I requested an estimate for basement waterproofing. Dave B[redacted], the estimator, came out, was very nice and told me what was needed. He then sent me a VERY vague "agreement" to sign before work would start. I emailed him stating that I had questions - no response, so I called the office and left a message for him to call me - no response again. Emailed again and got a 1-word response which was, "What?". We then connected via phone, in which conversation I told him that I wanted additional work done, and he was a little rude. I never heard from this company again . . . I guess they have too much business.

Review: During July 2011 I had Mariani & Richards repoint and waterproof my chimney. The job was done professionally and looked good, and was told this job would last my lifetime. Well, after 3 years, several of the mortar joints have lost their mortar and the rest appear to be on their way to failing. I have contacted the company by phone 4 times within the past month and the secretary tells me the person in charge of my project([redacted]) will contact me, but each day that I call and he supposed to return my call he never does. I also requested to speak to his superior and was told by the secretary that the company president [redacted] would contact me personally that day(July 14, 2014) and never did. It has been several days since the last telephone call and no response. It appears the secretary is well trained in giving anyone with a problem of past work the run around and is good at stalling tactics. The management appears to no nothing of customer service or how to address warranty problems. I would no recommend these people to do any future work for me or anyone.Desired Settlement: I would like to have the failed joints repaired and waterproofed as originally agreed upon. Just stand behind your work thats all.

The contract with Mr. [redacted] was completed according to the written scope of work to the two chimneys.

The damaged area of mortar joints on the chimneys were originally fully cut out and pointed as can be seen in the enclosed photo.

The damage to the joints may have occurred for many reasons including water damage on the inside of the chimney or freeze thaw cycles during the past winters which have been particularly severe.

The waterproofing sealer that was applied to the exterior of both chimneys only has a usable lifespan of two to five years before re-application is required. This is depending on weather conditions and other factors.

There are no warranties, written or implied, concerning the pointing work or sealant application.
