Manion & Associates LLC Reviews (3)

I tried helping Mr. [redacted] by cleaning up and reviewing his business [redacted] account in order to file his taxes as he requested. Mr. [redacted] had not been very forthcoming about the size of transactions in his [redacted] account by stating he just started his business and needed a few transactions... looked at. When I looked at his account I was surprised to find several uncategorized transactions. The Dec 31, 2017 book balances did not match the December business bank statement and nothing had been reconciled all year. It became clear to me that this was going to be a bigger project than anticipated. I decided I would have to do manual bank reconciliations and go month by month to make sure everything was properly entered and categorized. On March 30th it was brought to my attention that there was a second business [redacted] account that needed cleaned up and reported as well. Due to my time constraint during the busy tax season I felt I needed more time to understand his business and to correctly categorize his transactions and reconcile so I could have a reliable set of financial statements for the tax return. I did not want to rush it and report the unreconciled [redacted] numbers on his tax return. I never guaranteed to Mr. [redacted] that I would be able to complete his project by the tax due date I always told him that I would try my best to finish everything as best as I could. I did set aside time to work on his project and I did try making the April 17th deadline but I just ran out of time and it just wasn't feasible for me to review 2 sets of [redacted] accounts for the entire year before the tax due date. I never guarantee to any clients that their books will be cleaned up and their tax returns will be filed by the tax due date especially new clients that I am not yet familiar with and that need a year's worth of their books looked at beforehand in the middle of busy tax season.I had to inform Mr. [redacted] that I wanted to file an extension for his tax return so that I could have more time post tax season to go over his business transactions with him to make sure everything was properly categorized and that no expenses were missing or duplicated. Mr. [redacted] had informed me that he had filed an extension the prior year and that usually he receives a tax refund so to me the better decision was to file an extension since we wouldn't have to worry about owing any interest and penalties and I could have more time. After I told Mr. [redacted] that I wanted to file an extension he became very difficult and unreasonable to work with. He started sending me very disrespectful emails and voicemails telling me that he wasted his time on me and that I didn't know how to manage my time and do my job. He said very rude comments like I must have to file extensions for all my clients and that I was incompetent. He left voicemails demanding that I send him daily updates on his project even though it had only been 2 days after the tax due date. It became pretty obvious to me that we were no longer going to have a good productive working relationship and I did not appreciate being harassed with the multiple disrespectful emails and voicemails. He made it quite apparent that he was not happy with me.At that point I emailed Mr. [redacted] his extension and told him that I thought it would be best he find someone else to work with that would better suit his needs and expectations since he was so upset with me. He responded with the following: "I intend to contact the Colorado Attorney General’s office to report your fraudulent business operation (probably run out of the TV room of your house), contact the RevDex.com to let others know to steer clear, call [redacted] back to let them know what you have done to me and encourage them to pull your certification, and complete as many online reviews as I can to warn others to steer clear of Manion & Associates (I doubt there are any Associates, by the way). In addition, if I incur any fees from the IRS I will file a claim against you in court for reimbursement. You are a disgrace to the CPA profession and I hope you are found out for the way you treat customers and run your shoddy business." I do not understand the rude comments about me working from home or not having a staff as I clearly state on my website and tell my clients that I work out of a home office and that I don't have a staff...I have never claimed anything different. If Mr. [redacted] was so bothered by these facts then he shouldn't have contacted me and instead sought help with a traditional CPA firm. I don't think he even read my website or researched anything about me until me. I do not believe there is anything I can now do to work with Mr. [redacted] at this point and it is clear we are not the right fit to do business together. I have since blocked his email address and phone number as to not be harassed anymore.Tell us why here...

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: as always Andrea is playing very loose with the facts.1. I was very forthcoming about my business - I never stated I had just started my business, which is run more as a hobby since I am the only employee and pay myself $500 per month.  If this size business is too large for Andrea, she should not be in the tax preparation business and should be more forthcoming about her limitations in serving very, very small businesses. 2. I never asked Andrea to do a month by month reconcile - I have documentation that several times I reiterated my requests - tell me what categories I should be organizing my  expenses in to help with taxes, and then file the return once I was done. This is just an excuse for her endless delays and stall tactics.  The fact remains that she never gave me status unless I asked after not hearing anything from her for prolonged periods of time.3. I am willing to make public all communiques with Andrea to show how patient and professional I was throughout the engagement.  Only after telling me the day of the deadline she would need to file an extension and after asking her for confirmation that she did that but hearing nothing, did I send the final email telling her what I thought of her poor customer service and incompetence.  Until then I held out hope and was professional in all interactions.  4. Andrea claims I demanded daily updates - that's another bold face lie from this master of convolution. I did ask for updates but would have been happy with weekly ones, which I never got without continuous solicitation. Produce the voicemails if you can.5. People looking for tax preparation resources need to see my verifiable timeline and comments and judge for themselves whether they want to risk their tax preparation with Andrea. I see Andrea has removed all reference to [redacted] and being [redacted] certified from her website after this embarrassing episode was exposed. My remaining requests are to have these my comments, rating, and timeline available for others looking to do business with Andrea to review, and for her to pay all fines and fees associated with her not completing the taxes by the deadline after having over 2 months to do so.
Sincerely,
[redacted]
