Marble & Granite Specialists Reviews (1)

Although G/S Marble and Granite was cheaper than the other installers we contacted this is a situation of you get what you pay for. Here is my experience:
We went to Mont Granite and picked out our slab not knowing we had to have our installer before even getting pricing. We had purchased a foreclosure and would be moving soon so we contacted a few referrals and a few people from expo shows we had gone to. We met [redacted] from GS at the convention center in Cleveland for the home show. He was very nice, very informative, and very professional and this continued until the time we signed the contract. He was always quick to respond by phone call and even send emails like he said he would. When I talked to him on the phone he knew we were kind of wanting to rush things and said that I could sign the contract early so we could get our slab down to Columbus and it would be ready to cut as soon as the measurements were in. He came the next day for me to sign it, Monday March 24. We had agreed on a discounted price because we said we would pay cash. He came to the home we were living in for me to sign the contract and give him the first payment, at this time I was having a garage sale at our home. I told him I had small bills I could give him in cash because of the sale or write him a check, he told me checks are the same as cash to him so I actually had my mother write him a check and gave her the small bills. At this point I was to call him when our kitchen was installed so he could come do a final measure (not just the estimate from the cabinet install). I called him that Friday, March 28 to tell him the kitchen was delivered and being installed that night, he didn’t answer so I left a vm. I received no call back. Saturday the 29th around 2:00 I called as I was driving out to our new home, this was moving day, and he answered. Said he was in the middle of something right then but would call me back afterward to check his schedule and let me know if Monday night or Tuesday morning would work to come do the install. Again he was willing to come out so quickly in order to get the process moving since we were already going to be living there. I never heard back from him. Monday the 31st I call him at 9:30 am and left a vm, I never hear back from him, at 4:30 pm I call again and his vm now says it is full. I call G/S in Columbus and speak with the owners wife who is quick to say she will call [redacted] and have him call me, rather than help me with the situation. 20 minutes later I call back because they are supposed to be closing at 5, it is 4:50, and [redacted] was supposed to be coming to measure that night. She tells me he will call me back and set an appointment for me for this week, this is of course not what we agreed on and he of course never calls me that night. The next morning at exactly 9:00 am he calls me, does not apologize for never calling back, and says he will be at my house within an hour ½ to measure. 10:30 goes by, 12:00 goes by, and finally at 1:30 I call him to see what is going on. He is rude to me as if I have bothered him by even calling him and must not think that 3 hours late for an appointment is a problem. He tells me he is 6 miles away, another ½ hour later he finally shows up and of course says nothing about how late he is. I have a 4 month old who has to take naps and I am breastfeeding so having someone who cannot stick to an appointment or even call to let me know they will be late just doesn’t work for me. He measures and does another contract with me because he says it is actually 4 sq feet larger than the original contract. He puts a total amount (before the discount) but then reflects the discount in the last 2 payments we have to make to him. While he is at our house we talk about remnants and I ask him to measure our upstairs bathroom and give me a price on that install also. He says he will email me pictures of the remnants so we can choose one. He never emails me, I call him about it, and he never calls me back. The following Monday, one day away from a week later, I call him to see what is going on since I still never received an email or any other info after he left. He says “I was needing to call you, I am going to have to come remeasure once your sink is in” so I tell him the sink is in, also tell him I am a little confused because he said our granite would be installed within a week to a week ½ during the first measure and now it is a week later and he has to come remeasure and start all over. He of course can’t come for a couple days. We set an appointment. An hour ½ after that appointment was supposed to happen I call him, he doesn’t answer. He finally calls me back and tells me he wrote it in his planner wrong and can’t make it our appointment now. We set an appointment for the next day. He actually shows up on time. He remeasures, I bring up the pictures for the bathrooms again, he gives me pricing on both bathrooms and then gives me another contract that shows the 2 bathrooms being an extra $1055 added on to our final payment that we would just pay when they install it. While he is over he also tells me “you know sometimes things come up and I don’t answer my phone while I am with customers”….that makes sense but not when you are hours late to every appointment. I get his email, and choose a remnant for our bathroom that night like I tell him I would. He tells me that they are going to hurry and get my order ready because of the issues we have had (our slab was sent to Mont Granite in Columbus at some point during all this, but wasn’t tagged properly and so it was sent back to Cleveland Mont Granite. So during this appointment [redacted] said our slab was on its way back down to Columbus and would be there by the time he got the measurements to them) and that I will have my granite installed early next week. A week later on Monday I get a call around 3:00 saying they want to install my granite the next morning. This is too short of notice and I have picked up a shift at work but tell her I am available any other day, but she tells me they are not. She then says she will call me back in a few minutes but never does. Since I had to work anyways I actually waited until Wednesday to call back. I spoke with the owner [redacted] about this; he says he can’t give me an appointment yet because he doesn’t have his schedule made for next week yet. I tell him I need to know a day because I have to make an appointment for my son to go to the doctors as well as some other things. So he ends up telling me they can come on Wednesday April 24, so I make my sons dr. appointment for Thursday. On Tuesday night he calls me and says he needs to reschedule because his daughter is having surgery and he will come Thursday instead. Although I have sympathy for anyone’s child having surgery I do not understand how he didn’t know before the evening before our install. I have my mom plan to come in from Geneva to stay at the house while I take my son to his appointment rather than reschedule. Thursday morning I receive a call from the owner’s son that he is on his way to Ashland where the truck that was bringing our granite had a tire pop and ran off the road and they could no longer do the install for us that day. I ask him if they have another truck because we had no running faucets in the house since they were doing both bathrooms and the kitchen. He says they do not have another truck but he will call me back about whether or not they can install that day, he ends up calling me back saying the owner told him they will still be doing the install. They come at 4:15 to install the granite. I stay in my son’s bedroom with him because he had just had shots during the day and I didn’t want him being around the smell of the sealant. I give my husband the signed info from [redacted] for how much we owe in case they tell him it costs more. They of course tell him it costs more than it should and even though he shows them the paper the installer, who also happens to be the owner, tells him he doesn’t know why it’s different but his amount is right. Getting nowhere, my husband pays him for his invoice. After he tells me this I immediately call to question in, he does not answer of course. I call the number listed on the invoice and speak with the owner’s wife. She tells me this is an issue with [redacted] and even though she saw her invoice was higher than his she doesn’t know why but hers is right. She calls him and talks to him and calls me back telling me I am wrong about the amount. Having a conversation with her is like talking to a brick wall because she never lets you speak and spends the entire time speaking over you every time you open your mouth. I try calling [redacted] twice that night and leave two voicemails as well as once the next morning and I have still not heard back from him. The owners wife, I don’t even remember her name, tells me she will call me in the morning and we can discuss it. When I finally speak with her we spend 30 minutes on the phone as I am trying to tell her which numbers to add together and to tell me what that total is so she can see how her invoice is wrong. She kept arguing with me and ends up seeing that her numbers were wrong after way too much explaining. The issue was in fact with Randy because by the 3rd contract he wasn’t showing the discount, but with some basic math it was easy to see the error and shouldn’t have been so difficult to correct. However, in the end after she sees the error she tells me that I wasn’t getting the discount because I didn’t actually pay cash I paid with a check, and I said if that is an issue she needs to speak with [redacted] because he is the one who literally said “check is the same as cash to me”. She did what she could to try and insult me at the end of the conversation and even went on to say this is dumb to be arguing about and why would I want to be worrying about that when I have a baby (because she could hear him talking as we were on the phone). Well that is correct I don’t want to be worrying about it but I also shouldn’t just pay more because no one at GS knows how to do math.
We end the phone conversation with her saying that someone from their company will come to our house and give me my old check, a corrected invoice and I can give them a new check for the correct amount as well as they will get their tool and check the seal on the bathroom sink (there is sealant between the counter and the backsplash behind both sinks but for some reason there isn’t any in the middle of the two sinks). I am POSITIVE the only reason they were coming to fix the sink is because I had their tool. She said they would come the next day. The next day at 1:30 I ask what time someone will be here because we were waiting to do the tile in that bathroom until after they came because once its down you cant walk on it. She then tells me they cant come that day anymore but they will come the next day (Sunday) and I said they couldn’t because we had to get the tile done over the weekend and they couldn’t walk on it to fix the sink. I tell them someone can come Tuesday or any other day and so they told me they would call me next time someone is in the area but they weren’t sure what day it would be. Randomly someone just shows up on Sunday without a phone call and even though I told them they couldn’t come on Sunday. I’m not surprised.
The caulking around the granite is sloppy, the wall around the counter is messed up, as I mentioned the seal was not completed in the one bathroom, the silicone/caulking got on our brand new kitchen counters and they didn’t even try and clean it up.
I would not recommend this company to even my worst enemy.
