Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/08/12) */
First of all characters isn't enoughHow can I begin to express everything that has happened with this customerThis job was me doing a favour for a neighbour, my neighbour owns property in Evansburg and begged me to help her because
she has had nothing but trouble with all the contractors in the areaThe customer doesn't not live in the area..I live right across from her buildingThere was a verbal agreement that she would not disclose the reduced rate at which I worked for herI was only working for her because of my neighboursI was trying to be a nice guy because any other contractor I suggested she hire, she told me were too expensive and didn't want to work for herI was also warned not to work for her by other contractors because she is unreasonable and over demanding for what she was willing to pay forI was also warned not to work for her by the only lumber yard in town by most of the staff, not just oneWe are a close-knit community, if they say don't work, usually I don'tBut because I was feeling sorry for her plight I thought that it would be ok, because it was supposed to be simple fixes, that couldn't be quoted out because I could not see how to figure out a price on fixing the trim around the doors and whatever else she mentioned and she said that I could work at it in my spare timeWe agreed at an hourly rate and I only billed only for the time I spent thereShe didn't want to pay much from the start, so I told her that I would only fix them and not make them prettyShe asked me to install two used outside screen doors which I said I couldn't do legally because they swung the wrong way for egress, but she begged and pleaded so much that I told her that she would have to say that she did them if someone was hurtWe were not able to make them work properly from the start but we did what we couldThey opened and closed and stayed shut if the tenants would close the doors, but that is another story, I don't feel that I should have to go close the doors every time a tenant doesn'tThe doors were the wrong ones from the start in my opinion and I didn't want to put them in from the start and I told her so, but like I said before, she did not want me to buy the proper hardware to make them work, she had a pail of old parts that she wanted me to use, so I thought that because I was doing a favour she would understand that it wouldn't be perfectShe never did really see them when we fixed themAfter we made the agreement, she phoned me asking me to drop what I was doing to install t-bar ceiling in an laundry room that is considered working in an confined spaceShe had an inspector coming the next day to look at it so she would pass her inspectionI dropped what I was doing to finish that for her and I only charged what we agreed on, plus the materials that I had to buyThis job took the better part of an afternoon, about hours, because I had to move out the washer and dryer and do some things with the electrical, which I am not qualified or certified to do, and work in an confined space which I did not enjoyI also had to get an electrician in look at the wiring for the lights in the basement which would cost $75.00/hour for three hoursI was also asked to put some trim around some doors in her apartments, because I was told not to spend any money on them I didn't try to do anything special with them because she had warned me about not making the bill too highso I didn't try to do things the way the next contractor told her to do them when she brought him over July 25, or whatever day it was when we waved at each otherSo I only did what was asked and only billed for what I didNow I sent a bill to her by mailI waited and waited, and waited, because it wasn't very much I didn't pursue the bill for many months, nor did I charge interest on the billThe invoice $550.00, which she complained about and I reduced to $475.00, this was dated August 12thI spent well over hrs working on her place getting material, working on the doors, working in the basement, doing many things that a handyman would charge twice as much for, I also have receipts for for trim that I had to buy to put around the doors, which she agreed to payI phoned her sometime in January to ask if she was going to pay me and she said that her mother was not well and was not paying any bills at the time, but she would write me a chequeSo I received the cheque around Feb 1st for $I decided to leave it at that and not do anything else for herShe returned months later and I decided to give back the hardware that I had been storing in my house and she was having a hard time because she had to get a boost from a tow truckI showed up at the wrong timeI told her that I didn't want to work for her anymore because she had short changed me and it wasn't working outI didn't want to be rude about it and leftLater she came with the $that she owed me and I told that I didn't want it, I refused the money, and I just wanted to be clear of the whole experience
She insisted that I take the money, so to get rid of her I didBecause she was having such a hard time getting things done at her rental units she came over to complain that I didn't finish these thingsI told her that I didHow was I supposed to know if they were taken care of or wrecked by disgruntled tenants? it was her word against mine, and I just didn't want to argue with her anymoreI fixed the problems she asked me to do, even though they were against code and against my better judgmentShe kept on yelling at me to finish the work but she doesn't want to pay what we agreed upon, I didn't bill her for anything I didn't doI don't feel I should work for freeThese building were worked on in August and now its August and she has had upset tenants in the meantimeShe wants a refund when I should have given her a bill that reflects the amount of work I did on the building plus bringing in an electricianI was hired on an hourly basis, she did not want to pay more moneyTherefore, I should not have to do more work for her that I am not being paid to doAfter being treated so disrespectfully, I did not feel responsible for removing concrete blocksAs for the notching out the door trim instead of cutting back a floor baseboard, one contractor's way of doing things and the next contractor's way of doing things are not in question here and should not be included in the complaintI have invoices and bank statement if needed to prove the payment issue and I can prove material costs as wellI feel that this is a waste of Revdex.com time and resources
