Review: I explained the job - erecting a handicap parking sign on a standard metal post used for street signs. Need a safe way to drive post into the ground. They called it a "stake pounder". Was given a tool, paid for the rental, drove back to job site. The tool they gave me would not fit around the post because the diameter of the rental stake pounder they gave me was only approx 2" while a standard sign post is over approx 3". Drove back to the rental center in less than 1/2 hour from the time I left their store with the tool. Told them it was not the right tool because it wouldn't work, as it was not for a standard sign post, and asked for a larger diameter tool. They said it was the only one they rented. They said there would be no refund as their policy was once you walk out the door there is no refund. I explained that I rented it because they said it was the right tool that would do the job. I didn't pick it out, I told them what I needed and they went and got the tool that they said would work. When I told them it wouldn't work they said there's nothing wrong with the tool, it just wouldn't work for what I needed to do. Exactly my point - you rented me the wrong tool, I did not/could not use it, brought it right back to get the right tool which they did not have, and now I wanted a refund. The fact is that they rented me the the wrong tool for $19.14 and it would not do what they said it would do - fit a standard metal street sign pole. I went down the road to the next rental place and rented the correct tool for only $6.38. It's bad enough that Taylor Rental charges exactly 3 times what the other rental place charges, but to have to pay 3 times as much for a tool that they gave me that could not possibly do what they said it would, is to say the least practically unbelievable. As a result of their hostility, I have spoken to Taylor Rental's parent company headquarters, Tru-Value in Chicago, attained an attorney, will speak to newspapers and television news. This is not about the money!

A refund of $19.14, or even an in-store credit for a future rental.

Customer choose the tool, examined it for his purposes, and rented it. Our rentals are for time out, not time used. The tool rented was the correct tool for the job as described. That description was provided by the renter, and the counter person responded correctly for what was requested. Thre was no hostility on the part of our employee, just enforcement of store policy which the renter disagreed with. While we regret he was not satisfied with his experience, the choice to rent the tool in question was his alone, and he should have been aware of the neds of his job situation.

I expected nothing less than the pack of lies included in the response from Taylor Rental. Their reply just goes to prove what a bad business they are. Their first sentence is "Customer chose the tool, examined it for his purposes, and rented it". This is certainly an out and out lie, and they know it. The truth is that after I explained what I needed (because I did not know what it was called), the clerk could not find it in his computer because HE didn't know what it was called either. After a while, the other man (Manager?) came out of the office, and between the both of them, they called it a "Stake Pounder". Then he went to a side wall and came back with a tool and said "this is what you want" Again, I did not choose the tool, nor did I examine the tool as they have claimed. Their response goes on to lie about "The tool rented was the correct tool for the job as described". Did they not read the complaint? - did they not understand why it was immediately returned? - did they not believe that they gave me the wrong tool? The counter person DID NOT respond correctly for what was requested, because if he had, the tool would have worked! Their response goes on to say "the choice to rent the tool in question was his alone" The tool was rented because I was told it was the right tool for the job! Their response ends with "he should have been aware of the needs of his job situation". I was aware, and explained it in great detail. Maybe they should have been aware of what limitations their so called "Stake Pounder" had, such as it was impossible to use it for what I explained to them I needed it to do. To claim that their "so-called contract" says that I agree that no fitness for a particular purpose has been made in connection with the equipment rented" is another lie. They will not rent you anything unless you sign it, even if the only reason you rent an item is solely based on their declaration that it is the correct tool! It becomes so much a deceptive practice that it is only compounded by the ability to deal with the next rental place down the line and get the right item, better service, friendlier, and certainly with more knowledge and at 1/3rd the price! It appears that these people at this Taylor Rental think that they can get away with renting the wrong item to a customer without any consequences whatsoever. The assurance of the suitability of a tool is a pretty significant reason why a customer rents from them in the first place. I wonder how many times they have gotten away with what they are doing. There has been nobody I've talked to that says that a business should be allowed to get away with this!

At the request of the Revdex.com I have delayed the stories to the newspapers and television and an attorney is still on retainer - so go ahead - make my day!

Business Response /* (4000, 13, 2013/09/10) */

Our last and final response has been given. We regret that this customer was displeased with his rental for whatever reason, and take umberage at his suggestion that our business is run in an unethical manner. It is certainly his right to take his business elsewhere if he disagrees with store policy.

Review: I rented a 20x40 foot do-it-yourself tent for my wedding reception from Taylor rental to protect the guests, tables, chairs, decorations and the like from inclement weather. The tent was set up on Friday May 24 2013, that night we received a rainstorm, when I arrived early Saturday morning to finish setup for the reception that afternoon, everything under the tent was soaked, not damp, soaked. I was forced to find a hall somewhere else the morning of my wedding and beg family to help set up the hall, my wife/ bride to be was in hysterics because of the ruined reception. We pulled through the day, and on Sunday went to pick up the tables and chairs to return them, I inspected the canopy of the tent and found that it was full of hundreds of holes, where sunlight could come through, and also water. Taylor Rental had told me that they did not want me to return a wet tent, and so I left with my bride for our honeymoon, with instructions for family on taking the tent down, and returning it. Upon the return the holes were pointed out to the owners, I have picture evidence, each hole received a piece of duct tape next to it, and they refused to return my 60 dollar deposit because as they said, they couldnt rent the tent out that weekend. I would hope not with that many holes in it. They also refused to return any money whatsoever for their equipment being faulty. My wedding reception was ruined, and I was forced to pay for an additional indoor space because there tent leaked so badly.

Product_Or_Service: 20x40 DIY Tent

Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Refund

I wish to have my 60 dollar deposit refunded in addition to the cost of the hall that I was forced to pay because of their faulty equipment. The hall was at the Log House Restaurant in Barkhamsted Ct, and cost a further 100 dollars; an amount that we paid only because the tent from Taylor rental was in no way what could be considered rentable condition and ruined our outdoor wedding reception.

I have sent my response via email to [redacted]@ct.Revdex.com.org, I did this because this form does not have the ability to attach pictures or pdf documents to it. I am sorry if this causes any inconveniences, I did put the case number in the subject line and the case number and reference number in the body of the email, it should have two documents that are attached, a word document, and a pdf, the word file is my response and the pdf has supporting imaging. again, I am sorry if this causes any inconveniences.
