Review: Purchased a engine from a Manteca Auto Dismantler, Lathrop, Ca. Engine was advertised "Runs Good" and came with 30 day warranty. Engine was purchased 25 Apr. Engine was slightly different to what I needed. had to wait 9 days for business to ship me correct parts for engine off my core engine. engine sold to me was for 2x4, I needed 4x4 engine . Engine was installed and wouldn't run. 2 weeks of troubleshooting no luck. Vehicle was taken to a mechanic where he conducted various test. Results: engine cylinder pressures too low and engine will not run. Engine worn and requires a rebuild. Notified business 29 May of engine purchased situation, 34 days from original purchase date. Employee notified me he would consult with owner on a solution for refund. 30 may called business back for answer, employee said, "they would call me back" and took my info once again. 3 days after that, 1 June, I called business back once again for an answer, employee took down my information once again and said, "I will talk to the owner". 2 hours after that I was finally given an answer, answer was- engine could be returned to business and I could get another engine, but unfortunately they have no engine available nor unknown date of availability, all they could give me is store credit for $813.00. I notified employee, Julio, that I wasn't going to drive 170 miles to receive store credit for a business that doesn't have any products I need. Asked employee to talk to owner, employee said he would notify the owner, and he would give me a call back. Today Thursday, 6 June still no returned call after 72hrs. Also, I suggested to the employee, all I wanted was my refund of my engine so I can purchase another engine or if they could possibly locate another engine with a partner business so I can get my vehicle running. Lastly I suggested to employee of a business nearby that had an engine for $600 nearby and if they could work something out with them. I have no issue returning engine 170 miles for my $813.00 refund.Desired Settlement: Refund for purchase price of engine $813.75 and return of long block core engine provided to business, in return for engine purchased from business. I do not want a refund for mechanic cost nor for fuel cost to return product 170 miles. Simply want $813.75 refund with my old engine provided so I can go purchase another engine at a nearby business.

In regards to the complaint submitted on 6-4-2015 (ID assigned 10654972). A 30-day warranty has been stated to our customer (as is to every customer) and we hold to our policy. The policy states that it is a 30-day warranty, after 30-days it is only exchange or store credit. The customer had contacted Manteca Auto Dismantlers on the 34th day from the original purchase, therefore only exchange or store credit can be made. We are sorry for the inconvenience, however we can not change our policy for a customer. The customer is welcome to exchange for another car part or use the $813.75 as store credit, but once again we do not break our policy of a 30-day warranty. I am rejecting this response because: 1, what about the 9 days it took for me to receive parts from the buisness just so I am able to see if the engine I was sold was a "good working engine" as advertised, false advertisement. 34 days - 9 days= 25 days. 2, from what I was told by the employee Julio, no matter if it's 1 minute after you purchase a product from the buisness, "they don't do refunds here man," Julio. 3, what is going on with customer service from the employee to the manager/owner that will not respond to request for his attention after multiple request. I myself am active duty military 8 years and will seek further guidance to recieve further guidance from a JAG lawyer so I can reembursed for the non working engine I purchased for $813.75. Thank you for the inconvenience.

Dear [redacted], In regards to the complaint submitted on 6-4-2015 (ID assigned [redacted]). As stated in the earlier response (written 6-12-2015), the warranty will always stand were it is. A 30 –day warranty is given and there is no refund, only store-credit or exchange. It has been plainly stated in your copy of the receipt (refer to next page) and it is plainly stated on the front desk for every customer to see (picture on next page), as well as we make it our priority to verbally state to every customer our policy. There was no additional purchase of an extended warranty, which we do provide if the customer wanted that additional piece. Regarding the “manager/owner that will not respond” issue, Julio and I are hand in hand when it comes to statements being made and issues that need to be sorted. I would have stated the same response, “30-day warranty,” “store-credit or exchange only,” “no refunds after 30 days” etc. Julio is our manager; both I(the owner) and Julio are on the same page.In your first complaint, Mr. [redacted], you had stated that, “Notified business 229 May of engine purchase situation, 34 days from original purchase date,” our policy states a 30- day warranty (as I have stated several times) and though it has been passed the 30 days, we still honor our policy. Once a purchase has been made there are no refunds after the 30 days. The claim of “false advertisement” is greatly unappreciated. You had written, “engine sold to me was the 2X4, I needed 4x4 engine,” now the difference a 2X$ and a 4X4 engine would have been the oil pan, all that was needed was to switch oil pans, we sent the one from your original core (this was explained to you). There was no intention to falsely advertising anything, the basic engine on both types are the same; there must have been a slight mishap that could have been fixed. Our intentions are to never tell a customer something false, we do our best to make sure that information is given clearly and that customers know what they are getting. Mistakes happen; however in this case the problem and the solution have been explained to you and the oil pan from your original core was sent to you as soon as possible, knowing that you live 170 miles away.Thank you for your understanding and we hope that this complaint can be settled with ease.
