Marshall Mint, Inc. Reviews (1)

I had a written cash receipt & guaranteed an appraisal by a gemologist, Instead, they altered the contract, raised the price, & refused my Appraisal.I was very disappointed with [redacted] of Marshall Mint, Inc., because I had personally been given a verbal price, along with a written receipt price, for the purchase price of my gold diamond ring, which was not honored. I was also told by [redacted] my gold diamond ring would come with an appraisal by a gemologist, which I did not get either. The diamond authenticity, value, & grading could not be verified as promised by a gemologist's appraisal. Instead, [redacted], gave me a letter from someone who was a friend and told me they had read books on grading diamonds, so that their letter should be just as good. I was also promised by [redacted] I would not be charged sales tax, in Ca., however, [redacted] altered the contract price on the receipt, adding over $418.00 to the purchase price, without telling me she altered the contract price.I showed [redacted] the original unaltered receipt to get the correct price, but I was told [redacted] told her to alter my receipt after I left the store, and [redacted] refused to fix the price because [redacted] was the Boss and [redacted] would be fired. [redacted] also said [redacted] hung up on her when she called [redacted] about that adjustment correction.Overall, I was very disappointed with my experience at Marshall Mint, Inc., and I believe that their practices were very deceptive and intentionally unethical as they intentionally altered my receipt, changed the price, & refused to provide the services promised, after our written and verbal agreement. I was also not given any proof of authenticity for the product they were stating as marked and advertised in their store, and refused to give me the gemologist appraisal as promised, to prove their diamond was as authentic as they advertised.Desired SettlementTo Stop them from cheating other customers and get the price corrected as agreed.Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted], MgrContact Phone: 775-847-0777Contact Email: [redacted] came to our shop on November 14, 2014, and was interest in one of our estate rings, for $7,205.00. [redacted] offered $6,000 which I told the sales personnel I would accept that offer, however, she did not want to pay the sales tax. I told my sales personnel that I would have to discount the ring an additional $456.00 because the Marshall Mint will have to pay the sales tax and I cannot accept the offer. [redacted] came back later the same day and offered cash if I could give her more of a discount; I said I will take an additional 3% off because this is the credit card fee. She still did not want to pay the sales tax and asked if I could mail an empty box so she could wear the ring out the door. I told her I do not do business this way, it is not legal and I was not going to jeopardize my business license. Finally I told her I will drop the price to $5,500 and she would pay the sales tax. [redacted] agreed to come back early Monday morning to purchase the ring with cash. Before she left she ask if I had additional information on the ring,...I did not, however, the gentlemen who purchases most of my estate jewelry,(since 1998), is very knowledgeable and could write some information about the clarity and color of the diamond, however, "IT WOULD NOT BE AN APPRAISAL". [redacted] said that's fine if he can write something down for her, which I did and typed it on the Marshall Mint's letter head.I have two of my sales personnel and her finance that will verify my statements. [redacted] is unfortunately, not satisfied with paying sales tax which I consider tax evasion. The Marshall Mint has been in business for almost 23 years and we have never offered an appraisal from a gemologist, however, some of our estate pieces do come with an appraisal, however, this ring did not.I feel myself and my sales personnel did all we could to make [redacted] a happy customer, which, I feel awful that we were not successful. [redacted] and [redacted] even stayed 1 1/12 hours overtime to accommodate with [redacted]'s additional requests.Lastly, the Marshall Mint, Inc. has been in business since 1992, at 96 North C Street, Virginia City, Nevada and has never had a complaint and we pride ourselves with customer service, which is why we have a great following of customers that has made our business grow and successful , therefore being generous to our community. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)Marshall Mint and [redacted] have been very dishonest throughout this entire transaction and have now tried to deceive the Revdex.com as well with their incorrect statements. My Finace' and I have been very disappointed with the Marshall Mint's actions.First off, the facts are very clear in that [redacted] has numerous different prices for all her merchandise items, that [redacted] and her employee's, sell from the Marshall Mint. [redacted] gives different price quotes for each item, she sells to each customer in her store. The price depends on how much more money [redacted], and her employee's think, they can over-charge each customer, from the already advertised and actual discounted sale price online. For example: [redacted] told me the price of the gold ring I liked and came in to get was currently $7205.00. I knew [redacted] was dishonestly lying to me as the actual sale price of the same ring I liked was only $5764.00 online as advertised. I offered [redacted] $6000.00 on a credit card since that would be a fair price due to the credit card fee and sales tax.[redacted] told me she wanted CASH only. [redacted] said she would give me the ring 'out the door' for $5500.00. I was concerned with walking around with cash and asked if I could pay with a debit card or cashier's check and [redacted] told me she would not take credit cards or a cashier's check for that amount, only cash, nothing else. No refunds either she said. This is when I became suspicious and asked about verifying the advertised information on the ring, for it's authenticity, and asked if [redacted] could provide an appraisal by a gemologist. [redacted] clearly said she would give me an appraisal by a gemologist at the time I bought the ring, as she works with a gemologist. He buys all her estate pieces [redacted] said. [redacted] did not provide an appraisal by a gemologist, ever. I would never buy a ring without a certificate by a LAB or a gemologist's appraisal verifying the gem is real.INFORMATION & FACTS:1. [redacted] lied to the Revdex.com by saying I came in numerous times asking for discounts and didn't want to pay taxes. The truth is I knew her sale price already and I agreed on a price "out the door'. [redacted] has the business not me and she is responsible for all due taxes to the state, when she gives an Out the Door price. Cutomer's only care about the "OUT THE DOOR PRICE", that's it! Taxes are included always and there is no later date shipping either as she tried to do!2. [redacted] knows that the 'out the door price' covers everything and it is her responsibility to take care of her taxes, not her customer's.3.It is very disappointing to see [redacted] try to blame her customer's for her actions and her questionable business practices.4.The other fact is that [redacted] Intentionally tried to deceive me, by trying to charge me almost $1400.00 more for the sale ring.5. [redacted], knowing that the same item in her store is clearly marked a thousand dollars less, and is currently advertised on sale online for $5764.00, still tried to get me to pay over $6000.00 for the ring, which is hundreds more than the sales price. I feel [redacted] has been doing this to her customers for over 23 years.6.I also caught [redacted] instructing her employees to add more charges to the sales bill, by saying it was sales tax, after I had left the store and agreed with [redacted] to a price in writing that already included the tax and everything out the door.. 7. I corrected the employee's, [redacted] and [redacted], when I saw the altered receipt by the Marshall Mint, and told them I had a receipt for the 'out the door price' of $5500.00 for everything, including sales tax, so I could walk out the door and wouldn't have to ship a $5500.00 ring and risk it getting lost. It was clearly written on my "UNALTERED RECEIPT" the price including the tax. I showed the receipt over and over again to both employees and they didn't care and still charged me more money. 8. [redacted] said she something about shipping a box to my house. I told her I didn't want to have a box shipped to me. I told her I would pick up my ring in person because I didn't trust it being shipped and the price was out the door.9.I tried to resolve the discrepancy with the Marshall Mint and told [redacted] and her employees that I had a receipt for the full cash price & taxes included, as agreed, which was the price 'out the door', in the amount of $5500.00. 10. I showed both of her employee's, my unaltered ORIGINAL receipt and they both told me that they were aware the receipt was altered by [redacted], but they were told by [redacted], after I left the store, to charge me more money for the ring, and specify taxes. This was unacceptable. Both myself and my Fiance were very disappointed by the actions of the Marshall Mint and their employee's. The fact that [redacted] refused any type of credit, debit, or cashier's check for my transaction was also not an acceptable or very honest business practice.
