STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! DISHONEST! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! DISHONEST! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
I rarely write reviews, but by principal feel compelled to help others avoid the dishonesty and bait and switch tactics I experienced when dealing with Marco Polo Imports.
A few years ago, my wife and I bought an outdoor sectional and were told the fabric was Sunbrella and under warranty. When the fabric severely deteriorated within a couple years, we contacted Marco Polo and were told by the owner, Aaron T[redacted], they had been misinformed by the manufacturer and the fabric was not Sunbrella. Still, to help us out, they said they would cover the cost of labor to reupholster the pieces if we covered the cost of fabric.
Initially, we were quoted in writing the fabric would cost between $19-39/yd. Yet when my wife went to the store to select fabric, the salesman said the least expensive price would be $59/yd. When she showed him the original quote, he offered to cover the fabric she selected at his 'cost' ($39).
We also paid to rush the fabric since we were assured the order would be complete by Aug 25th. Most of the order arrived on the 28th and over a week later, we're still waiting on pillows.
Several times, she asked Aaron for the name/number of the fabric selected since she wished to do a price check online. No one responded. After picking up the initial pieces, we discovered the fabric we paid $39/yd was selling everywhere else for $21/yd.
When I went to the store and confronted Aaron, he said he that $39 a yard was HIS cost and he would send us an invoice from his distributor of 15 years. When the doctored invoice came, I looked up the distributor's correct price list online, and it also reflected half the price Aaron charged us. (And since Aaron promised us fabric at his 'cost', that number should've been even lower to reflect a wholesale price).
So essentially, Aaron built the price of his labor into the cost of the fabric. He NEVER intended to take care of us. And furthermore, I believe he knew full well he initially sold us a product with substandard fabric that was clearly NOT Sunbrella.
Again, I confronted Aaron with the blatant discrepancy and gave him another chance to rectify the situation with an appropriate price adjustment. He offered no explanation (or response) and we have yet to receive a refund for the rushed order.
I'm hoping by writing this that others won't be duped like we were... TWICE. I believe that Marco Polo's Philosophy as stated on their website: A Furniture Store for Those Seeking Quality, Experience, and Satisfaction, is a sham. And I also believe that if allowed, they will take advantage of the uninformed customer.
