My office made an appointment for A[redacted], birth date 10/02/2000, at the request of her mother, S[redacted], for September 21, 2016. The appointment was scheduled for 3 o'clock for a consultation and nerve conduction studies. At the time the appointment was made there was no mention made by...

S[redacted] about any car issues and a need to call back and confirm the appointment. In fact, the day prior to the consultation and nerve conduction studies, my secretary confirmed the appointment with S[redacted] by phone and typically would have included in her confirmation that there is a fee for failure to show. Neither S[redacted] or her daughter showed up for the appointment. A bill for $85 was sent to S[redacted]. On October 5 S[redacted] called claiming that she was a single mom living with her parents and could not afford the $85. She then stated that she had called and canceled the appointment. She did not and we have documented the confirmation of the appointment from the day before. The fact that she claimed to have cancelled the appointment indicates that she did make the appointment in the first place, a major point she disputes in her complaint to you. She wanted to reschedule for another time, My secretary informed her that we would reschedule the appointment once the failed appointment fee was paid,One of the biggest challenges a physician in practice faces is patients failing to show for appointments. I feel it is reasonable if a patient blocks off my time to be compensated at least in part for that time, 1 feel it is also important that patients are taught that making an appointment with a doctor is not to be taken frivolously and that simply not showing up for the appointment without a reasonable excuse is not acceptable.Sincerely,M[redacted], MD
