Margaret's Movers and Storage Reviews (30)

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. When the move happened I contacted Olivia 're the damage to the furniture that makes it hard to unpack my belongings.  I asked that someone to come out and see the damage and have the damage fixed, not including other damage that I found.  In other words only fix the furniture that is so damaged that I can not unpack.  I was told that they would not do this. I asked to speak with the owner, I was told she is too busy to talk to me.  I have the same issues - of course I will file a claim with the company - but their attitude 're customer service is dismal. Based on their attitude I am considering hiring a lawyer to sue them to the hardship I am having due their lack of customer service.

When the move was scheduled, it was for a move from [redacted] to [redacted]. When we arrived the refrigerator that was supposed to go to [redacted] was filthy and full of food. We informed the shipper that we could not move the refrigerator with items in it and being dirty. A week later the...

shipper’s daughter contacted me to move the refrigerator. After communication back and forth, I discovered that they wanted the refrigerator in [redacted] brought back to [redacted] as well. This was never originally ordered. I told her that we could do this for $100 only if we were going to [redacted] for another move. We agreed to do so the following Friday. When the crew left the warehouse, I called the shipper. He told me that he was in [redacted] and Taprana would be waiting for us there. When we arrived the door that the new tenants instructed us to take the refrigerator through was a rear door which led into a gated/fenced back yard. The shipper had the only key. Via the telephone he told my crew that he was only a few minutes away and they should wait there. When my crew informed me of this, I knew the shipper was not being honest, as I had hung up with him only moments before and he told me he was waiting for them in [redacted]. I instructed the crew to leave for their previously scheduled move. After this the shipper’s daughter contacted me again asking when we would be moving the refrigerator or she would be contacting the Revdex.com. I told her that at this point it would be prudent for her to find another mover to handle the refrigerator.

We never received payment for moving the refrigerator therefore there is no refund warranted. I feel that we made 2 attempts to move this refrigerator to no avail and am confident that they can locate a mover who can work within their parameters and conditions. We are very sorry that we could not move the item. Moving is what we do, so we have no intention on arriving and not moving the items.

We wish them a heartfelt good luck in their future endeavors.

Response:
We have read the complaint and again, we are sorry for the mishap that caused the lamp to be broken. However, we do reiterate the following points. 1. By their own admission, we were not taking the lamp in the move. However this PRICELESS lamp was left sitting on furniture that we were...

moving. The school of thought on this is that if it was so valuable, it should have been boxed or put in a secure area not left in a room with movers who were instructed that it was not to go on the truck but that they were to take the furniture it was sitting on. 2. The worker did not use reckless abandonment. Moving large headboards etc requires the area to be clear and free from encumbrances. 3. We have many years processing claims. Our industry generally has a self-pay policy when a claim is filed and utilizes insurance for large claims. I did consult with my board of directors, my insurance agent as well as our insurance company adjuster. The claim for the lamp was processed per the standard $.60/lb per item. Full coverage protection was not purchased. At this time, sentimental value is only considered in extreme cases in the court system, therefore courts award fair market value to include age and deprecation. In moving, claims are processed at released value which is $.60/lb. 4. I empathize with the [redacted]’s distress at the situation. Having 1 child, I save every finger painting, clay sculpture and sometimes homework assignments. But they only have value to me. They are priceless to me. I could not sell her finger painting for $5000. We thank you for the opportunity to provide clarification regarding claims procedures.

To date, a claim form has not been received by our company. I am sending it again, through the Revdex.com, to see if this can be completed so that we can resolve any open issues. I have repeated asked what the customer wants to resolve issues and am told that I have not resolved issues after not being told what is desired. Please fill out the claim form and return to us via email at [redacted] or mail at [redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I understand that the sod can't be laid at this time due to the snow.  Previously, at the time I called it was a two week period where we had good weather.  My builder laid the sod in December.  I would prefer to keep this case open until the weather improves and the sod can be laid because I don't trust that they will complete this task.  After their last response to the complaint, I called them to schedule this task and I spoke to "[redacted]".  He was extremely rude and was quick to tell me they weren't going to do anything for for me since I called the Revdex.com.  After he hung up on me I called [redacted]'s Moving back and was unable to speak with [redacted] but left a message to call me.  To date, no one from [redacted]'s has ever returned any of my phone calls.

They were never given the wrong address, plus were provided with my phone number to call which they never did.  Had it been done timely there was ample time to lay sod.  They did come out and "dump" dirt and never smoothed it out.  We have tried to do some of that on our own.  They didn't  drive on a vacant lot, it was our yard with new sod laid in December.  They also new our address as they were here once before.  I was told after they dumped off the dirt in piles that they would be back to lay sod and bring more dirt.  They didnt lay any dirt until after I filed a complaint with your office becaise they wouldnt respond to my phone calls.  That hasn't occurred yet and I expect sod to be laid   once snow is gone as I was told they would do.  This won't be resolved until they replace the sod they damaged.

Response:MOVE DATE WAS 12/23 PER THE CUSTOMER'S ADMISSION & OUR RECORDS. RUTS NEXT TO VACANT LOT WAS REPAIRED ON 1/18/16. THE BARRIERS WERE THAT THE ADDRESS GIVEN WAS INCORRECT AND BEING A NEW HOME WAS NOT ON GPS. FURTHER, THE SNOW AND WEATHER WILL NOT ALLOW FOR SOD TO GROW AND BEING FROZEN WILL...

NOT ALLOW FOR ADDITIONAL "SMOOTHING" . WE DID FILL HOLES AND WENT BACK TO SEE HOW IT WAS SETTLING. THE HOMEOWNER HAS DRIVEN OVER THE DIRT WE LAYED DOWN. IF SHE DOES WANT US TO COME BACK OUT WHEN THE GROUND FREEZES, WE WOULD BE HAPPY TO DO SO. WE WERE NEVER TRYING TO AVOID REPAIRING THE RUTS OFF THE SIDE OF THE DRIVEWAY, HOWEVER WERE HINDERED WITH THE HOLIDAYS, SNOW, LACK OF CORRECT ADDRESS & DIRECTIONS AND FROZEN GROUND. THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS AND AGAIN, LET US KNOW ONCE THE GROUND THAWS IF WE NEED TO ADDRESS FURTHER. [redacted]Sent on: 1/22/2016 10:58:20 AM

[redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Had the company honored its original agreement, issues regarding rescheduling would be moot. As the client, I adhered to all of my obligations and just want the company to do the same. Had it been an innocent error, a reputable company would do all it could to handle the issue as soon as possible, rather than texting several days after the scheduled move to advise they could not accommodate us any time ' in the foreseeable future'.

Thank you for the opportunity to address your concerns. We received the pictures today and we are working through the concerns raised. Once we receive the claim form, we will process the claim per the coverage selected. Again, thank you for allowing us to work through the claim process with you.

Regards,
[redacted]  They never informed me that the call to move the furniture back (again, they referred to it as a couch) was a courtesy.  Seems they're covering their [redacted].  When I initially called, I explicitly asked if the $125 covered both the move to and from said room.  I was told "yes."  You didn't send a truck to move the furniture either; just two movers.  I'm not really that upset with the money; its  more the way in which I was treated by "[redacted]."  Very disrespectful and rude.

The initial scope of the job you requested and the corresponding estimate you received was to load your items, allow them to sit for a day or two on the trucks, and then unload them. The estimate you received was for the estimated labor hours and supplies needed to accomplish that order of service....

On the day of the move you informed us that the items would not be delivered in a day or two, but instead would need to be stored for an extended amount of time before they were delivered. Logically, to load trucks and unload them into storage and then load them again for delivery would require significantly more labor that what was initially estimated. It is in essence two separate moves. To compare the final total cost to the estimate is not fair or accurate. You were estimated for a service and then requested different and additional services. As would be with any local move we perform, you were billed for the labor hours needed to complete the work you requested. By your own admittance you were quoted $3,700. If you follow the line of thought that the services you requested were in fact for two separate, full moves AND you want to link those services to the initial quote then the total should have been somewhere around $7,400 meaning we would have been significantly below the estimate. And, in actuality, you were provided a month of storage at no cost as well. It would be impossible to refund the difference of the estimate and the final total because the actual services provided were not the services estimated. The services you requested were the services provided and billed accordingly. Sent on: 10/6/2015 2:29:05 PM

They never mentioned that there would be no coverage on anything and my complete set is still ruined.  The type of material a piece of furniture is built of does not justify destroying it.  It was in good condition, now the set is incomplete.  Margaret's is just trying to avoid making right what they did wrong.  The glass doors were shattered and they weren't made of pressboard. This company should go out of business if this is the way they treat their customers.  They do not want to take responsibility for their own destruction of a customer's furniture.

Response:The cabinet, which is pressboard is not covered at all by any movers, it is specifically excluded and states so on our quotes, confirmations and contracts. We attempted to get it repaired however due to it being pressboard, our vendor rejected it. We have sent the customer a settlement in...

the amount of $50 even though it should not be covered at all. We do have the cabinet and if they would like it returned to them, we can do so and they can attempt to repair. We have settled the claim significantly past our legal obligation out of concern for our customer. We can further assist by returning the cabinet and the customer can do with it as they choose.Sent on: 3/28/2016 1:21:55 PM

Response:I am very sorry that you are displeased. The information given was that we were moving the item between rooms and was $125. As a practice, we NEVER charge in advance for moving services. Therefore the charge for $125 was for move day 3/26/16 only. Further a price of $62.50 to come with 2 or...

more men would never be a price point we could support and therefore quote. If there is evidence that proves this to be inaccurate, I would be glad to honor it. However based on both of the above policies, I cannot make a change to the charges. We did attempt to move the item back as a courtesy, however we were informed that it was already moved. We thank you for your business and we hope that the above evidence is acceptable.Sent on: 5/10/2016 3:00:10 PM

The claim was processed per the terms and provision of the released value coverage limits.
The above is how the claim would process for under the terms. To make is simple, the small personal items, we did not pack. I have not received a picture of a box that we caused trauma to, therefore they would all be denied. The refrigerator we did not move and there is no evidence that we did the damage.
Since you are a repeat customer, I will make the following exceptions and processed at the claimed amount.

We would be glad to reimburse the cost of the hinge. This is the 1st time we have received any amount for reimbursement. We are glad to be able to close the claim.
Thank you!

We turned this claim over to the insurance company who did their own investigation. The adjudication was sent to Ms. [redacted]. If she has not received it, I can have the insurance company resend.Thank you,[redacted]

Thank you for your email. The shipper was already sent a letter explaining that a contractor was assigned to repair his wall. Apparently with all the construction in Louisville they are short staffed and did not perform the repair. I sent a letter to the carrier that we will pay him his requested...

(however overpriced) repair fees of $2258.00. The check was already sent from bookkeeping earlier this week [redacted] in the amount of $2258.00 and been cashed.   The shipper responded that he received my information and would let you know when he received the check. Although I have not heard from him, the check has been cashed.  We apologize for the delay however we cannot control the workload of outside vendors.   If there is any more information needed to satisfy this issues, I will be glad to assist.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. It plainly states on the contract upon completion I am to sign off that I accept the condition of items moved, that was never done. It was not done because at no time did I know the movers were complete. To say I offered a mover a beer is a bold faced lie and can prove it, the gentleman asked for a drink I gave him a water and then he asked for a beer which I did give him as I thought again they were going to do as promised and finish the job. Instead they left, I have attached 3 photo's of items damaged or destroyed. The desk had to be placed out for garbage pick up, [redacted] states that it's pressed wood and not made to be moved and I was warned prior to moving. At no time was I warned about anything, if it wasn't made to be moved then leave it and we would have moved and not destroyed a perfectly good desk. The 4th photo is of a mover carrying our dining room table out the door all by himself, sloppy and why many items were damaged. She keeps asking me what I want, well I wanted a smooth move with nothing damaged, instead I have many items damaged and her not offering to try and make this right after repeated promises she would. This isn't my business but when a consumer pays over $600 for a move and would have paid more to have the work completed and then to provide photos of the damage underscores the type of service she provides. Obviously I'd like to be compensated for her and her teams shortcomings as I didn't ask for all this. Thank you very much for your attention to this matter.
Regards,
