Dear Representative Revdex.com               To whom this may concern I [redacted] Owner of Martinez Pete Roofing am writting this letter in regards to the complain Revdex.com received on 06/05/2015 from the customer [redacted] at [redacted].  We  did a roofing job at the address mentioned in 2013 as you can see she provided a copy of the proposal but you can't hardly see the information on the paper.  We would be glad to provide a better copy if needed.  We did a section of the roof and repaired around the chemneys.  We only gave her a 3 year warranty against leaks on the large section.  The work we did around the chemneys were considered repairs and we do not provide a warranty on repairs.  We all agreed to stick by the contract since the day she signed the proposal.  We mentioned to her that the entire roof needed to be re roofed, but she said she did not have the funds to repair the entire roof.  We noticed the the decking on the roof was 3/8 decking/sheeting and all roofs are supposed to be done with atleast 7/16 decking /sheeting.  Knowing this we knew that the nails wouldn't hold for a long term, some nails would start coming out eventually.  The way Martinez Roofing would have done the job by removing the entire roof, re-decking the roof, re-flashing the chemneys, re-installing  the stucco on chemney, and put new shingles back on.  This would have assured us and the owner that the roof would not have any problems as far as leaks.  As far as the leak that she mentioned on the bedroom ceiling it had been leaking prior to us doing the job.  When she called us to give her an estimate she mentioned that she was having two big leaks, one being located in her bedroom by the chemney and the other located by a valley between the pitch roof/shingle roof and flat roof/roll roofing.  We thought that the leak in her bedroom was coming from around the chemney so we mentioned the repair to her, since she did not have enough funds to repair the entire roof.  Even after we did the repair by the chemney in the bedroom the roof continued to leak, and she was unsatisfied so she called us and told us that we had to go back and fix it.  We explained to her that it was a repair and that there was no warranty.  We still went back to see what was going on with the roof and we found out that the leak was not coming from around the chemney, the water was coming in from the roof about 6 feet higher than where we did the repair.  We removed an entire section ( about 100 sq ft)  right above the chemney in attempts to stop the leak.  She told us that we had stopped the leak and was left at that.               In conclusion the ceiling in her bedroom was already damaged prior to us doing the roof.  All atempts to stop the leak was to our expense and she did not have to pay anything extra to fix the problem.  We told her that the entire roof needed to be fix and again there was no funds available.  We do not feel that we should pay for the damage that was done before we even touched the roof.  We feel like she is trying to get her ceiling fixed at our expense by blaming us for the damage.  When she contacted us she said that there was no more leaks but water was standing by the front area on the flat roof.  There is a drain but it is to high for all the water to be drained from the roof.  At this time that was the problem she had with the job we did,  But we did not mentioned that we were going to change the structure of the bulding we were just supposed to put a new roof on that section, it is also not mentioned anywhere in the contract.  We figure is about 1/2 inch of water standing on the roof everytime it rains but there was no leak and again she did not mentioned any leaks.   She has a friend that is supposed to be a general contractor and he is always climing up on the roof  telling her that there are things wrong with the roof, any damages he may have caused by climing the roof are not covered by our warranty and the roof may not be how we left it when we finished the job.  Again we feel like we are not responsible at this point,  the standing water was a structure issue which we did not agree to fix or change anything about the structure on the contract.   I will provide you with a drawn diagram specifying the section of the roof we fixed and the repairs we did, also part of the roof that we did not touch.   If you would send out a roof inspector he would easily spot the new and old roof and also the repairs.  Again we do not know how the roof looks now since her contractor friend has been going on the roof.  At this point we would not want to work with her again even if she wanted us to do the entire roof , we feel we went above and beyond to help her and try to fix her roof was she was not satisfied.      Note: The stucco around the chemney was also broken before we did the repair and she tried      to tell us that we broke the stucco.     Sincerely,     [redacted]

once again I would like to mention that it was a repair done on that side of the roof. we do not warranty repairs unless we do the full section of the roof. Many times it is the flashing on the chimney that causes the problem. There was no reason for us to touch that part of the roof unless there was a leak. which owner said she had one and see if we can fix it that is why we did repair. other wise we would not have touched that part of the roof and would have only focused on the half that we did.
