Martin Moving & Storage Reviews (10)

No one likes to move but Martin Movers made our experience much less painful. Whether it was a last minute plea for more boxes or just advice, they were always responsive. The actual movers were professional and courteous. We hope never to move again but if we do, we know who we will call.

This company exceeded my expectations. We needed to store our belongings while the floors were getting refinished in our new house. They stored everything for a week and then brought everything in without scratching anything. They were even understanding when I asked them to remove a couch from the basement that they just put down there because it didn't fit well in the room. I would recommend them to anyone. They were fast, courteous, and professional.

Last August of 2014 I hired Martin Movers to help us move from our fairly large house of 35 years to a condo. They had been highly recommended to me by two close friends who had used them, and I in turn was quite pleased with their services as well. The move went smoothly, and their team worked efficiently with care given to my pieces of furniture. Also, they were pleasant and reasonably priced. This is a family business with a good reputation, and deservedly so.

I've used Martin Movers twice and I highly recommend them. I had problems with the timing of my move related to builder's schedule. Martin Mover's were great keeping in touch, and being flexible, which greatly reduced my stress level. They were professional, on time, and careful.

Martin Moving and Storage hired a known felon, who robbed me during a move. Phil M[redacted] was rude and dismissive when questioned about the possibility that one of his employees stole my items. He said "older folks sometimes misplace their valuables". It wasn't until vigilant police work identified one of his employees as having sold my jewelry that he acknowledged he had hired him back after multiple arrests. Although it was only one employee caught, I have seen evidence that points to other employees stealing from customers. I'm sure Phil M[redacted] wouldn't have given Santos R[redacted] access to HIS family treasures, but had no concerns with giving him access to mine. I just saw a [redacted] post from a current customer of [redacted] whose items went missing after a move. Clearly things have not changed.

Review: I contracted with Martin Moving and Storage to move my furniture and household contents from ** to **. There were several issues with the move. First, they claimed they couldn't move all of my things on the first trip because they were overweight. Even though I had a binding estimate not to exceed, they tried to charge me more to ship the rest of my items. This was resolved with a phone call with the owner.

The second issue was with an employee (David). When the truck arrived in **, David was belligerent and was cursing and swearing. My new neighbors were appalled and they complained to me. Not a very good first impression in my new neighborhood. David also refused to move things and was very rough in moving items. He was literally throwing boxes down even though they were marked fragile. He carelessly moved wood furniture on dollies with no protection, bouncing the items and causing damage. I had to call the owner during the move to complain. The owner claimed that he would have fired him for this behavior. I don't know if he did or not, but the bottom line is my reputation was ruined with my neighbors. I also have several missing items and I sustained damage to many of my items that were in the roughly handled boxes.

The third issue is with the so called insurance that was sold to me. I was asked to sign a very short form initially prior to the move to secure the insurance. The details of the insurance are actually on the back of the delivery forms and there was no attempt to review them prior to signing. I was rushed into signing them so that the men could leave. It was never made clear that electronics weren't covered and missing items weren't covered prior to the move. Also, if no visible damage, the item isn't covered and if previous damage was noted, any new damage was not covered. The insurance was $500 per truck ($1000) with a $500 deductible. It doesn’t seem this insurance is covering much.

The fourth issue is the inventory stickers. The instructions to the moving crew was changed to putting inventory stickers on all of the items to only putting inventory stickers on certain items. Further, some of the stickers had fallen off prior to the move (they were in my driveway and on my stairways). It was very difficult to reconcile when it was time to file an insurance claim.

The fifth and final issue is I paid a $500 deposit which didn’t seem to be factored in to my payment.Desired Settlement: I want:

1) to be reimbursed for my $500 deposit

2) to be reimbursed for the missing items and the damaged items $2,500
