Marble America Corp. Reviews (2)

The worst customer service experience of my entire life. These people put a hole in my wall, then installed a cracked counter surface. When I asked them to fix it, they threatened to put a lien on my house!!

These people are [redacted] and very very ROUGH.

Stay away.

Review: We purchased approximately 600 square feet of Italian porcelain tile for several thousand dollars. Our contractor installed the floor, and within 5 months of installation, the tiles started to erode on the edges. The corrosion is creeping and involving more and more tiles. It 's obvious that this is a big problem. When we noticed the problem in February, we called the store , sent photos of the corrosion, and we were told by [redacted], that it would be resolved. We called and called, only to be promised that one of the [redacted] would be here to see it- somehow one of them was always in the hospital, so this never happened. None of the [redacted], from whom we purchased the tile, ever called or picked up the phone when we called. [redacted] wanted us to talk to the manufacturer's rep who was in Florida from Italy. She told us he would call on a particular day- he never did- then she suggested that we call him. Finally we refused, saying that marble America was the retail point of purchase and we didn't think we should be chasing middle men. We felt it was up to Marble America to settle with us and their responsibility to deal with their source. With purchase of over 600 sq feet of tile, installation, floor preparation, this cost us $23,000. We need a new floor installed now, so there will continue to be a big disruption of Quality of life here, in addition to the dirt and dust this will cause and did cause originally. We are asking for a full refund plus cleaning costs and the cost to compensate for the weeks of disruption to our quality of life going forward. Total includes $23,000 plus these additional expenses. They need to step up and have some integrity in dealing with this and us.Desired Settlement: We want a refund to include the total cost we paid them for installation and material, and additional costs associated with putting the floor down.( floor prep, custom saddles, moldings where damaged, removal of these tiles, clean up, etc.)

To whom it may concern;

I visited the [redacted]’s home last week. The material in question was sold to them in 2012. I have sold this material many times and have never had an issue with this before.

When we originally received the [redacted] call, I immediately called the supplier from Italy. They were surprised as they had never heard of this happening to their material prior to this. During this conversation it was agreed that they would send a US representative to the house. He will be in New York this Tuesday as promised and I will arrange to meet with him to inspect the [redacted] job.

Part of the history of this situation is that in 2013, a replacement order was placed for 126 SF, as the [redacted]’s weren’t happy with the initial install and wanted more than a 1/3rd of the tile replaced. We provided that material at a discounted rate at that time to the contractor as an effort to help satisfy an unhappy client. We have been in this location for 27 years and satisfying our clients in of paramount importance to us.

A few months after providing the replacement tiles we received a call that there was pitting & chipping in the tile. When I visited the home there was no pitting in the tile, just dirt that hadn’t been cleaned off. The chips on the edges of the tile were more pronounced because the grout was dirty. However, once I had cleaned their floor they were much less visible.

The client’s contractor had replaced a lot of the tiles in these areas. In the

process of removing floor tiles and replacing them you stand a chance to damage

the surrounding tiles. In the process of removing the one tile it is very likely that

the surrounding tiles around it will be affected by the removal. I went to the

powder room where none of the tiles were removed after being installed, and

there was not one chip in that area.

I am more than willing to help the [redacted]’s by providing them replacement tile

at a discounted rate (cost plus shipping and handling). However what has

happened to their home was not our fault, and the material is not to blame

either.

To continue my efforts to satisfy these past customers I will have the

representative look at the material installed so we can get their independent

evaluation of the situation.

Thank you,

Consumer

[redacted] keeps insisting that the group of tiles that were poorly installed here and the contractor agreed needed replacement is the reason for the cracks and corrosion at the edges of most of the tiles here. However there are chips and corrosion in a majority of the tiles that were never touched after initial installation. The contractor has seen and agrees the tiles are corroding in areas he did not replace.

[redacted] and her father NEVER offered to take back this flooring and sell us something different at a discount. This is the first we have read of this.

Today she brought a manufacturers rep here to look at the problem. We asked for his credentials via emails the day before his visit. We were told he would present his business card when he got here. He wanted to take photos in our home and we asked again for his card. He refused and we told him to leave.

the bottom line for us is that we believe a business that we have been sent to by our contractor should take responsibility and act in good faith to make this right. We don't want to purchase any additional material from Marble America because we now see what they do when there is a problem with something.

we ask for a refund in the full amount of what we paid for this 600 sq ft of tile plus payment for the removal of this damaged flooring and carting away of it all ,and reimbursement for installation of the cost of installation of any new material we purchase elsewhere.

Marble America can then take their financial losses up with the manufacturer from whom the purchased this expensive material, and have all of it tested at their leisure. We should not be dealing with testing and middlemen, etc. we wrote checks to Marble America and they are responsible for what they sold us which is now corroding under our feet.

we have a cleaning woman here regularly, we mop our for according to directions on the tile manufacturer's website a few times a week. We are senior citizens, both age 66 and our floor just doesn't get dirty enough EVER for dirt to embed itself into these tiles.

my husband is now in the Lenox Hill Hospital Emergency room from all this unnecessary aggravation. He has a [redacted].

As seniors, this is money that does'nt grow on trees. It took a lifetime of working to make enough money to upgrade our house and it is ethically wrong to be treated this way by a business we trusted enough to spend several thousand hard earned dollars with.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The material that was sold to the [redacted]’s is not defective. The representatice for the tile company [redacted] ([redacted]) went to the [redacted]’s to look at the tile and to see what happened. The minute we walked in, the [redacted]’s started yelling and screaming. They did not want to hear anything.

The material was bought in 2012. We did not do the installation (they had a contractor that did the job). The [redacted]’s complained that the tiles were installed poorly. It was uneven and some seemed to not be cemented properly. After 11 months, we ordered more material for the contractor. He removed 25 % of the tiles and reinstalled.

About 3 months later (Once the grout got dirty), they called the office to say that the tiles were chipped. This did not occur the first year it was installed, but after the tiles were reinstalled. The tiles installed with 1/16 grout line, and it is a rectified tile; once a tile is removed, it affects the four tiles around it.

We tried to explain what could have happened, but they don’t want to listen. They only want to believe that the tile is defective.

We have sold and installed this material so many times without any issues, problems or complains. We have only heard the positive feedback on this tile.

We offered to take one of their tiles and have tested by TCNA (Tile Council of North America). They refused to give us a tile to be tested from their actual lot. The TCNA can give more information about the tile. They have state of the art facilities to test porcelains. They can let us know about the material and its durability.

As I have stated before that we are willing to held the [redacted]’s resolve this problem. We recommend that they test the lot, as they can understand that it is not the material. We can help them by getting them the new material at cost.

Please call me if you have any questions. We would like to solve this issue as soon as possible

Best regards,

Consumer

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because: the entourage that came here was in our home for 20 minutes. In advance of the visit, with the so called manufacturer's rep, we requested his name, the office he works out of, and the contact information for him. We have emails we sent to this company the day before. Still he arrived with no I.D. And wanted to photograph in our home. My husband asked him AGAIN for ID and he didn't like that. We then asked him to leave. WE NEVER ASKED [redacted] OR HER FATHER TO LEAVE. They want to test a brand new tile and told us it would take another month and a half. We fail to understand why we have to be made responsible for figuring out what is wrong with the material. That is between Marble America and their supplier.

EVERYONE CAN SEE THESE CHIPS INCLDING [redacted], HER FATHER, THE CONTRACTOR AND THE INSTALLER! This is not in question! We have photos of our floor which continues to degrade IN AREAS WHERE THE TILES WERE NOT REPLACED AND WERE NOT NEAT REPLACED tiles.

Offering to sell us more is a slap in the face. They have not stood behind this material- why would we purchase anything more from them? They need to refund our money and other expenses, then we will be happy to leave these tiles in our driveway so they can haul them away and test all of them on their own time and settle with the manufacturer. SHAME ON THIS BUSINESS FOR PROVIDING ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE, FOR GIVING US THE RUN AROUND FOR 4 MONTHS BEFORE DRIVING 15 minutes from their store to our home to have a look at our floor.WE ARE NOT FINISHED WITH marble America.
