It is our professional and moral obligation to inform patients of their dental condition, the course of treatment which, in our professional opinion, will best address the condition and the risk to dental and overall health if left untreated Due to the findings of our examination it was determined that Mr*** was not a candidate for the adult prophylaxis that is covered in full by his insurance carrier However, as a gesture of customer service we provided a periodontal cleaning at no cost to Mr***
Regarding Mr***’s concern with the coverage for the x-rays that were taken, while we consider these x-rays a necessary part of a comprehensive examination Mr*** has not and will not be billed for these x-rays
In closing, while we understand Mr*** would prefer to only receive the cleaning covered at one hundred percent (100%) by his insurance carrier; we have a professional and moral obligation to inform patients regarding the presence of periodontal disease and offer the course of treatment which, in our professional option, will best address the disease While the periodontal disease process can be frightening to a patient we are non-the-less responsible to explain the risk associated with non-treatment Given Mr***’s concerns we offered a periodontal cleaning at no cost to him as a gesture of customer serviceFinally, Mr*** was not charged for the x-rays performed by our office Mr*** is welcome to contact our
office for further clarification of his treatment diagnoses and recommendations
