Good Morning *** ***, I’d like to apologize for your experience at one of our stores and to resolve the issue for you ASAPAfter reading the description of your complaint, I think I have an idea of what the confusion isMany of our products are priced so that they end up on a
round dollar value after tax, because traditionally much of our business was cash based and customers would prefer to hand over $for a pack of gum, rather than dealing with loose changeOur regular packs of gum are priced at $plus tax, which in NY works out to $The confusion seems to be stemming from the current NY tax rate of 8.875%When two packs of gum are purchased, then the tax rate rounds up to $4.01. Many of our cashiers, knowing that gum is $after tax, will say $to the customers when they see that they have packsWhen the customer pays with cash, the penny is ignored, but when the customer pays with credit, then the amount can’t be adjusted and $is charged to the cardThis is definitely not the correct procedure, as our cashiers should always ask the customer for the correct totalWe will be reiterating the correct procedures with all of our ** locations, in order to avoid any confusion in the futureMost of our stores are located in office buildings, so our customer base is largely made up of repeat customers, and we value that relationship greatly.
