This reply is to a complaint filed by [redacted] and his wife, [redacted] came into my office as a referral from another client on February 27, 2016. We went over the information that they brought into the initial meeting as well as some questions as to possible deductions they were informed...

that they were allowed to take on their tax return, like a home office deduction for each of them. It was brought up that they thought they could write off the mileage of going to and from work, especially [redacted] as he hauled his tools in his vehicle. I explained to them that during this time of the year that tax advice was rather free and rampant, and that you got exactly what you paid for as this advice was not true, Both are W-2 employees and as such they were not allowed a home office deduction and mileage deductions in their situation.  [redacted] did not inform me at this meeting that we were not a good fit for them as they left all of their paper work with me as I do have copies of it and gave back them their originals when [redacted] came into pickup their taxes when they were done. I called them and informed them that their taxes were done. [redacted] called me on March 16, 2016 and asked what the fee was for preparing their taxes which I informed her was $175.00 as I had to do an out-of-state tax return for Michigan, my original quote was for $150.00. [redacted] came into my office on March 17, 2016 and picked-up the taxes and informed me that she forgot her checkbook, how nice for them. My gut feeling was good luck collecting on this. I informed [redacted] at that time that I needed a signed engagement letter back as wells as a signed Form 8879 "IRS e-file Signature Authorization for Form 1040", I included a copy of my bill also. I never heard back from them and on April 18,2016 I filed a timely election to extend their tax return as I did not want them to get in trouble for not extending their return. I subsequently sent them a new billing in May 2016 and informed them if the bill was not paid that I was going to turn it over for collections. My collections procedure is to take them to small claims court and not informing the credit bureaus. The five additional forms [redacted] was referring to in his complaint has to do with the extensions for federal and state, at no extra charge on my part. This is my explanation of what happened as to the exchanges between us. I will leave it in your hands as to what you think the real story is. Thank you for informing of this matter.
