stationary for...

a while. My salesman, [redacted] went ahead and checked the computer reading on the vehicle and found a pending code, but the monitors were ready to have a smog inspection done. [redacted] discussed with the customer the possibility of the pending code causing the smog inspection to failed. However, the customer decided to approve of the inspection and service was done. The vehicle failed the inspection and customer left. Afterwards, the customer's father came and complained to us that we had unrightfully taken money from his son. He demanded that we refund him the inspection cost of $40.25. We stated that customer had approved of the work done, and we have documentation to prove it. We do provide a smog reinspection for a discounted price of $20 and we have told the customer about it.
On 2/22/16, I called father and talked about the situation and offered him the reinspection at no charge but he refused and wanted for the full money back, $40.25.

When he speaks about his salesman discussing the possibility of the pending code causing the smog inspection to fail. He failed to mention that same salesman led me to believe that it could pass ** long as the engine light did not come on during the test. The engine light did not come on and the truck failed. The code on the truck was a emissions related part, and it failed because the emissions were to high. Bottom line the sales pitch was miss leading and was a made just to make a buck. On 2/22/16 my dad did called and speak with Mr [redacted] about the situation and could not come to a resolution. Mr [redacted] stated dealing with this was a small inconvenience and would deal with it. I truly believe I was duped out of my money due to my lack of knowledge on vehicles. I put my trust in the people that I thought were trained and had the integrity to do the right thing for the customer. At some point someone has to stand up and say something for whats right. To clarify, we did not perform a pretest on the customer's vehicle. We checked the vehicle's computer for any pending codes and notified the customer of what we found. At this time, we had not even brought the vehicle in for any work, let alone a pre-test. After speaking to the customer, we made sure he understood that if we did perform the smog inspection, there was a chance that it would fail. Since we did not perform a pretest, we did not have any information regarding its emissions. The customer did acknowledge that information and chose to have the smog inspection performed on his vehicle, for which we have written authorization. The vehicle failed the inspection because of high emissions, not because of any codes in the memory.
After receiving a complaint from the customer's father, we let him know that the choice to have the smog inspection performed was the customer's only. We also informed him that we charge a discounted rate of $20.00 for a reinspection. After further complaints, we have informed the customer and his father that we would perform the reinspection at no charge. However, the customer's father still refused our offer.

I feel even if Big O Tire didn't break any state laws, he did in fact miss lead me to have my truck smog tested. And for that reason should return my money. I can say for sure they lost a customer and any recommendation from me if anyone ever ask my opinion of Big O Tire in madera. Thank you.
