Review: [redacted] Mair informed me that the vehicle I purchased from him had 74606 miles when in fact, [redacted] indicated it had over 129,000 at the time of the sale whihc I was not aware of unitl 2 weeks ago.. It's a 2002 [redacted] 1.8t. I traded a 1999 [redacted] Accord for the [redacted]. I have put over $1500 worth of part and labor into thie vehicle since then.Desired Settlement: Refund for all costs, car , part and labor for a total of $8855.00

This letter is in response to ID# [redacted], recieved 1/20/14. **. did purchase a 2002 [redacted] from us on 4/25/13, with 74606 miles at the time of the sale. At no point from which we acquired the vehicle, to the point of the actual sale did we have any indication that there may have been a potential odometer issue. All of our cars available for sale on our lot have visibly posted [redacted] vehicle history reports. The most current report for the vehicle in question shows no mileage discrepancy, just as it did when we purchased the car and at the time of sale.

[redacted]'s competitor in the vehicle report business, [redacted], is another source for looking into a cars past. We have posted in our office that anyone who wishes to purchase a [redacted] report may do so and we'll refund that cost upon purchase of that vehicle. **. [redacted] did not take advantage of that offer. Furthermore, this customer did not provide any proof that [redacted] showed an odometer discrepancy on the date he purchased the car. In other words, vehicle history reports can change retroactively if and when new information emerges.

This ** was purchased from a dealer-only auto auction and it was represented by the selling dealer as a 'green light' vehicle. This means, in general terms, that there are no compelling issues with the vehicle that the buyer cannot see or hear. Structural issues or repairs, branded titles and rolled back odometers are taken very seriously and would have been covered under this condition. The title to the [redacted] that we received from Penndot shows no branding and is clean, with the mileage in line with what is shown on the odometer. The bottom line is, Mair's Continental Motors and its sales people had NO reason to suspect there was a potential issue. It is also understood by many car buying customers that vehicle history reports can and have been found to be inaccurate.

We heard **. [redacted]’s concerns in person. We offered our support in helping him back track the issue as far as we can, which means working with the auction company and the dealer who sold the car to us. We also agreed to help him possibly regain some or all of his original purchase price through the buy-back program offered through the [redacted] corporation, if in fact [redacted] can verify the issue and agrees it did not provide all of the available details to make an informed purchase. At this point, the two vehicle history reports are in disagreement and the customer has possesion of a clean Pennsylvania car title.

Mair's Continental Motors is understanding of **. [redacted]s frustration but is in no way responsible for a refund of not only the purchase price, but the repairs done to the car in the 9 months and many thousands of miles of ownership. Furthermore, some of the repairs to the car that **. [redacted] wants to be compensated for are for typical mileage appropriate services and for negligence and damages caused by another garage while performing a routine service. Again, we are willing to shoulder some of the burden to help him explore a buy back by those responsible for this issue, but that will require un-deniable proof that there was an actual odometer roll back.
