We did write an estimate in our parking lot for the customer’s son for $4616.91.  We called and spoke by phone with the mother and did receive approval to begin repairs, she authorized a credit card charge of $1500 as a down payment.  We moved the vehicle into the shop and began the repair...

process.  It was during this process that we discovered a large amount of pre accident damage to the structure of the vehicle.  [redacted] my estimator called the mom and informed her about this damage and told her that it would likely be an additional $2500 to fix the old damage as well.  The father called back on January 28th very upset about the increased cost.  He cancelled the repairs and rescinded the authorization for repairs.  My receptionist informed that normally we would charge storage fee on the vehicle, and restocking fees for the parts ordered, and fees for dismantling the front end of the vehicle.  He was even more upset and told her that he was reporting this to “someone”.  The father was informed that the additional damage that we found on dismantle was not from this accident, rather it was a prior repair that was not completed correctly.  He was also informed that the first estimate was only a visual one since we did not have permission at that time to take anything off of the vehicle. The mother called me on January 29 stating that her husband wanted her to call and get a refund of the $1500 less a “tear down” fee.  I stated that would be fine.  I did explain that there would be a charge of $120 for the dismantling of the vehicle.  She stated that would be fine.  I ran her credit card again for the credit amount of $1380.00.  The vehicle is still here waiting for a friend of theirs from [redacted] to come and haul it back to [redacted].  I did NOT charge them storage or restocking fees.  The complainant’s desired settlement was handled at 1:57 PM on the 29th.  I assume that there is nothing else to be done with this complaint.  I believe the $120 fee is more than fair for the time we have expended in this case.
