Review: On August 19, 2014 I obtained an over the phone estimate to mail an item I needed to have packed. When I brought my item to the store a few hours later, the estimate for packing material and shipping was nearly the same, but now they added a $30 labor fee, plus charged me $.50 for using my debit card to pay. There was no mention of any additional fees for the packing or the fee for using my debit card until it came time to pay. I expected a "mark up" on the packing materials since I was asking them to pack it, I did not however expect to pay additional labor since I was not informed ahead of time. If I didn't need my package to go out that day, I would have cancelled my transaction and gone to Home depot for cardboard and bubble wrap. I have e-mailed [redacted], Corporate Executive Officer (according to her business card)multiple times and finally received a reply today saying only "that's our policy" as an explanation. My complaint is that they are not up front with their charges/fees. Chase bank does not charge a merchant fee for debit purchases. The store had a tiny 3"x3" sign that was behind the counter and not able to be seen by customers (which I went back to the store this morning to see for myself). It is my opinion that this store operates using deceptive practices and that is wrong!Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of the $30 labor fee and $0.50 convenience fee that I was charged.

Response:

The customer has a printed detailed receipt they are given and it is clearly shown all the breakdown of our pricing the gal choose to ship the item with us and we provided a customer pack job and shopped her item as requested. We have also a computer screen in which all services and choices are shown as we let the customer decide what is the method carrier they would like to use.

We have a .50 cent fee for all debit and credit card purchases this is posted in the store by the register as well.

I hope this will be helpful.

Revdex.com,

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]

I am going to try and attach photos of my documentation. I called Mail N more to obtain quotes for packing and shipping, spoke with [redacted]. I used the back of an envelope to write everything down. There was no mention of a labor or debit card fee at any time during the quote or transaction. It was not untill I paid and looked at the receipt did I see those fees. I was not shown any computer screen with options for shipping. The pic of the sign indicating a $0.50 fee was taken yesterday after [redacted] finally responded to my 2 e-mails from last week and told me it was posted. As you can see that little sign was behind the counter and not really visable to anyone. The pics of my receipt show a cash transaction (even tho I used my debit card) in addition to finally being told of the labor fee. I want to be forthright and say that when [redacted] told me the total cost my response was "wow, that's a lot more than I was quoted", her response was only "yes", NO mention of the labor fee. You can see from my additional pic, I was only given packing material and shipping fee. [redacted] told me FedEx was going to be the least expensive.

Response:

I AM SORRY TO HEAR THAT THIS HAS NOT HELPED TO RESLOVE THE ISSUE. when WE DO A QUOTE ON THE PHONE IT IS ONLY A ESTIMATE UNTIL WE ACTUALLY SEE THE ITEM AND GET AN ACCURATE WEIGHT.

WE ALSO HAVE A LABOR FEE ON ALL STORE PACKS WHICH IS ON THE RECIEPT WE GIVE TO ALL CUSTOMERS WITH A BREAK DOWN OF ALL PRICES. the CUSTOMER HAS THIS RECIEPT IN THEIR HAND AND ARE ASKED TO REVIEW THE INFORMATION AND ACCURACY FOR ADDRESSES BEFORE LEAVING THE STORE.

THANK YOU,

Revdex.com,

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. When I called the store to obtain a quote, I gave the size and weight of the product I was shipping, no mention was made of a packing fee. At the store when her employee was measuring and weighing there was NO MENTION of ADDITIONAL PACKING FEES. It was not until I was asked for my debit card was I told the total charge. Again, I will admit I should have cancelled the transaction at that moment but I did not because it was a special present for a dear friend in Ohio and I needed/wanted it to go out that day. Packing materials were nearly $30 alone. An additional $30 fee for actually doing the packing is mind blowing. Her notice of a 0.50 fee for debit/credit charges was posted against the wall, out of sight of customers, not next to the register. I have already sent a picture of the small 0.50 fee notice, as well as my receipt for the packing/mailing and my notations on paper of when I called to obtain the quote. I will never use her business again, and I will let anyone who asks me re: mailing/shipping companies to avoid Mail N More or to at least be prepared for additional charges when shipping thru her business.

Regards,
