Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because:
Testing the car without a good battery should not matter, this is a mechanic shop and they should be able to testI never said my car had been sitting for months, it was a couple weeks
The parts that were changed never resolved the problemWith all the parts replaced each time I was told the issue was fixed and it wasn't, if it had been fixed I should have never had to take it back to him.
My car has a brand new battery in it
I never took it to another mechanic, it was a family aquaintance and a friend of the shop that referred me to go there.
My car is still having the same issues and I am not driving it, taking it to *** and putting it on a diagnostic machine says it may be a cam shaft sensorAlso, noticed when trying to diagnose the car that the fuse box was never bolted back in corrrectly and that the fuel pump is wired straight to the batterytherefore the car still needs to be fixed
SoI am still asking for compensation for the non repair of my carI feel it only fair since I need to find another mechanic to take it to so it can be fixed correctly.Sincerely,*** ***

Since the customer states that a new battery was installed, I recommend to bring the vehicle to the shop so I can find and correct the issue. If that is not possible for her then there is nothing further that can be done.
As I said previously, the parts that were replace NEEDED to be replaced. Therefore I will not authorize any refunds.
Sincerely,
Michael

To Whom it may concern,
In regaurds to complaint ID [redacted]:
Upon arrival of customer's 2000 Nissan Pathfinder, the customer stated that the vehicle was parked for several months. She also stated that she previosly...

had another mechanic attemp to diagnos the no start issue. During my diagnostics, the battery was drained and needed to be recharged. After charging the battery, I found a very weak spark, excesivly worn spark plugs, and spark plug wires had excesively higher resistance values than the manufacture's specification. I informed the customer of what I found and informed her that replacing these parts may not fix the issue, but they do need to be addressed. She then gave me the approval to replace the spark plugs and the spark plug wires. After replacement, the vehicle started and was running smooth. I called customer and told her that her vehicle was now running but all issues still may not be resolved. When customer picked up her vehicle, I showed her the spark plugs and wires I removed from the vehicle. I also showed her what a spark plug should look like, and she agreed that replacing was a good Idea.
Two days later she calls me crying, saying that her car won't start. I told her to have it towed back to me. Again, I found the battery needed to be recharged. After charging the battery for aproximatly 20 minutes the vehicle started. This time I found that the coil had a small fracture causing it to arc which. I also checked the battery with a hydometer and load test. Both tests failed. I told the customer what I found and she said to replace the entire distributor assembly only. She did not think the battery could cause these issues. She paid for the distributor repair and took her car.

She calls me about a week later, stating that her car doesn't start. I went to her house installed jumper cables to her vehicle's battery from my vehicle's battery. After 5 minutes her vehicle started. I told her she needs a new battery. I told her that there could be other issues but I cannot test properly with out a good battery. She then brought it back to the shop the next day. At the shop, I installed a known good battery for testing purposes. I found this time that it appeared that the fuel pump would lose power accasionaly. I did find that the fuel pump was not losing power, but the fuel pump relay was losing the ground. I took the liberty of rewiring the fuel pump relay's ground circiut. While a known good battery was installed there were no issues to be found. I reinstalled the original battery and called the customer and informed her what I found and what repairs I did. I did not charge her for these repairs.
Her husband calls me stating the car won't start. I tell him to allow a set of jumper cables from another running vehicle charge the battery. Later that night he calls back and I agree to meet them at the shop. I loaned to them a spare battery that has tested good. This battery, though, is rated too small for a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder. I told both her and her husband that the battery will work as long as temperature doesn't drop to freezing. I also performed a battery test in front of her husband and he saw the failed results of the battery that was originally in the Pathfinder.
That night temperature dropped below 32 degrees F, and she called me the next morning. I then went to her house to pick up her vehicle and told her I will need to drive it everyday as if her car was mine. I installed the battery from my truck into the Pathfinder. I had no issues starting the vehicle for a week. I had the vehicle parked for 3 days. When I went to start the vehicle there was a different issue. The engine didn't crank. The starter just clicked.
The customer sent her son to the shop to aquire any information on the Pathfinder. Her son claims to also me a mechanic, so I told him everything that I did to the vehicle and what is happening as of that time. He then went to the vehicle. He told me that when he tried to start the vehicle there was smoke coming off of the battery cable and the vehicle did not start. Next day I found no signs of any burned or smoking wires. what I did find was a bad connection at the positive post of the battery. I removed the worn terminal clamp, installed a temorary terminal clamp, and the vehicle started. I removed my battery, reinstalled the original battery, and called the customer to come pick up the vehicle. I told her again that she needs a battery.
Her son came to pick up the vehicle and could not start it. I told him to put a known good battery into the Pathfinder and it will start. He told me that another battery started the vehicle.
The parts that were installed onto this 2000 Nissan Patherfinder NEEDED to be replaced as they were worn out and unable to perform as they were intended to perform. There has also been other repairs to this vehicle where the customer was not charged.
Sincerly,
Michael
