To whom it may concern,
In July of 2013, we completed driveway and concrete work for the referenced homeowner. I was unaware of any attempts to contact us regarding concerns of the concrete work in February of 2014. I do recall communicating with the customer in March of 2015. They sent...

pictures of the concrete work which showed pitting of the sidewalk. I went to the residence and after review, determined that the damage was caused by salt from the past 2 winters. The customer assured me that he did not apply salt to the concrete. This can be true that the he did not directly apply salt to the concrete, but he did indicate that he used salt on adjacent pavement and driveway. This salt could have tracked onto the new sidewalk. In my many years of construction experience and after discussing the issue and showing pictures to other concrete contractors, we all came to the same conclusion that salt had affected the area. We have all seen this before and every time it was due to salt. There is no other explanation on how the concrete could have pitted that way. We purchased the concrete from a direct ready mix company. This was not a hand mix or bag mix. The concrete came delivered directly from the manufacturer in a large concrete truck. We installed the concrete properly and it was fine for a long time according to the customer. This is not a workmanship or product warranty, since we cannot control what is applied to concrete surfaces after our installation.Regards,
Gianni C

8/21/15To whom it may concern:We will be happy to work with the homeowner to remedy the concrete damage. We have not had a complaint like this before. The homeowner has reasonable and understanding concerns but we feel that we did a good job installing the concrete. We are hesitant to agree to all of the claims because of the time period that has passed and the obvious damage caused by severe winter conditions. We do not warranty against winter freezing conditions or anything Mother Nature can cause. The past 2 winters have been some of the worst in recent history. How can we be responsible for this? How can I go back to the manufacturer and claim they sold me a bad batch of concrete? This was not a large job and no reason to apply extra water to the concrete. We feel we installed the concrete correctly according to best general practices. As stated before, we have never had a complaint like this.
