Mark & Sons Auto Center Reviews (%countItem)

I took my car to Mark and Sons after speaking with the owner Mark. I knew I had a bad oil leak and that I also needed an oil change. I told Mark about this and to call me before making any repairs as I'm short on money currently. Mark called in about 40 mins and said my oil leak was from the valve gasket on top of the engine. I authorized the repair and told him the oil and filter were in my car for the oil change. I called a bit later and his mechanic Shannon told me my car would be ready in about a half hour. I paid 176.00 and was driving my car home when my engine suddenly began making a terrible noise and my oil light came on. I pulled over and called Mark. His mechanic got a hold of him and he came to the roadside. He told me it would work itself out and to carry on driving it. He also stated his mechanic cleaned a bunch of debris from the gasket area with the best of intentions but probably shouldn't have. Mark worked on diagnostics. He called me a liar on the next call saying my oil light must've been on for a long time. He was very aggressive and mean. My oil light was never on. He then stated my oil filter was plugged with silicone pieces from seal ring around oil pan and that whoever replaced it did a bad job. My oil pan has never been removed. He said the plugged filter starved the car for oil. He kept my car 3 days. He then called and said I should've been honest with him and if I don't tell the truth I'm going to pay a huge bill. I was honest with this man from the first word. He cursed and yelled at me and I was too frightened to go alone to pick up my car. I took my son in law and Pastor. He refused to talk to me but talked about me to the men. He said paying 212.50 more was a huge discount to me because I said I was short on cash. That he's my friend and gave me a great deal. I have pictures of the gasket and I have original oil filter pulled off car that it went in with. This is the craziest, scariest thing I've ever dealt with concerning a business. I was treated horribly!!

Dear Mr.:

I have received your letter regarding the complaint filed by Ms. ***. First of all, I would like Ms.to know how sorry we are that she left our establishment feeling she had been mistreated. I have been in businessfor 45 years and I pride myself in the reputation I have earned as a honest and fair business man who has theupmost respect for my clients. It is never my intention or the intention of my employees to be demeaning ordisrespectful.

That being said, I do not feel that Ms. was honest in her accounting of the events surrounding the repair ofher vehicle. She brought her vehicle along with her own parts into my business requesting an oil change. I noticedthat according to the sticker in her window, she was not yet due for an oil change but we completed the oil changeas requested. In completing the oil change, we found that she had an oil leak and asked her if she wanted us to findthe source and fix it. She agreed. We found her valve cover gaskets to be leaking. We replaced the gasket, repairing the leak, drained the oil and replaced the oil filter. We then filled her car with oil. She paid for theseservices and left. She called later saying that her oil light came on and the engine was making noise. I personallydrove out to where she was to see what was wrong. I checked her oil level and found the oil level to be fine. I toldher there may be other issues such as an oil pump going out or a sending unit malfunctioning that caused her oillight to come on. I told her the noise could be caused by several issues such as a sticky lifter. I told her she couldbring her vehicle back to my shop so we could look at it or she could continue driving it and hope the noise resolved(if it was a sticky lifter). She called later saying it was still making noise and that “it has never done this before.” Ihad her bring her vehicle back in so we could make sure the repair we had done was correct. We took apart theupper plenum work (valve cover gasket) and found the gasket to be in perfect order and showing no oil leaks. Thisis the only area of her vehicle that we worked on. We were perplexed at how this vehicle “never did this before”but nothing we had touched/repaired was malfunctioning. We decided to then see if she was having other issueswith her vehicle beginning with the oil pump. We removed the oil pan to get to the oil pump and discovered thepick-up tube (which sucks up oil from the oil pan into the oil pump) was completely blocked by strands of silicone. We found the same types of silicone strands on the edges of the oil pan. These strands of silicone were bound uptight in the pick-up tube not allowing any oil flow. We removed these strands of silicone and scraped the oil panclean of silicone debris. We reinstalled the pick-up tube, resealed the oil pan, and refilled her vehicle with oil. Westarted her motor and checked the oil pressure. The vehicle ran smoothly and there was no engine noise. Weadvised Ms. of what we had found. I explained to her that I found it strange that with the amount of oilblockage those stands caused that she had not been experiencing problems before that moment. That is when shebecame hostile and said, “are you calling me a liar?”

Nothing that we did could have caused this issue. It was a separate and independent problem for which we spenthours of diagnosis and repair time to fix. She had mentioned to me that she had limited financial means. I did notcharge her for the many hours of diagnosis time, but I do think that we are entitled to be paid something for thediagnosis and repair of an issue that we did not cause and was separate from the issue we first dealt with. We gaveher an incredible break on the charges and in truth saved her motor from seizing up. Her issue was caused bysilicone strands breaking free from the oil pan and being sucked up into the oil pump. This is nothing we causedand we do not feel we owe Ms. a refund. We worked hard and spent much time to diagnose, repair, andeffectually SAVE her motor.

Ms. also failed to mention that I personally drove her home and then later picked her up from her homewhich I did not charge her for.

We took pictures of all the pieces we found in her oil pump pick-up tube which we showed her and her pastor andthe other gentleman she brought with her. She walked away from the conversation when I was explaining whathappened and left me to discuss it with her friends. We have included those pictures for your review as well.Mark & Sons Auto Center has a reputation for going above and beyond to help our customers, to be fair and honestin our business dealings, and to be courteous. We feel that we provided all of the above to Ms..

I have not taken my car into a shop to have the oil changed in years. I do it at home. There is the first lie by Mark. You can't notice a sticker that was not there. Mark did take me home but did not pick me up from my home. He did call to complain that he was tired and I was taking too long to collect my car at noon on a Monday. I did not become hostile with him. He accused me of lying and that I was going to pay a big bill for lying. I kept repeating how much do I owe you while he tried yelling over me that I was lying. I didn't want him to be able to change the amount by the time I got there. Mark told me it was from the oil pan seal and when did I have it changed out. It never has been changed and that's when he became hostile and threatening with me. He told me he left while his mechanic changed the gasket and that the mechanic wiped down everything around the gasket. In the image previously attached you can see it appears those are pieces of the gasket that got stuck by being wiped into engine. Mark even said shannon shouldn't have wiped it down but did it with the best of intentions. This isn't even about a refund. This is about this not happening to others.
