Makeover Max Inc Reviews (5)

Review: In October, 2012 my wife and I purchased a $18,000 whole kitchen cabinet renovation from Make-Over-Max, a remodeling company based out of San Diego, California. We were told that the company was experienced and financially stable, and had been in business for many years. The representative sat with us at our home and explained that if we ever had any type of problems, we could call and someone would get back to us within a day or two.Approximately 3 months after the completion of the remodel, we began to observe a few hinges and handles loosening. We also observed a door panel that needed repainting due to mismatching of the color. We did as we were advised and contacted [redacted] (Project Manager) and [redacted] (Service Tech). At first, they were helpful and remedied the problem. But as time has gone by, we are now observing more problems arise. The cabinet doors are now beginning to show cracks anthroughout the faces of the cabinets. Hinges are beginning to fall apart, piece by piece. We learned that the handles were installed by using screws entirely too short, the cabinets are chipping everywhere and smudges do not wipe off as we were told.We have attempted to contact [redacted] and [redacted] numerous times. Both have explained to us that they no longer work for the company. [redacted] has stated that even though he no longer works for Make-Over-Max, he will come over to repair any problems we are encountering, but he never shows up. We have contacted the owner, [redacted] and he explained to us that he was going in for surgery and as soon as he was out, he would do whatever it took to make us happy customers. As of today, we have left many messages on the owners phone and his daughter's ([redacted]).We have gone to the physical address to complain of the lack of service and communication only to encounter an office with boxes scattered throughout the floor. Our contract gives us a full year warranty for any defects in design, parts and labor.Desired Settlement: We would want better quality hinges installed, longer screws, some cabinets replaced and chips touched up. If not possible we would want a full refund!

Review: Makeover Max failed to complete contracted work on the exterior of our home after accepting a check for 50% of agreed upon price on 6/19/2013. The company only completed the installation of a new 40 year roof. Uncompleted work includes : Cool Wall Super-cote exterior texture on house, new Anlin windows and doors throughout house including 5 sliding doors, green fiber insulation in ceiling, 2" insulated garage door, seamless rain gutters and down spouts, re-stain redwood finish, refinish exterior of front door, re-paper one side of garage wall, verbal agreement to install front security screen door and two new front lighting fixtures. Start and stop dates for all work 6/5/13 - 7/15/13.

I Thomas White have repeatedly tried to contact [redacted] of Makeover Max with on success, he nor anyone from the company will return calls or email. The last time I spoke with or have seen [redacted] was on the date he accepted a check for $21,255.50 in the dinning room of our home on 6/19/2013. Subcontractors have called or come by our home requesting money and supplies to complete or start work on our home.Desired Settlement: Refund check or complete agreed upon work on our home.

Review: We hired Makeover Max to replace our garage doors and some electrical work. We were financed through a bank that they use. We received the check and we were told to give the check to the company which we did. This was before any work was done. We did not get any work started until about 6 months later. We were told that because we lived so far that they did not want to come up just to do one job. This is actually just what took place. Two different subcontractors on two different occasions came out to the house. We started making payments before we had any work started. We continued to make phone calls as to why they took our money but have not started any wok. When we signed the contract we were told as well as in writing that the interest on the credit card we used would be paid back to us. We have tried call the only point of contact that we had but we were told that he no longer works for the company and that the company has filled for bankruptcy. We have tried calling the owner but every time we call him he tells us that he is out of town and will call us when he returns. We decided to go by the office in Mission Valley. The office looked like it had been abandoned. We have tried to call but no one is answering. We have tried to call the owner but he has not returned any of our calls.Desired Settlement: We would like a refund as well as all the written promises that were made.

Review: My compliant to the Revdex.com is based on the failure to complete the job per the contract. I contracted with Makeover Max to install a solar system on my property. The initial contract dated 4/27/13 included the following:

• Installation of a 250+ Watt REC solar system

• Remove tile roof and inspect wood for damange. Replace felt.

• Install tankless water heater

There were issues with preparing the roof for the solar system, as well as the SDG&E inspection, and a contract amendment was agreed upon on 5/31/13, which included:

• Install 200 amp panel to handle the solar application

• Install additional layer of felt to prevent leaks under the solar panels

• Replace additional tiles under the solar panel installation area, as the current tile manufacturer was out of business and could not obtain replacement tiles

• Install additional component for the water heater

The job is not done and no progress has been made in the last 60 days. The water heater system was installed but fails to meet plumbing and electrical code. The solar system has not been delivered or installed on the property. The 200 amp panel has not be delivered or installed on the property.

Makeover Max fails to fulfill the contract in full. Company representatives fail to respond to voice mails and written communication, requesting the completion of the job per the contract. In my last verbal conversation on 7/2/13, the project manager said “he hoped to continue on the job as soon as possible but had no date due because the company didn’t have enough funds to start the job.” Per my documentation I show that Makeover Max has received $34,598.78 out of the $36,276 per the contracts.

The solar installation team was scheduled to install the solar panels on 6/20/13, in preparation for the SDG&E disconnect/reconnect on 6/27/13. The solar panels were not delivered and the installation team canceled the installation without contacting me. On 6/30/13, a solar team member said that there has been no contact with the project manager at Makeover Max and that he was not going to start the job.

I have left numerous voice mails with the main office line and the project manager cell phone from 7/15 to 7/31, with no return correspondence. Representatives from Makeover Max also have not responded to my written communication on 7/22 requesting a formal action plan to complete the project per the contract.Desired Settlement: Refund funds for the installation of a 250+ watt solar system. The original contract dated 4/27 was for $25,626, which included the solar system, remove and replace 30 lb felt and install tankless water heater. The felt and water heater have ben installed. Need to come to an agreement on the value of the roof felt and water heater, so it can be removed from the amount to be refunded. Need to be compensated for water heater electrical installation, that does not meet electrical code, so another electrician can install properly.

Refund of $2,600 for the 200 amp electrical panel, per the contract on 5/31.

Review: On June 29, 2012, the company Makeover Max solicited us ([redacted] and [redacted]) for the purchase and installation of residential solar panels. We signed a contract for 10 solar panels plus the installation which cost a total of $16,800. Makeover Max provided financing through Enerbank and San Diego Metropolitan Credit Union (SDMCU). Enerbank would finance $5040, while SDMCU would finance the rest, $11,760. We then signed this agreement.

In late September 2012 [redacted], the co-owner of Makeover Max, contacted us and told us Enerbank and SDMCU no longer worked together and we would have to enter a second contract in which SDMCU financed the entire amount of $16,800. We had already signed and turned over the checks from Enerbank for the total amount of $5040 to Makeover Max and [redacted] agreed that he would have the checks stopped and pay any remainder due to Enerbank. So we entered into another contract to finance the entire amount of $16,800 though SDMCU.

In early July 2013 we received a letter from Enerbank stating we needed to pay the $5040 in order to avoid any finance charges. We contacted [redacted] via phone and he said he would take care of everything when he got back to San Diego (he was on travel) on July 12, 2013. [redacted] did not resolve this issue with Enerbank. We have been trying to contact Makevoer Max ever since and no one will answer the phone. We tried to contact Makover Max at their office during the open hours and no one was there.

Makeover Max is clearly at fault as they have basically charged us an extra $5040 over the contracted price of $16,800 for the 10 solar panels. Makeover Max has cashed the checks from Enerbank totaling $5040 and the checks from SDMCU totaling $16,800 for a grand total of $21,840. This was not the contracted price of the purchase and installation of the 10 solar panels.Desired Settlement: Makeover Max owes us or Enerbank the entire amount of $5040 plus any accrued interest. We financed the entire amount of $16,800 through SDMCU and signed another separate contract stating so. Because Makeover Max kept the $5040 from Enerbank, they owe this amount plus any interest to us since we have already paid Makeover Max the negotiated price of $16,800 with the money from the SDMCU loan.
