[redacted] and [redacted] Bryce hired and signed a contract with [redacted], CEO of Maile Weddings and Events approximately a year ago, in January 2013, to hire [redacted] as their wedding planner for their upcoming wedding in Hawaii (24 July 2014). As a couple living in Western Australia with family and friends in Canada and Australia, Hawaii made sense as a half way point to make it fair for all friends and family. When they hired [redacted] they did their due diligence in checking references and the Sheraton Kauai Resort had her as a preferred supplier, essentially Maile Weddings and Events had a great reputation in the Hawaiian Wedding industry at the time. Over the course of the past year the couple have had over 100 communication exchanges with [redacted] as their planner, whether it be via Skype or email in which she cultured their trust. Further to that, [redacted] went for a tour and food tasting at the Sheraton Kauai Resort on 20 June 2013 and met with a representative from Maile Weddings and Events [[redacted] – (now former) Lead Coordinator, Kauai. [redacted] also met with the florist and hair and make-up artist that day. Upon returning from her trip to Hawaii and Canada, [redacted] arranged to send [redacted] vendor deposits in July and August in order to secure the wedding vendors chosen, as per the agreement signed with Maile Weddings and Events which states Maile Weddings and Events are responsible for forwarding on vendor payments on the couple’s behalf as a part of their services.
In conversation with [redacted] over the US Thanksgiving weekend in 2013, [redacted] mentioned she was moving to Arizona to be closer to medical treatment for her husband and that we would touch base in the New Year. [redacted] emailed [redacted] on 10 January 2014 to set up the next consultation. As [redacted] hadn’t heard back by 13 January 2014, [redacted] typed in “Maile Weddings and Events” into Google to look up the company phone number and the search resulted in unexpectedly finding bad online reviews of [redacted] and Maile Weddings and Events on Yelp.com http://www.[redacted].com.au/biz/maile-weddings-and-events-honolulu AND Wedding Wire http://www.[redacted].com/reviews/maile-weddings-and-events-honolulu-orange-coun... These reviews seem to be all since September 2013 – January 2014 and it was the first time that [redacted] and [redacted] had ever come across such bad information on the company and [redacted]. Immediately [redacted] and [redacted] emailed all of the vendors directly including Passion Flowers Kauai; [redacted] Photography; [redacted] Moriguchi - Hair and Makeup; and the Sheraton Kauai Resort in order to ask if they received their deposit money. All vendors confirmed that they had not received the couple's deposit money from [redacted] and as a result no formal contracts were in place as a result of no deposit received within 30 days of the date of the agreements signed. The couple was devastated. The couple spoke with the Sheraton on 14 January 2014 (13 January 2014 for Kauai) with the Director of Sales, Brent Lausterer and Marketing and Meeting and Events Manager, [redacted] who confirmed that as of the “fall 2013” they no longer worked with [redacted] or Maile Weddings and Events due to similar complaints and issues which they were not able to elaborate on.
All other vendors mentioned they have heard of other couples having the same issues with [redacted] ‘stealing’ their money and ruining their wedding day. All of our vendors were very understanding, particularly the Sheraton Kauai Resort who said that they had experience successful events with [redacted] and Maile Weddings and Events in the past and that when the couple hired her she had a good reputation. [redacted]/Maile Weddings and Events owes the couple $2574.56 USD (total deposits for catering, florals, officiant, DJ and Hair & Make up + service fee) sent via credit card payment through WePay on 14 July 2013, and $1811.33 AUD for the photography deposit sent via International money transfer/money wired from [redacted] and [redacted]’s bank accounts in Australia on 17 August 2013. The couple have asked [redacted] to pay them back (email sent 14 January 2014), but have not heard back from [redacted]. The couple is not able to get the $1811.33 AUD for photography deposit back from the Bank as [redacted] has since closed this bank account. The couple is still waiting to hear form the dispute team at their bank to see if it is possible to get the $2574.56 deposit made by credit card. The couple requests Maile Weddings and Events to return deposit money back to [redacted]. The couple requests that her fraudulent behaviour is stopped.

Review: Please note this complaint is for Maile Weddings and Events, based in California, not Maile Weddings and Photography, based in Hawaii. We hired Maile Weddings and Events to assist with planning our wedding and as part of our contract, they are responsible for the management of our vendor contracts and payment of vendors on time. We sent them deposits for all of our chosen vendors between March and July, amounting to over $10,000. We found out on through our own inquiry in August that none of the vendors (including our venue) been paid their deposit and several of them had not received signed contracts nor had their services actually been booked. We confronted the CEO from Maile, about this at the beginning of August, and were successful in getting our deposit paid for the venue but to this date our other vendors have still not been paid. We spoke with the CEO at the beginning of the week and she assured us that all payment issues would be resolved and we would receive a 50% refund on our wedding planning fee for failure to provide the contracted services by the end of this week but have not heard back from her since. We would like assistance in getting our payments made to our vendors and our refund, or alternatively assistance with how do deal with this embezzlement of our money as by our calculation the are sitting on about $7,500 of our money which they have had for several months now, all of which is due to our vendors. We also want to lodge a formal complaint so that anyone else considering using them is aware of these issues. Our wedding is in 6 weeks and full payment to vendors will be required in 2-4 weeks time so need help releasing our funds from them urgently.Desired Settlement: We would like all vendors to be paid their deposits OR all of our money returned to us so that we can then pay our vendors ourselves. This amounts to $7,500. In addition we would also like our refund as agreed with the CEO. This was for the amount of $1,888.

Review: Our wedding planner stole our deposit money intended for our wedding vendors sent to [redacted]/Maile Weddings and Events 14 July 2013 ($2574.56 AUD - total deposits for catering, florals, officiant, DJ and Hair & Make up + service fee) sent via credit card payment through WePay, and 17 August 2013 ($1811.33 AUD - photography deposit) sent via International money transfer/money wired from my bank account in Australia. Vendors include Passion Flowers Kauai; [redacted] Photography; [redacted] - Hair and Makeup; and the Sheraton Kauai Resort (catering, Officiant and DJ). Payments totalled $4,385.89 AUD. We hired [redacted] - Maile Weddings and Events a year ago, 12 January 2013, as she sold herself as a preferred supplier for the Sheraton Kauai Resort and gave us good reasons to work with her. Over the course of the year we had over 100 communication exchanges through Skype, email and I even went to Kauai on 20 June 2013 and met with a representative from Maile Weddings and Events at the Sheraton Kauai Resort for a venue tour, tasting, meeting with the florist and a hair and make up trail. It was only brought to our attention on 13th January 2014, when we accidently found bad reviews online of her recent work: http://www.[redacted].com.au/biz/maile-weddings-and-events-honolulu AND http://www.[redacted].com/reviews/maile-weddings-and-events-honolulu-orange-coun... which detailed couples who were clients of hers who experienced [redacted]/Maile Weddings and Events pocketing their deposit money leaving Vendors unpaid. Upon reading the reviews my fiancé and I immediately contacted our Vendors directly to confirm whether or not our deposits were received in July/August 2013 and we were devastated when all the Vendors confirmed they had not received our deposits (paid to [redacted] to forward on to them - as we signed and agreed with [redacted]). The Sheraton Kauai Resort informed us that they no longer work with her as of "fall 2013" and they did not have our contact information to let us know. As of 14 January 2014 we had no contracts or deposits in place for our wedding 24 July 2014 as [redacted] has held onto our deposits totalling $4,385.89 AUD. As she has breached the contract we signed with her, specifically her responsibility as the wedding planner to "ensure Vendors deposits and contracts are secured in a timely fashion, payments made and tracked by Maile Weddings and Events," we emailed her on 14 January 2014 letting her know we no longer require her services, and we request she pay us our deposit money back (totalling $4,385.89 AUD). We have not heard from [redacted] since emailing her on 14 January 2014 and we have since disputed the payments through our Bank's fraud team however the Bank cannot guarantee us any return of payments.

We want [redacted], CEO of Maile Weddings and Events to pay us back our wedding vendors deposit money totalling $4,385.89 AUD immediately. We also want her fraudulent behaviour stopped by authorities in order to help prevent this from happening to other innocent couples like ourselves. She is ruining many couples' special day and it is criminal!!!
